This past weekend at Mont Sainte Anne, e.thirteen rider Sam Hill captured the win and the leaders jersey in the points race for the world title, while on the other side of the world, e.thirteen rider Paul Basagoitia collected 25,000 euros for his second place overall finish in the Qashqai Urban Challenge series.
After Sam Hills now-legendary race run in Champery, it was only a matter of time before he turned in a winning run, and Mont Sainte Anne proved to be the place. Hill qualified second with a time of 4:33.53 and was able to take four seconds off of his time to finish two seconds ahead of Greg Minnaar and top qualifier Steve Peat for the win.
Sam's first place finish in Mont Sainte Anne was also enough to give him the leaders jersey for the overall World Cup points race. Sam joins Iron Horse/Monster/Mad Catz teammate Sabrina Jonnier as they both hold the leaders jerseys in their respective categories. Fellow Iron Horse rider Duncan Riffle also made a podium appearance at the top spot in Deer Valley the previous weekend.
Sabrina continues to dominate the womens world cup downhill scene, with the top qualifying run (over six seconds faster than the rest of the field), followed by the winning race run, which was two seconds faster than the rest of the pro womens class.
e.thirteen riders also made podium appearances in 4X, with Jill Kintner and Mio Suemasa finishing third and fourth in the womens race. Scott Beaumont and Kamil Tatarkovic podiumed for the men, in second and fourth place, respectively.
The Qashqai Urban Challenge series wrapped up in Paris last weekend, with e.thirteen riders rounding out both the Big Air podium as well as the overall podium. Paul Basagoitia, Kyle Strait, Ben Boyko, Andreu Lacondeguy, Cameron McCaul and Darren Pokoj all rode their e.thirteen chain retention systems to podium finishes throughout the entire urban freeride tour.
McCaul was on fire at the Big Air in Paris, finishing second to overall tour winner Darren Berrecloth. McCaul was throwing groundbreaking tricks like barspin to no-foot can. McCaul, Kyle Strait and Paul Basagoitia all put their e.thirteen systems to the test by spinning it around and upside down on their way to the finals.
At the end of the day, McCaul was awarded second place in the Big Air contest, with Paul Basagoitia taking second place overall for the Qashqai Urban Challenge. Paul was joined on the podium by e.thirteen riders Ben Boyko (4th) and Andreu Lacondeguy (5th).
