FireEye 2010 - New Frames

by Jason Mz
Dec 1, 2009

FireEye has made a lot of changes this year to the frames and components to create a brand new generation of products. The biggest difference to the frames is the use of a 4130 cromoly hydro-formed downtube. You heard that right, hydro-formed cromoly tubeset. Up until now, almost all hydro-forming has been exclusively with aluminum frames. But this year, FireEye brought that technology to steel and have used it with our Spitfire, Bloodshot, and Shortfuse 380 models.

More details and pics inside,

This hydro-forming allows an overall lighter, more flickable frame while still providing the excellent strength that FireEye are known for. It also cleans up the appearance and gives the bikes some nice curves. All horizontal hardtails use the patented ASP (Axle Stabilization Platform) system as well as time/rider-tested geometry. FireEye has taken steel frames to the next level and hopes that they allow you to take your riding to the next level as well.

There were some suggestions from riders for a more colorful 2010 line up. In the past, FireEye only offered a few choices for frame colors (black, white, and grey). Offerings for 2010 include seven colors for you to choose from: orange, yellow, green, blue, brown, white, and black.

The flame gussets on the spitfire look sick, but will they hold up to some long term abuse? You'd think it wouldn't be as strong as just the typical straight bar..

Rad frames though. Big Grin Anyone know how much they weigh?

would be nice if they made the frames more simple, like detachable lugs and get rid of the v'brake mounts please! apart from that pretty smart bit of equipment Wink

only thing is alot of park riders still use v-brakes so they would almost be closing out a whole market group by doing it, at least the pins unbolt so doesnt look as messy as it would if they were sticking out right?

yehh i guess, maybe we should all get with the times and go with the disc, who knows i just think it makes the frame look crap Blank Stare

its not an issue of being up to date, discs are asy to catch on rails and coping when riding ramps, same reason that bikes like the identiti P45 came with a c-brake and no disc mounts, different styles of riding require different brake setups, fire eye just try to cater for everyone its fair enough

flag maxlange (Dec 1, 2009 at 17:06)
because on the bottom tube near the head tube it is reenforced so the compresion valves on the top would hit it if you barspin or x up
