Why yes, that is Jay Hoots building a pump track and 3 new DJ lines across from the bus loops and Cornerstone building at UniverCity.

Now, before heading down, you can warm up on the pump track, designed for cool transfer options, and then move the the tabletopped DJ's. Grab a drink at Nesters, then head down the mountain for a lap or 3.

Should be done in about 3 weeks. Please DO NOT use the facility at ANYTIME during it's construction. Please respect the work and Jay's equipment.

More Details:

The facility will be a small community-based facility that will include a pump track with a variety of line options and transfers and 3 dirt jump lines - small to large; all table-topped.

The facility will be located directly across from the Cornerstone building and central SFU bus loop where folks have probably stared at a pile of dirt for several years. This future development site is currently home to the "sales centres" for residential home developers at UniverCity and will act in this capacity for several more years. The north portion of this site has been a dirt stockpile.

It has been decided that a better use of this land, until such time as the site is developed as the final mixed-use building at UniverCity, is as a community amenity. As such, over the next 3 weeks, riders and the community can watch Jay Hoots work his magic in the dirt to create a new place to play for the next several years.

Ideally over this time, we will see the asset of such a facility and a permanent home of a similar facility can be found somewhere on the mountain. Until that time, this will be a great resource for riders and families on Burnaby Mountain.

Throw Jay a high 5 if you're passing by, but PLEASE DO NOT RIDE ON THE SITE UNTIL THE WORK IS COMPLETE.

Not sure what you mean by this.

Most modern design for tabletop DJ lines will accommodate a variety of bikes. The basis for any design is a classic DJ hardtail re: wheelbase and angles. This is the "test bike". If a DJ is built well for a DJ bike or even Slopestyle bike, then it will work for BMX or FS bikes if the pilot is skilled enough. These kind of facilities are not really designed around a big DH bike, but that's not really Burnaby Mtn either. All trails ride as fast, or faster on a shorter travel AM bike.

As for the pump track, they will always work better and faster with a hardtail or DJ bike, but again, under the right pilot, an FS bike can be used and lots of skills can be practiced and learned. The more you can pump any bike, the better rider you will be and the better workout you will get.

This facility is not designed to be "HUGE". It is a community park for UniverCity and is open for all to ride. There will be small (think rollers), medium, and large DJ lines with large being like the large line in the 3-pack at Mountain Air, but not the huge DH line that runs from the top of the park.

Pump tracks are never really "hard" or "huge", but they are as challenging as you make them out to be. Can you really ride it without pedalling? How many laps? How fast? Are you finding transfer lines? Can you run it both ways? So much to do on a pump track. They aren't meant to be huge, but are meant to be hugely challenging for advanced riders and simply easy for beginners.

That said, if there are any non-authorised alterations or digging on this facility, it will be closed permanently immediately. This is a condition of the insurance and liability and this is done voluntarily and entirely at the expense of the master developer for the community until such time as that parcel of land gets developed. Basically, a gift to the community, rather than just a vacant pile of dirt. Treat it with respect, enjoy it, don't dig or alter, and keep it clean, and this resource will be there for a few years.

I think the official opening is tomorrow but ever thing is rideable. My friends said that the buildears had allowed people to ride it before the opening because it is finished

Great timing on my part to sprain my hand just before opening.

That's awesome! Now I can just walk to a dirt jump park in 10 mins. instead of driving to Barnet Hwy.
