I was actually riding a parker on this ride. My bike was in the shop, and JF from Gord's picked a brand new parker III off the showroom floor for me to ride while mine was being worked on.
The parker felt quite heavy in comparison and wasn't the easiest thing to pedal. It might not have helped that some things weren't set up ideally for me. The frame size was the same as my XAM-1, but the cockpit felt incredibly short. On top of that the handlebars were significantly wider than the ones i'm used to. In general, I guess if i wasn't in as awkward a riding position as i was, it would have been much more enjoyable.
Are you looking at picking up a used one? or a new one?
I'm thinking of picking up a new one, but from last years stock, maybe even from 2008 or 2009. I cant really afford a brand new one plus they didn't make one this year. I haven't test riden one yet, but I do like a wider handlebar so maybe it wont be as bad for me. How is the xam for freeride stuff? I noticed you have a Bottlerocket. Which is what I would really like but they are way to much, where did you get yours from and how much did you get it for?
i picked up my bottlerocket for dirt cheap locally (kijiji) and i'm fixing it up, possibly to sell it. When i bought it, the BB was trashed and some other things needed work, so I never really got to ride it before the winter.
I'm not sure if its still there, but the bike I was actually riding in that video (parker III) was a demo at Gord's the last time i was in there. In the fall i think it was marked down to something crazy cheap for the complete bike in mint condition... i think only me and another guy rode it, and i babied it.
Head down to the donald location and talk to JT or JF about it, they'll hook you up.
O that sounds like a good deal, I live quite a ways outside of winnipeg so I don't think I'll be going in anytime soon. Do they have an email address? And what year was that Parker?
That is cool, close to Carberry there are some pretty nice trails, I know Epinette Creek Trail is a pretty decent ride it takes a couple hours anyway. There are cabins to stop at, and if you do some off trail riding you can find some pretty intense technical lines, but then you have to walk back up haha. I got a reply for JF, He said it's an 09 and they want around 1500, plus it only has a Marz DJ fork on it, not sure which one.
yeah i've done epinette before and its really not my cup of tea! haha
and yeah, i forgot what fork was on it, but that jogged my memory... its a DJ3 and its an air sprung one, so its easy to adjust. it actually rode quite nice.
Ha Ha I actually enjoy the trail quite a bit. I have been talking to the Jamis dealer In portage about some bikes so we'll see, I'll only get one if I can sell my bike.
