Matt Macduff sees things differently than most. Matt built the Sanctuary of Fun with the goal of building features that no one has seen, no one has ridden (much less tricked), but better yet, stunts that would define himself and his unique style of riding. After spending a few weeks with Matt, I quickly realized that he has one of the most creative minds I have ever encountered. Matt and I ended up having some major weather issues while I was down there and only ended up getting a day and a half of shooting in. Drew Bezanzon approached me last winter explaining that his friend Jay has a bunch of land in Nova Scotia, and that if I were to come out and help him build, I could build what ever I wanted. I ended up meeting Jay that same day at Joyride 150 and we threw ideas back and forth at each other. I showed him some drawings I had from past ideas and he was instantly stoked. After some time passed, I ended up getting a plane ticket out east to go check out the property and to see if what I had in mind was even possible. After seeing the property and hearing Jay’s vision of the bike park he wanted to build, I knew there was some serious potential. So a week turned into two, and before I knew it I was there for two months. We started the project in May, and all together I have spent four months in the woods basically by myself building the first stage of SOF. Jay and Drew gave me a place to make my dreams come true, a once in a lifetime opportunity. -Matt Macduff

Uh huh... again I highly doubt this.
I'm guessing his tricks weren't on par because of the insane-ness of riding brakeless so really you saying he was docked points for having no brakes really means that you're angry that he wasn't awarded more points for having no brakes.
The number of levers you have on your bars isn't going to affect your score you nubbers. There's nothing on the score sheet that awards or detracts if you have brakes or not.
If you guys saw his run from this year, you would probably agree that he should have got scored higher. Like he nolied t-whip of the boner and trucked off that drop... it was crazy. But in the end who really cares, this video was super nice and he has so much style.
poetic- I never said they detracted points for him being brakeless, I said that you people are being idiots for thinking they should have added points for him being brakeless... btw its awesome how you said it was the announcers... but really you didn't... you did claimed the judges docked him for being brakeless a few posts above... which is idiotic.
For the people out there that cannot comprehend what I'm saying here it is broken down...
1. Riding that course brakeless is insane... regardless throwing any tricks on it.
2. Brakeless should NOT give you brownie points above others who use brakes but throw gnarlier/risker stuff
3. Slope comps. are not separately judged on whether you ride with brakes or not... nor should it ever be that way. It's about what you throw down and on what features, that's all.
How is this up for discussion? He obviously kills it so if he wanted to place better he would ride with whatever set up that allows him to throw the tricks that allows him to qualify for finals/podium. You guys are mindless fan-boys. He rides with what he's most comfortable riding with but that doesn't mean he should automatically be at the top of the pile... after all comp results aren't the end-all-be-all, right? Cheeze and crackers....
Matt nollie whipped the boner log, trucked the drop and super seat-whipped the last jump at Claymore. I was there, I was competing against him for a spot, and I still thought he got robbed.
I pretend that I don't like slopestyle/dj videos because these dudes are way radder than I'll ever be. I can't even fake the funk on this one. Shit was sick.
Some awesome shots, loved the B+W. But for me, way to much slo-mo, it just became annoying the amount there was. I can understand the creative shots, they're brilliant, but too much for me personally.
So legit. Crazy riding and great shots. But man a little too much slow mo. I imagine it's hard to resist with that new camera, though. Once you have the capability of super slow motion, you can make anything look cool
Love the MadMax-style, feels like the end of the world has come and one last rider is still out there, sessioning the shit out of his zone. Insane style all throughout that video.
Very nice, amazing visuals ! the only thing that would make stuff like this better is a bit of story element, banter or just something other than pure visuals.
that was sick, not sure why you'd include a shot of him doing a big 360 to massive case though...let's see a proper trails edit from him, not just trick jumps!
Because if you were ever there in person you'd realize how narrow those trees are and he had to be at the 180 position to even pass through them without hitting his wheels, its ridiculous really
to be honest, when the jumps were in the plans and they said they were building the gap through them i thought they were nuts haha, then to see that 360 through it just blew my mind
He rides a lot of street/park and some riders do this if they are more dominant in grinding, stalling, peg tricking on the right side. This protects the drivetrain. I'm an older dude, but that is my understanding and I think it is pretty common in street BMX. He was throwing some huge tricks in this video brakeless, which is pretty insane.
I was half way through the video when I see the bars and thought, "now those are some naked looking bars...he isn't riding without brakes...he can't be." Annnnd he totally is. The only "brakes" I could think of are the old "pedal back to break" but I clearly saw him back pedal that 360—that dude is crazy.
