Maxxis Gravity Team on Iron Horse in 2008

Dec 22, 2007

Iron Horse Bicycle Company announces today that they will be the official frame supplier of the Maxxis Tires Gravity Team for the 2008 race season. Maxxis team riders will use the dw-link equipped Iron Horse Sunday for downhill events and MkIII model frames for mountain cross races.

The Iron Horse Sunday is one of the most sought-after mountain bikes in the world. With a pedigree that includes victories in World Championship, World Cup Series Overall, World Cup, National Championship, and US Open competitions, the Sunday has become the bike-of-choice for the sport’s best athletes and discerning riders.

The 2008 Maxxis Team gravity roster is stacked with talent. Joining Maxxis for the 2008 campaign is defending back-to-back World Champion and 2007 World Cup Series Champion Sabrina Jonnier. Luke Strobel, the top American on the World Cup circuit, and 2006 Junior World Champion Cameron Cole both continue with the program for 2008. Team Maxxis will compete the UCI World Cup circuit, the NMBS series events, and other selected top-tier events throughout the world.

Maxxis and Iron Horse have a long history of working together. Maxxis has been a tire sponsor of Iron Horse teams and riders and Iron Horse has used Maxxis tires as original equipment specification for the past 10 years.

Maxxis Tires Bicycle Manager Christopher Warrick comments:
“We’re excited to have Iron Horse supporting the gravity side of the team this year. It’s obvious their bikes are fast, as they’ve delivered back-to-back world championships for both men and women. A great bike, like the Iron Horse Sunday, will make a great rider even better.” Christopher went on to say, “I can’t wait to get the season started. We’ve put together a great team of riders and sponsors and feel as though the quality of the team’s equipment will work to our advantage.”

Iron Horse Marketing Manager Todd Seplavy commented:
“We are very pleased to be partnering with Team Maxxis for the upcoming season as their official frame sponsor. Iron Horse and Maxxis have had a strong relationship for the past decade. This is an extension of our partnership and an opportunity to expand the Iron Horse brand out to even more people and more events.”

Sean Heimdal of the World Championship Monster Energy/Iron Horse team added:
“Maxxis has a great reputation for putting together excellent race programs and supporting the best riders in the sport. We are looking forward to working with the Maxxis team in our shared goal of winning races and championships.”

It sucks that IronHorse bikes are only available through SportChek here in Canada. It just doesn't make any sense???? The bike mechanical are terrible at SportChek, and they pull all the bikes from the floor in the fall for ski season. They might as well sell their bikes at Walmart. Frown

Lol, Walmart probably has better service that SportChek. Which goes to show how bad SportChek's service really is. I don't know about any one else, but I would easily drive all the way across town for good service. A good bike shop with a good mechanic and service is worth the drive any time. If you want something cheap go to the Walmart/SportChek's. I think selling IronHorse bikes through a place with bad service is a shame. But that is just my opinion, lol.

The Sudays are great DH bikes, but the MKIII for 4X; I don't know. I think a modded Azure would be a better choice than the MKIII.

Unfortunately here in Calgary, just SportChek sells IronHorse. The funny part is, if you look at a bike at SportChek, they can't even get the cables routed right. I picked up a Warrior last summer for my girlfriend and I had to redo everything on the bike. Everything was a mess, cables messed up, brakes rubbing, front and back derailleurs not set right. I was not impressed at all. They might as well sell the bikes as an unassembled kit, yikes!!

Deep cove sells them, but to do it they had to buy around 80,000$ worth to get them. Most shops don't have that kind of money. Ironhorse makes sweet bikes but the company sold it's sole.

You can buy a Sunday from Sport Chek, cheaper than you would be able to buy them at any other shop that would carry them (I know Cove and one shop I think in Eastern Canada carries them), we carry the rights of IronHorse in Canada, just a part of a buying and licensing agreement. I'm a tech, and I'll admit that we're not made to support such a bike (hence why you can't buy one in store, and we know it). If you want one, just go to a bigger Sport Chek (dirt shop or if you're in Calgary, any bigger location), and you can ask to special order one in the early spring time (any Sunday except for the World Cup, those are made to order only) as long as IronHorse has one in stock. Who cares aboot the techs, you can just buy it cheap and get it serviced at your favorite LBS. We're trained as jack of all trades, not masters of one or another (unless one shop has an experienced bike tech).

Very true, but don't most people like to shop around and test drive a bike before you buy it? Sorry but I would like to ride before I buy when I am about to spend that kind of money. Frown Plus service is a huge part of anything you buy. Once again just my preference and how I like to do things.

i really do not like iron horse. there bikes are sellouts. same with dyno, mongoose, ccm, k2(or something like that). when i was a kid a ccm was the king of department store bikes. now they have sold out beyond selling out. they switched from canadian tire to walmart (the king of crap). not even a canadian tire bike anymore. what is the world coming to?

i was just thinking and i thought of two other sell out companies. wtb and cane creek. thats right two huge names in cycling. i saw a cane creek headset on a supercycle (it was my friends and can guarantee he wouldn't upgrade) and wtb saddle on a dyno in zellers.

you guys do realize that these companys are in buisness to make money ehh.
in business if a company is willing to give you money for product (like a seat or headset) you give it to them, if trek sells 100 bikes with a canecreek headset then ceanecreek has that much cash to put into r&d for better products for there high end stuff. If department store company A has 100000 bikes in comparison for CC to seall headsets for, then they have that much more cash to put towards R&D

i think the sachem 6.0 would make a sweet 4x bike but i would probably change the stock shock to a fox float!

Bottom line, I would love to see IronHorse sell their higher end bikes through a good bike shop. And keep the lower end bikes at the WalMart's and SportChek's of the world. If this brings in huge cash for R&D, then the high end bikes will get even better.

But one thing does not make any sense. Why are a lot of the IronHorse bikes sold at SportChek not even listed on their website??? The bike I picked up for the girlfriend was a "Warrior 2.3" which isn't listed on the IronHorse web site. So are they not already building special lower end bikes for sale just at SportChek? It looks like they are to me. And having to special order in a higher end bike is nuts.

Have you noticed the different models listed on their web site for the new 2008 bikes. In the USA they list only the Sunday, 7 Point, 6 Point, MKIII and the Azure models. On their International site have six more models to choose from. It also appears that they have dropped their road bikes for 2008. The Victory and Triumph road bikes are gone. Is the company down sizing perhaps????

Some of the bikes arent on the website because only a few sportcheks around canada well carry them depending on where they are located and the size of the store. And its true that alot of the bikes are pourly assembled from improper training in most of the techs but not all of them are like that. i work at the sport chek in kelowna and the tech we have at are shop knows more than any tech at gericks, cyclepath, or kelowna cycle garrunteed. it all depends on where you go. next seeason we may be getting a sunday in store so people can try the bike because i agree that buying a 4000 bike from a picture and spec list is retarded. things dont happen overnight though and the larger sportcheks have better far better techs and bikes than they used allthough there is still alot to be done.

I agree with both of you. There is no way I will lay out the bug cash for a that I can't ride first. I think you would see a lot more Iron Horse bikes out there if they dropped SportChek, as every few of their stores have a great bike mechanic like in Kelowna. Which is to bad. Plus I hate any bike shop that swaps out the bikes when ski season starts. What do they do? fire the mechanic for ski season/ or make the poor guy install bindings when it's snows, yikes!!!

Oh an one other word of advise. Here in Calgary there is a bike shop called "The Bike Shop". Please do yourself a favor and avoid that place like the plague. There service and staff sucks majorly. Just have a peak at their review here and you will see why. http://bikeshops.mtbr.com/cat/around-the-world/canada/canada-alberta/bikeshop/PRD_401223_6224crx.aspx
