yeah, i was gonna say that too. i'm bored of his tuck-no hander flips, 3-whips and drop backflip tables. i dont understand why he doesnt pull some frontflip combos he was practising like a year ago. he's not an innovative, but still a great rider though.
You cant complain about someone who is consistently good! He wins because the tricks he does pull he can do them well and more importantly, they are better than the others there on the day.
"i'm bored of his tuck-no hander flips, 3-whips and drop backflip tables" And i think a big part of his run was back flipping into the whale tail, and then 3ing out of it when he couldn't see the landing from the lip. That takes balls.
Maybe he doesn't want to put his body on the line as much as the other guys. And if a tuck-no backflip isn't good enough for you then just on your bike and do something better.
Is it just me or has mtb come to a bit of a standstill this year? there have been no new tricks, nothing out of the ordinary thrown down at contests and runs like this that won contests last year and havn't changed are still winning this year. sad to see after the last 2 years of craziness. hopefully it picks up more into the summer and guys really start throwing down.
its amazing how he doesnt show his 3 double whips or hid 3 bar to whip and even win nearly every contest i guess its because of his amazing style and his consistent
@mhopper: yeah you're right, but we're talking about competitions here @hoolydooly: tuck-no hander is an amazing trick but I know some people who can do that even at our local spot. and they're not FMB participants... NEG PROPS, COME AT ME!!!!
I definatley would never say hes not innovative he has been one of the first to land some pretty major tricks on a mtb (flat drop frontflip, windscreenwiper, bikeflip etc.)though he hasn't pulled them in a comp. Why would he risk crashing trying something like that when he can win on the tricks he has absolutly dialled. Also he does flip tuck-no a lot but its better than just a straight back flip like lots of riders do loads. TBH i dont think our opionons matter, its the judges opinoins that count and once again he won another comp so he is obviously doing something right.
Do you not realize that you cant just go to every contest and throw down the gnarliest tricks? Every course varies... most do not have alot of flow and are not ideal for doing anything at all... come ride some of the slope courses and you will know why we dont do ground breaking tricks all the time.
mr deathstar. I'm not saying he's only doing supermans just like I'm not saying pilgrim is only doing tuck flips. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm not into criticizing a rider for having a go-to move or even for repeating a move from time to time. what these guys do is amazing and under some pretty variable conditions (1 point to carson). Seems like some people are quick to criticize when we should recognize the level of skill at these contests. I'm glad pilgrim won using his trick selection. Seems like he deserves it. Can't wait for the full vid to see the level of competition.
hey @barneyblitz what runs did you put together at the last few comps sam competed in???......oh let me guess you wer'nt there because your not a pro rider!!! so i might suggest until you are, you keep your negative comments to yourself. You can't pull any trick there is on every jump, they have to be right, even i no that and i'm a girl!! Try checking 'Sam Pilgrim MAY zing 2011 exclusive' and 'Sam pilgrim - 2011 my year' on utube and see how non- innovative and boring he is @ghostrider95 and i'll be watchin with anticipation to see what you and @barneyblitz are gonna pull out the bag at the next FMB comp!!!!!!!!
I agree lots of comp videos of Sam are mostly the same, so I can see why people are getting board of watching the same every comp he get a podium which is normally more than often. But why slate him when he wins and is super consistent? I don't think its fair to say he should push himself every comp, maybe he should once in a while? Pushing limits can result in a broken neck or back results and worse paralysed. Sams obliviously has a clear game plan and sticks to it and it pays.
I don't think they are hating on him, they are just saying they don't think his runs are winning runs. They shouldn't be. He is throwing down harder than most guys but nobody is really pushing anything big and thats why runs like those win.
hes putting runs together that are good enough to win events. he has bigger and better trick but if he doesnt need do do them to win the comp then why would he take the risk.
when I was watching the video I was thinking: "yep, another backflip table off a drop, other flair (...) let me guess he's going to pull a 3whip... oh yeah there it is and when he was going to do the last jump I said wait a minute he didn't pull any tuck-no hander backflip nor a 720ยบ . what a suprise!
one second later: what a disappointment...
I can't understand why he always do the same in the contest instead of doing some trick anyone appart from him does like bikeflip. I think it's not all about winning, at least for me it's more intresting to see a rider who does tricks anyone does in contests although he won't get the podium than see a rider who always win with exactly the same runs! sorry for my english juas
To all the negative comments: Sam is leading the FMB tour, and this was a bronze event. I would be saving the big tricks to wow judges on gold and diamond events, some of the FMB riders don't even bother showing up until it's a gold or diamond event, whereas Sam seems to be racking up serious points at every event. No doubt when it comes to Joyride (or rampage if he competes this year) the big tricks will be pulled out of his sleeves. As for this being a boring year, what about Reynolds pulling out a double flip followed by a double whip?? Still think he should have won Bergline even if Andreu was smoother.
Awesome! Another well deserved win again sam Ignore the negative comments, the guys that wrote them probs never pulled a flip in their lives, let alone with the tuck no hander bit!!!!!!!
You guys say he's not pushing it, blah blah blah, but I don't think that dirt jumpers have been pushing it, because they can't...there isn't much more to do.
I don't know; Cordova Backflip, Cliffhanger Backflip, Frontflip Tailwhip, Frontflip Superman, Winshield Wiper, Bike-flip, Cashroll? Those are pretty nuts. I too thought that DJing was going to get pretty stagnant but scoping Youtube and Pinkbike for riders like Sam Pilgram, Mike Montgomery, Benny Phillips, and Cam McCaul (frontysuper) you find some pretty nutty stuff. Not to mention all the BMXers who are throwing video-game tricks (ie. 1080 Tuck-no and Decade to 360) It seems pretty innovative to me.
