its kind of pathetic how everyone rips on a bike for keeping a similar form over time. for some reason you all think that there should be drastic frame changes every year. konas ride really well. i have owned bikes from spec, iron horse, banshee, kona, rocky mountain, santa cruz and I think my kona rode as well as anything else.

moral: chill out and go ride
  • 6 1
Indeed, why change something that's already good?

the depend on weather u think the suspention system is actualy any good, sure it works but so does an orange patriot, so if u want a simple bike why get a kona stinky with a stupid dope bar
  • 2 0
Well i don't have a dope bar on mine so i can't comment on that, the rear suspention is good in all conditions, i can't fault it. The only gripe i have is that the bearings are a pain to change, water can work its way down the seat tube into the main pivot and bb, so needs keeping an eye on, but it does make it easy to lube. Other than that, i havn't snapped mine yet and it's a lot of fun to ride. Have you had a bad experience with a Kona or do you just like moaning about them?
  • 3 0
i put the dope stuff onto my stinky (aftermarket), and i love it! (shame on me, apparentlySmile ). now the rear suspension stays fully active while braking, and the thru axle rear dropout is also a big step up for me.

wow the ignorance of some people on here is amazing, for northumberland rider....

nicest looking stinky yet, but my god they are having a laugh with that price, and i was sticking up for kona in another post.
  • 8 1
^^not really, for an extra $500 you get codes, a hammershmidt, and sram.

i'd say its a better deal than 09'

yeh but why should i buy a kona not a norco or specialized, i can give many reasons 1, you see more broken konas than any other bike and unlike with specialized u get no full warranty, not sure weather its completely konas fault but there been alot of snappage pictures about 2, that suspension system has had its day, seriouly it has and the dope bar is a peace of shit gets in the way and is just 1 more thing to go wrong, no other serious bikes companies accept foes use the same system 3, for the price i could get an SX trails 2, same frame Sam hill and brendan are rippin it up on for dual salon and also a proven freeride bike 4, would any serious rider really care about how a bike looks, to me its just looks like kona is tryin to sell to the all the gear no idear kids out there with rich parents
  • 1 2
i completely agree. but im just comparing the '10 to the '09
  • 5 0
 Nah,

1. You there are some out there, quite a lot so for sure you will see more broken ones.
2. Nah, I would always go for floater if I could. I am no pro so I could use this feature. Unlike the separate floater this stays on the bike when you remove the wheel which I find cool (traveling).
3. Yep HS brings the price up to the funny areas. I would not by Spec and the argument that someone is riding something (sposored pro roders) is just ridiculus, sorry m8.
4, Man Kona is going easy on the looks, much more companies are going with funny pains and this stinky looks nice.

Yup, I would not buy stinky. I would prefer SS+DH instead, could be from Kona.
  • 3 4
buddy i dont care about looks and the fact really is kona need to step it up seriouly !
  • 1 0
ascident - wouldn't it be better to simply use a horst link on this type of design instead of complicating things with a full floater? And yes specialized's fsr does have a horst link which makes it a better design on the spot.
  • 2 0
Nah, personally I do not feel the need of FSR. Solid SP would do. I have both. I had occasion to play on Spec bikes as well. Floaterm is simple IMHO.
Anyway, what I need are friggin mountains to ride Wink

 1. You see more broken Kona's because THERE ARE MORE KONAS. I am willing to bet there are more konas out there than companies such as Giant and Trek combined. Thats why you see "so many cracked konas." Personally, I know many many many Kids from Diablo Freeride Park and in fact out of all the frames I see come and go at the bike park, I see Jamis cracking most. I have a friend on his 7th frame just this season. I also know a guy (prolly 215 pounds) on a 04 Kona Stab that still kicks.

2. How could Dope system be bad. Floating Brake= no jack and active suspension.

3. Nobody pays full list price (MSRP) for a bike, If they did, there is a serious problem with that deal..Also SX trails are vastly different style bikes

4. Why not have a sexy bike. Its only another plus to have a hot bike, that looks nice sitting on the back of the truck when you head out for a ride.. sure a lot of kids have stinkys, but I have seen wayyy more "rich kids" on Big Hits. I am sure many people would agree.

Yeah but the suspension is rather outdated.
  • 6 3
Not at all. Single pivot was one of the first designs but it still gets on WC podiums frequently.

 5? almost 10 now.

flag forgotmyloginagain1 (Aug 9, 2009 at 6:00) (Below Threshold)
If by single pivot you mean frames like commencal ? well the back wheel might be attached to the main triangle only with one pivot, but the rest of the linkages are very different, center of gravity is bit lower and it pedals better... not to mention designs like vpp or dw, that work better as well. And it is outdated over last 15 year people invented many better designs.

yeh and kona hasn't even been near a podium or even in the world cup for ages last time i saw a kona was about 3 races ago and the rider had barely even qualified, set aside its more the rider than the bike but serious kona have lost it... back in the day yeh they were awesome but now...
  • 6 1
I'd still take it over and orange.

the only thing id change is the frame.
  • 1 0
 missing the point ^
  • 3 0
wait a minute, they're running hammerschmidt, increasing the clearance around the BB, but the BB and standover are higher this year?
what gives?
  • 1 0
that`s because the fork is a bit longer this year... geometry is the same.
  • 1 0
finally putting a good spec list on there bikes. bout time they use a brake company that actually make brakes that stop you instead of the shit they have been putting on them. hammershmidt is a big plus too. i love mine. i like it. looking good
  • 1 0
Well I hav got a 2005 kona stinky with fox float rear shock n 888 forks with hope pro 2 Evo wheels! Hope bb, headset, stem, tech m4 Evo brakes all in gold finished off with xt groupset with hope bashguard and kona handle bars! Stinky is a great bike Wundt change it 4 anything since day 1 I bought it on the 14 may 2005!
  • 3 0
i agree with bikerr! ive rode plenty of bikes and i dont mind my kona at all, just get over it and ride guys!
  • 5 1
 Good lookin bike!
  • 3 1
the price range is a little over... but compared to last year it should only go up a few hundred at most
  • 3 1
The deluxe is replacing the Air, hence all of the top specs and price.
  • 1 0
I bought mine in 2011 and I still ride it with lot of fun. I changed only the original fork to a 888 Evo Ti II ..... Nice bike for a good price
  • 4 6
Funny how they changed the tires from DH Minions to crap Kendas no wonder it's lighter, they really need to get a new design going the bike looks the same as it did 10 years ago. I am surprised they didn't add the lame magic link to the mix just to add some more new factor to the bike. Kona is so lame it's funny.
  • 1 0
no in 2002 the pivot place or points were smaller. anyway its tolate to see change now!! this is the finle for 2010, lets see in 2011
  • 2 0
But the Stinky must be selling well or they'd change it, right? There are plenty of prospective and repeat stinky buyers out there that aren't caught up in trends and won't risk sacrificing performance and value for a trendy looking frame. It must not be broken or they would fix it.
  • 1 0
they should have put white wheels on that
  • 3 1
 well done kona!!!
  • 1 0
im diggin the full sram with marzocchi
  • 1 0

  • 2 1

  • 1 3
why does it say it has marzocchi 66's but in the photo's it has boxxers? i know thats a dumb*ss question it is probly just for the picture but you never know
  • 1 1
 AHA nvm it says bomber
  • 1 3
last years konas were to flashey besides a couple like the bass and the stab supreme
  • 1 2
