2011 Specialized Demo 8 - Exclusive!

Jul 1, 2010
by Tyler Maine
We chose Silver Star Resort as the venue to showcase this new bike due to do the overload of bad ass corners that unfold before riders as they unload from the Comet 6 Pack Express and descend back towards the mid mountain village. Between those perfectly sculpted corners you’ll find raw natural trail that is looking to get shredded on and that is what we’re here to capture.

Check out Curtis as he walks us through the changes to the all new 2011 Demo:

The 2011 Demo is a whole new beast from its 2010 brother, and we were able to catch up with Jason Chamberlain and Brandon Sloan of Specialized Bicycles to get the full low down on just what all changed and how it will effect us, the end users.

Check out all details and changes below:

-Unlike the 2010 model, you can once again adjust the geos on the 2011 offering. BB height can be raised by 10mm and the head tube angle can be steepened by half a degree by changing a small insert on the rear shock eyelet.

-The frame now uses a "shock extension" or "bearing adapter". The shock is totally stock, but we slide on a Y shaped piece. This allows us to put the shock pivot in a location that was formerly not possible - right next to the tire. This allowed us to tune the leverage ratio the way we wanted. Plus the shock rides on ball bearings, not the Fox DU bushing. Something most all of our bikes do now. Shock Extensions will be available for most popular shocks.

photo

-Head Tube length is now 112mm (was 120 on the 2010 Demo), the shorter head tube accommodates smaller riders and the new style of low, low front ends.

-A new forged, patented head tube process allows us to weld the top and down tube all the way at the ends of the head tube, this gives you the most strength and a very short head tube.

Red is 2010, Black is 2011

2011 Demo 8 Geometry Chart

-Geometry is unchanged from the 2010 model, with simply an additional size added being Extra Small. View Geometry Chart here.

-Seat tube lengths are as follows - Extra Small = 15.5”, Small = 16.0, Medium = 16.5 and Large = 18.0”

-Rear axle is 150x12mm (was 135x10 in the past) and yet you’ll experience better heel clearance on the new 2011 frame due to the hydro-formed stays.

photo

photo

-Most of the tubes are now hydro-formed as this give us more flexibility in the shapes of the tubes and you can add strength or clearance where needed – as seen in the new 150mm wide rear stays.

photo

photo

-Bottom Bracket is 83mm, but uses the new Press Fit Standard (BB30). Expect to see DH crank manufacturers making 83mm BB30 cranks in the near future. They will be lighter and stronger than current offerings. In this first year you’ll find threaded adapters to run standard crank and BB set up until crank manufacturers get caught up on the BB30 set ups.

-Upper link is now 3 pieces – 7075 sides with a magnesium center bridge.

photo

-3/4 of a pound lighter than the 2010 Demo 8 frame

-Out of the box weight for a complete 2011 Demo 8 should be in the 36lb range.

-New frame is slightly more progressive in its spring rate curve over the 2010 model

photo

-Specialized has hidden all the external forging pockets to help eliminate areas in which mud can collect. Typically you’ll see mechanics using Moto Foam or little sponges in all pockets where mud would typically pack up and collect. This is no longer needed on the new frame. Sam and Brendan’s mechanic Jacy stated that at Maribor (the muddiest race ever), that the new Demo shed mud much better than its predecessor.

photo

-All aspects of the new frame have been pushed to be as compact as possible, very narrow and also very low and tight. Even the rear derailleur hanger has been pushed inboard to the minimum Shimano / SRAM spec.

-Sam and Brendan both rode 2 generations of this new bike, prior to the one you see today. We’ve done a lot of secret R&D testing in which Curtis Keene was heavily involved with. All the riders absolutely love the new bike. Things they’ve keyed in upon are how it feels more plush and controls the bottoming more precisely, while feeling lower and lighter – corners stronger due to the weight being shifted downwards. Riders also stated that they were no longer hitting their heels on the stays.

-Release date and pricing to be announced at a later date.

Huge thanks to Jason Chamberlain and Brandon Sloan of Specialized Bicycles on bringing everyone here at Pinkbike up to speed on the new bike!

Thanks to Ian Galbraith and the trail crew at Silver Star Mountain Resort for the kick ass trail network and the amazing lodging at the Snowbird Lodge.

Curtis was gonna talk more about the 2011 Demo 8, but we all figured that actions speak louder than words:

haha, got to admit that. but besides the shock, sick bike!

 So sick!

The Air Shock works like a charm, unless you've ridden this model, your random comments hold no concrete worth. Ride and then post up.

Out of the box weight for a complete 2011 Demo 8 should be in the 36lb range. thats effing nuts!
  • 22 1
This air shock is brilliant, if you have any idea of how the technology inside it works there is no reason it shouldnt work brilliantly well so long as it holds up to the abuse of dh riding. but only time will tell

This 2011 frame weighs 3/4 of a pound lighter than the 2010 one, that was 12lbs.... its still a beast.

As much as I'd like to ride one next year, I just think it would be really high mantenence with all the broken (light) parts that come with the frame.
  • 6 1
such a slick and clean bike. thats what i like to see. Well done specialized!
  • 12 1
It actually looks fast. So bad ass in black.
  • 3 1
so beautiful ... specialized is making their bikes to fit the popular neeeds of riders AND the quality and performance!!! Il be working all year round for this!
  • 7 0
i spot new avid codes there
  • 12 5
hold on a second...take a good look at the frame and shock positioning...hm...like u see u cantput the shock up-side-down cuz the piggyback wouldnt fit..so it has to be like that..great..but, since it HAS to be like that, and on the otherside there is this new shock link-connection-thing, how the hell are u supposed to adjust the rebound on other shocks that have the rebound on that side of the shock? such as basicaly any coiled shock?
  • 4 0
I'm pretty sure you can still fit your hand in there.
  • 3 1
but the problem isnt ur hand, but the rbound knob..where ist rebound knob gonne go? as far as i see, on this vivid they took the adjuster away, and u have to adjust it with a tool..BOS style..look at picture 3 and 4 counting from up

probably the best looking specialized bike i have seen to date. looking very nice!! good technical improvements too, might go on the wishlist this one!! good work specialized!

looks like a ton of fun, sweet follow up video. but the video of Curtis himself riding, what the hell kind of music is that?
  • 6 0
Specialized setting the benchmark higher once again....
  • 3 0
Good point pperini I take your word on the issue, what you've got to bare in mind is this is specializes first every attempt at a true 100% stock race bike the demo 8 08 + 09 having a slight freeride pedigree in them and even the 010 dispites its moded geo is the same, weight saving and geo come before practicality so if it means removing the rear shock for adjustments so be it as far as specialized are concernd..

very sick bike! but im wondering if can hold up to big mountain riding, it almost looks a little weak for a sender or a big drop, so that makes wonder if specialized is gunna make a freeride bike beside the demo 7, thats what i have right now, its amazing but im looking for something with more travel, so will this demo hold up to senders and big drops??
  • 2 3
Probably a good shock but kind of unappealing. That's all I love that bike, it looks amazing and I can't wait to ask someone who owns it to try it lol
  • 3 0
its belly is smaller (look at the 2010 to 2011 comparison) so it did loose weight...hahahaha
  • 1 0
um well quite literally, yes. but it also looks more agile to me..

It looks like Specialized have finally caught up in the battle for DH bike supremacy. This bike looks like it will be competing with the V10's and the Orange 224's etc. The old demo's were never a bad bike, they were great infact. But it has transformed into a proper downhill race machine. Good work Specialized, and good luck with future bikes!

well i see snapping chainstays coming up now.. and what up with that Big fokking dent in the front wheel rim.. ? (@ the valve)
i like the shock mounting,., but @ the same time.. have my doubts about it..
  • 1 1
The bike looks sick and light but I'm skeptical about the shock mounting system. I see no reason why they put the rear eyelet horizontal compared to the conventional vertical mount. Also all saying the air shock technology evolved and all, yes it might have evolved but a spring just feels better. Non the less, this is the first demo frame that makes me want to leave a 951.
  • 4 1
i don't know guys i think i agree with the spanish dude above.... im sure this frame is a lot lighter and will ride better in general but as a huge fan of demo frames this is too much of a change for me.... im gonna miss the older frame design and this one is gonna take some getting used to.... also, even though im sure they are designed that way for a reason, the top tube that gets thinner in the middle and the lower tube that gets wider under the cranks as well as the bending of them both just seems a little....weird to me.... anyway i hope i get over this soon and see this baby as a demo too....

I must say, the shit talkers were put in place by the "don't hate it till you try it", but hey, all the people speculating how great it must be are just as bad, for all you know it COULD ride like shit.

In my opinion it doesn't LOOK as good as the old Demo but hey, whatever I'll never be rich enough for one anyways, and if its lighter, and (hopefully) rides better, who cares.
  • 1 0
you can adjust any rebound adjuster with that setup easily it just doesnt show it my friend has one and his r4s rebound adjuster is just laid on its side with that new link which, btw, makes it easier to remove the rear shock...only 2 bolts now. That bike is a beast!. Flimsy parts? Where?
  • 1 0
im guessing that this is the other color option besides the red and white one that they have had up for awhil its black and yellow it looks pretty sick

  • 1 0
much prefer that colour! Big Grin
  • 6 0
Based on the components on the bike, I can easily see 36lbs. DT 5.1 rins are more of an all mountain rim. Running a more appropriate wheelset will add 1/2 to 1 pound. A coil shock (which is not necessarry in my honest opinion, based on my experience with the manitou evolver ISX series,) will add another pound. This translates into a real world weight at approx 38lbs. Sub 40 pound DH bikes are the norm these days. I have a DaBomb Bouncing Betty, and with all dedicated downhill components, weighs 39lbs, and the frame is 12lbs without shock. I had to run tubeless and a ti spring to get to that weight, but there are no XC components on the bike. The Demo as is, would be raceable, but the wheels wouldn't survive a whole season.
  • 1 0
depends on how smooth a rider you are, i find myself unable to ding 721's or mtx 31's with a dual ply tyre
  • 5 0
I think people are finding it hard to like the new look after the departure of the older frame which hadn't changed much since 2005. But over time as people get used to it the popularity will grow. Nice to see a massive update on a legendary bike!
  • 14 7
well im not really a big fan of the new look.. but i guess performance > looks

really nice slick looking frame. looks like it will be relatively easily chucked about with thought out geo. am liking the fact that there is a mahussive dent in his front rim and a small one in the back and jebus he was flying in that vid all in all good report
  • 1 0
Hmm light build weight but the rims in the cover shot are already looking pretty toasty. My thoughts on the spec of the vivid air is that I hope that companies are choosing it because it maximizes the overall performance of the ride. Instead I feel they spec it just so they can sell the bike based on build weight. One cool idea that I think would be practical would be if a company could strike a deal with SRAM and have the purchaser allowed to select the coil or the air Vivid. It seems air vs coil has come down more to do you want the weight of air or the unmatchable plushness of coil'n'oil. Just my thought.
  • 4 0
 Amazing.

Makes me want to get a Demo again.

Anyone want to buy a kidney? Smile
  • 1 0
Love the new design. Looks alot better with the new compact design to the frame. Only question i have is other shock companys going to offer a shock to fit this specialty set up if you do in fact want to switch to fox or marzochi and only complaint i have is how skinny the tubbing is makes you wonder how strong the beast is but until it comes out and i can ride one theres no telling. And as far as the rockshoxs suspension go's i like the idea of an all air setup and think sram makes alot of great stuff. I have road both rockshox nd fox and love my fox stuff for sure but sram has made huge improvments in there suspension line recently so stop hating on the new stuff they put out until u ride it. TJ

well, looks like i will have to break my 2008 demo frame to receive this from warranty..lol. frame looks great, love the air´s
  • 1 0
 good luck! lmao
  • 2 1
 I'd jump it.
As for the weight factor, there is less excess bends and material on the bike so there for it weighs less. Looks a bit bottom heavy to me though. Bet it rails on 180 berms. Big Grin

I agree though, air shocks are awesome for weight but I'm thinking what if you blow a seal on one up on the mountain? Major suckage. Wonder if they will offer it with coil-n-oil?
  • 2 1
I have been on a demo for the last three three years and I wish they would shorten the wheel base a bit. It is a little slugish in turning when things get slower and tighter because of the near 47 inch wheel base( I think one of the longest out there). If it was shortened up a bit this thing would be unreal. I think it would manual a little easier as well.
  • 1 0
They did. The Size XS is a 45inch wheel base. Size S comes in around 46.1 inch. You could just select a smaller frame.
  • 2 0
specialized have such a short back end (shortest ive ever seen on a downhill bike), it sounds like your riding a bike too big for you
  • 1 0
Haha, look at the front rim, near the tube valve. Big dent! I had the same on my 2010 Demo 8, destroyed the rear rim after just 3 hours of riding. It's an absolutualy amazing bike, but I honestly dont understand why Specialized uses the crappy DT Swiss rims and not someting bombproof like Mavic EX721's... Otherwise completely sick bike!
  • 2 0
Can Specialized please make this bike compatible with the Marzocchi Rocco World Cup Air shock? I have never been able to run the Marzocchi air shock due to frame compatibility issues on any demo. The Marz WC air shock rips!
  • 1 0
So pumped about this bike. Can't wait to sell my 2007 demo 7, buy someone's 2010 demo 8 when they upgrade to this in September. Then sell the 2010 after 2 seasons, and buy one of these used! I like paying 2000-3000 for slightly used bikes instead of 4000-6000 for new bikes. But I'm so glad people are willing to pay that much for new bikes knowing they will be worth half as much 1 year later.
  • 1 0
The specification really appeals to me. If Specialized manage to offer a variety of nice paint jobs and the frame kit retails @ £1999.99 then I'd most likely order one. Specialized should take a leaf out of Santa Cruz, Orange & Commencal when it comes to colour selection & variety!
  • 1 0
www.vitalmtb.com/images/stories/2010/07/01/full86490650_1277998178.jpg Does seem like they still can't offer any appealing paint jobs. Dont get me wrong, the 09s & the 2010s were real good but there just wasn't enough options. In the past Specialized seem to like using dark, murky colors, specially brown...so ugly & nasty. STOP IT! Reds, Yellow, Blue, Orange, whites,silver/Ti/graphite finish please; heck throw in violet or Purple! Why not offer a made to order service like Santa Cruz, Orange & Intense do so we can select our colors.
  • 2 2
yeah specialized finally uses an 83mm BB, a 150mm rear end, and a 1.5" headtube. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of other great tech in the bike the 10mm chip in the shock eyelet, 1.5 headtube with the ability to run a Cane Creek Angleset. I won't be running any CC headsets because they are junk to me ( but its a cool idea)... Chris King FTMFW.

 That is a beautiful bike!

Is this the bike Matt Hunter rides in Follow Me?

@MountainGoat65
I am not sure, they seem to have done a lot of work on this and the frame I believe will hold up to the abuse of most riders.
  • 1 0
No. He rides the '08 model, b4 all the Sam Hill versions came out (I paused it to see!).
  • 1 0
he was using a black demo 7 as well.

Looks like they are really gearing the Demo 8 to Racing. I liked the 2008 Demos, they had the Fox 40s and were more big mountain oriented.
  • 1 0
I see what you mean, they'll probably make more than one model though
  • 2 0
no reason to say you couldnt huck that bike. Im pretty sure sam hill puts more than an enough stress on the frame in downhill runs to show its strong enough to handle some big hucks
  • 2 0
hes not saying that u couldnt huck that bike, hes just saying that it would be cool if they made another freeride demo
  • 1 0
Yea that's exactly what I was thinking.
  • 1 1
but you dont need a freeride one to do jumps and hucks. Everyone else rides downhill bikes for freeride and get along just fine if not better.
  • 2 2
will they still sale the old demo though?
It feels like this new frame cant be trusted till a year and a half of production and to see how many of them hold up to other people's abuse or how pros ride theme like mat hunter ride the old one. and it says in the article that the frame uses a new Press Fit Standard bb30 bottom braket. does that mean that the bottom braket works like the head tube that doesnt have a thread but needed to be pressed to fit which will be harder to replace.
Correct me of im wrong....
  • 2 0
it comes with adapators until crank and bb manufactureres catch up with press fit, but with the correct tool (which costs under £20 GBP), you can remove headsets in about 10 seconds, so dont see why it wouldnt be the same for the bb

Probably just me but i think the rear swing arm looks very untidy and cluttered where the shock is.
  • 2 0
I just wanna know color options on this bad boy!
  • 1 0
in the title photo, it looks like the front rim has a dent in it close to the valve
  • 1 0
Didn't the earlier gen prototypes used by Hill and Fairclough use a different hub standard?
  • 1 0
Yes, Hill and Fairclough had modified frames which ran 150x12 opposed to the 2007 - 2010 production frames which ran 135x10.
  • 2 1
Does anyone know how the new slightly more progressive spring rate will increase how plush the bike is?
  • 1 3
Nice bike, cool feature with that adjustable eyelet, wouldn't mind if that becomes a standard. Though I would really appreciate someone from spec thoroughly explaining why on earth they try so hard to lower the standover. It's not like people are going to do tailwhips and can cans on it! If it was a Demo Lady version fine. I'm totaly with it on SX Trail, it's a fun/trick bike, but Demo?!

Now this top tube looks weird, it's like something happened to the poor bike, how bad it is to make it straight ona racing bike?! I don't think Gee Atherton complains on his XC-style toptube on his Commencal. Seriously it seems like the next generation of Specialized bikes is going to have a standover of my wifes city bike! Just sell it with the basket to mount on handlebars Wink
  • 2 0
The new commencals have a low slung top tube now to. Low standover is where its at.
  • 1 1
well I don't think Commencal changed their design to achieve lower standover... it came out as a sideffect sort of. Plus I think there are not more than 2 bikes coming even an inch close to that Demo's standover. I don't mean this demo is a bad bike. I Believe it must be brilliant, I'm just about aesthetics here. It just looks like something bad happened to it... if I haven't seen it before SAM's bad crash in Fort William, I would have thought that it's broken as a result of it.
  • 1 1
Sam Hills crashed bike was the first new demo I saw. What a marketing nightmare for Specialized. Their golden boy crashes his new bike, and gets hurt mid season. I don't think anything can overshadow the sickness of this new demo though.
  • 1 0
looks like and 2008 sx trail with a slightly different rear end.... sick bike
  • 1 0
it looks like it has a super low center of gravity. it must turn so well!!
  • 1 1
haha in all the riding hes using a coil but has the air on for the pics, same with what every other pro is doing
  • 1 0
not entirly true, thier running these air shocks for tamer, flatter courses.
  • 1 0
We had the Air Vivid with us, it was not the Tune for the Demo, but we wanted to show it in the frame. We currently have one on a Evil Revolt and it's pretty impressive.
  • 1 1
why does it look so different from this one? http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5267679/
  • 2 0
LOLOlolOLo is just the paint job LolOLoLO Same Bike dude!!!!!!!!
  • 2 2
chill out Brule, people will dig that finaly with airshocks after more PROs ride them. Yes I know it must be frustrating for you. But Many people need to see Gods riding that in order to believe. I was never against air sprung suspension, but even my nerdish faith was weak when I chose DHX coil over DHX air. I read so, soooo many opinions about DHX air not working properly in VPP1 generation bikes, the mid travel hole instead of a sweet spot. And guess what: I just read on VitalMTB words from mr Fritzsimmons himself that yeah, DHX airs before 08 sucked in older long travel bikes.

Now I do believe that Vivid Air is fanf*ckintastic as well as guys from FOX and RS possess some certain substance of intelligence and huge amounts of brilliance, and after two years they must have solved that Wink
  • 1 0
I really think it's a leverage game with the shocks. Lower leverage, longer travel shocks will heat up much less than a short stroke. They generally also aren't thrashed around when riding compared to a short stroke shock. A plus to them using the new design for the shock mount. I have faith in air shocks, because I have seen what they have done in the off road world. Crazy to eliminate both coils and leaves on crawlers. It just shows the potential of air shocks. The mtb game is quickly catching up. (none the less, still don't trust em up front).

How many long shock stroke bikes did those DHX airs have problems on? I bet not many.
  • 1 0
 very impressed with this one
  • 1 0
is it just me or does that head tube look realllyyyy thin
  • 3 1
 I LIKE THE 2010 1 BETTER

  • 1 0
Hmm don't like the look of the frame but it must preform lol
  • 1 1
Nice pics, but that could've possibly been the worst video editing I've ever seen.
  • 1 0
 Is the frame Hammerschmidt compatible?
  • 1 0
Yes the frame is hammer schmidt is compatible as far as the ISCG 05 tabs go. But can you put a hammer schmidt on the bike? NO. You can't get the proper spacing from the frame. The collar assembly will hit your frame. If you space it out more the hammer schmidt will not function properly. So no the hammer schmidt will not work on the 2011 demo 8.
  • 1 0
Is he riding a different bike than the in the pictures :L
  • 1 0
i forgot to wear a condom before watching this video...
  • 2 0
 Sexy!
  • 2 0
 wow
  • 1 0
that thing looks amazing! i cant wait to get one... haha
  • 5 4
for the 10spd fool's that demo only has 6! 10speed is wack!
  • 4 1
Agree! I never use more than 4 gears.. NEVER! Why would you use 10? Shifting like a maniac isn't going to help you get faster..

And I've always hated the look of the demo's but this year I'm loving it! But in the video it looks wierd because of the standover height..
  • 1 2
How he can have 7 speeds???
9 speeds on my bike it's too much i don't need all that.

5 speeds it's really enough.

I saw his derailleur is a X0, so like a normal XO i guess, and what is his shifter???

I have X9 shifter and derailleur. could i fix my gear to have only 5 or 6 speeds working and not more?
  • 2 1
Take it you guys don't pedal up the hill then?
  • 2 0
PA37 - he is using a 9 speed cassette, its just that he's replaced two cogs with a spacer and that aluminum plate that stops the chain going into the spokes. You can always remove cogs from your cassette as long as you put spacers in there - the most extreme example of this is when people convert their 9 speeds to singlespeed with a single cog and a bunch of spacers. Another example is the street setup where you put spacers instead of the smallest cogs and then you can shift the chain onto the spacers and do rollbacks without having to pedal backwards.
  • 1 0
iamamodel : For the cassette i'm agree with you,

But for the shifter, how you fix it to have only 7 speeds working and not 9...?
  • 2 0
PA37, check the photos that show the derailler: you'll see two silver bolts - the limit screws. You'll see that the upper limit screw is screwed in much more than the bottom one - this limits how far inboard the derailler will move.

It is a handy thing to know in case you are out riding and you break your rear derailler cable, you can screw the limit screws so that you can choose which cog you are stuck in instead of the spring forcing the chain onto the smallest/hardest cog.
  • 1 0
PA37, check out the Tech Tuesday on adjusting SRAM deraillers:

www.pinkbike.com/news/tech-tuesday-sram-rear-derailleur-adjustments-2010.html
  • 1 0
Loving the 7 gears. I am so pissed about the new 10 speed standard I'm sure I will be forced into one day. Does anyone know if SRAM or Shimano will still be making 9 speed setups, or my dream: an 8 speed setup.
  • 1 0
Standover height..the one in the vid is a Large and they're bigger every model this year. I saw it in the Parking lot and I have ridden a Small and it feels almost as long as my 09 Medium Demo 7...almost same wheelbase.
  • 1 0
I know how to fix a derailleur, thank

And i tried also with this two screws...

And i can't move the derailleur more than one speed less...

So how he can have only 7 speeds?

I will try again tomorrow... but f*ck ya... I don't want this f*cking 9 speeds
  • 4 5
"Unlike the 2010 model, you can once again adjust the geos on the 2011 offering." Uh, no. You might mean "similar to the 2010 model," but not "unlike the 2010 model."
  • 1 0
omg a thing that i can only dream of : s
  • 1 1
well, i took a closer look...forget about the moving parts but it does look chunky not my cup of tea
  • 1 0
super sick guys tht wht i think anyway cant wait to gt mine
  • 1 0
Wow! It's definately different, sleek looking. Quite like it.
  • 1 0
I saw it when i was up there, looks sweet if you ask me!
  • 2 1
Are those new tires? They look like cut spikes.
  • 1 0
New tyres for 2011. Specialized Hillbilly.
  • 2 1
So why doesn't Troy Brosnan have one ?
  • 1 0
Troy Brosnan isnt on the Specialized prototype program, he isnt on the SRAM Blackbox program either. Troy will be riding the new Demo for 2011, apparently he'll be riding a size XS. I didnt think he was that small! :-o
  • 1 0
I heard they were calling the xs model the "Troy Brosnan size". And he doesn't even get to ride one!
  • 1 3
Does anyone notice hes not using the air shock. In the video its a coilover. Maybe the air shock disnt as responsive or something. I would like to see a comparsion between a air shock and a reliable coilover.
  • 2 1
wow, i NEED a bike like this!!! Drool
  • 1 1
for some reason the evil revolt frame came to mind when i saw this first, i like it though
  • 2 1
 What tires are those?
I am keen for a set...
  • 1 0
They're Specialized Hillbilly Tyres. They're also doing Specialized Butcher Tyres. Both brand new for 2011. : )
  • 1 1
Specialized clutch sx is the best tire out there right now! Even beats minion by a loooong way!
  • 1 0
Very nice. But I don't get what that has to do with answering konafarker's question.
  • 1 0
Just saying he should buy those instead!
  • 1 1
Yeehhhh, Me too, I prefer a diferent rear shock, like a FOX ! But any way... My next bike !!!
  • 1 0
woah, kse and dh goes so well together!!!
  • 1 0
 Cool bike. Props spesh!
  • 1 0
 sick
  • 6 6
sick spec but i hate the frame!! its ugly!!! i much prefer the 2010 model
  • 4 4
I have to agree the 2010 demo 8 looked better and it looked more durable and more smooth
  • 1 0
I love the paint job of my 2010 Demo 8 II I hate what they're doing for the new paint. They should do that matte black as their stock color not that gay white and red.
  • 1 0
 sooo sleek and sick!
  • 1 0
 Sick Rig... Can't wait!
  • 3 3
air shocks on dh bikes now?
  • 2 2
sounds mad but can anyone else see the makings of a intense 951 in there
  • 1 2
Yes I do. Downtube looks identical. Also adjustability similar to the 951.
  • 1 0
 lovely
  • 1 0
 i like it
  • 1 0
 Cables are nice and save
  • 1 0
 now THATS a bike
  • 1 0
 Hello new bicycle
  • 2 1
 ohhhh, i want it
  • 1 2
i was there when that photoshoot was being done, it looked like sam hill to be honest... sick demo tho!!!
  • 1 0
 i would.
  • 1 0
 looks pretty sick!
  • 1 0
 sick sick sick bike
  • 1 1
 I think I got a boner!! ha!!!!
  • 1 0
 I want it now!!!!!!
  • 1 0
 Thinking about it
  • 1 1
Nice refinements. Like the look of the new tires too.
  • 1 1
 nothing like proprietary shock mounts
  • 1 0
And I couldn't see any du bushings on the geo adjuster chip. I don't mind the rear shock mount, mine is similar on my sx.
  • 2 0
They are using STANDARD shocks for 2011 - 9.5 eye to eye and 3" stroke. The "Shock Extensions" will be available for most popular rear shocks. The Adjuster Insert fits in the place of a standard Fox DU.
  • 3 0
I am just nervous about the eyelet getting enlarged without a du in there. I knew they are standard mounts as they are the same on my sx.
  • 1 0
whattheheel - I wouldn't worry about it. if anything wears out, it will be the insert. Giant also uses a thru pins (no DU bushings) on the lower pivot of some of their bikes. only problem I can see is if you choose to run a shock that doesn't have a standard eyelet diameter.
  • 1 0
 DAMN!
  • 1 2
might work great...back end still looks chunky and sooo many moving parts...can't u just keep it simple
  • 1 0
will there be a demo 7?
  • 2 0
Nope, not any more, they've decided to push the SX-Trail for the 'would be Demo 7 customers' instead. I think it's a smart move as the new Demo is slightly similar to the SX-Trail so anybody who wants a Demo 7 pedigree can either buy the SX-Trail 2011 or buy the Demo 8 2011 size XS and wack some Totems or Fox 180s on it.
  • 1 0
 WHAT A NICE BIKE!
  • 1 0
 very very nice bike
  • 1 1
 Good - low laver ratio

  • 1 0
 Thats a beauty!!
  • 1 0
 SWEET!!
  • 1 1
im not liking the vivid air
  • 1 1
Sweet... It looks very clean.. Too clean to be called a DH bike..
  • 1 2
front wheel bent. look at rim near nipple.
  • 1 2
Put a spring on that Vivid and i would run one of these any day!
  • 2 1
ah, you've had a go on one of these new air vivids, whats it like to ride? where did you try it out?
  • 1 0
the vivid airs are absolutely amazing, they feel just like a coil shock when your riding so i wouldnt discount them, plus theyr about a pound lighter
  • 1 3
in the video he is riding on a coil shock. I dont think the air shock will hold...
  • 1 2
 I just got mine today!
  • 1 3
 im not diggin it
  • 2 4
 junk
  • 1 4
almost 47" long in the medium? That's a long bike for the East Coast!
  • 1 0
brendan helped design and he is from the uk, so im sure it'll be plenty fine
  • 1 1
Lots of dense hardwood growth in this region. Almost tropical rain forest tight.
