The inaugural National Enduro Championships is just over a week away, taking place in the iconic Smithfield Mountain Bike Park nestled just outside of Cairns, QLD. Presented by Mountain Bike Australia, the race sets off from the idyllic Palm Cove esplanade bordering the Great Barrier Reef. Riders transit through the Northern Beach Suburbs before entering the park and beginning the first of 5 grueling transits to the equally challenging and fun stages.

Take a ride down with locals (and race entrants) Berend Boer, on POV duty and Evan Winton. With Evan having recently finished the last touches of trail work to this very stage, and Berend hot off some fierce training - both are set to be real contenders come race day. Stage 2 follows the original alignment first carved out in the early 2000's for the then 2004 National DH Championship titles. Now with a faster, more fun and more rider friendly facelift, this stage is set to be a favorite for racers as well as the hundreds of locals who tear down the trail every other week!

For full course map with transits, stages and elevation profiles available on RideCairns.Com and the RideCairns Live mobile app head to: RideCairns.com

Link to the first stage POV here... We will be releasing the remaining 3 stage POVs over the coming days, so stay tuned!

Feel free to click the link to watch stage 1 - then the remaining 3 stages once they are released. More than makes up for the 'smoothness' apparently demonstrated by stage 2 Smile

I live 15mins away from these amazing trails and ride them almost everyday, I would 100% recommend any rider to come participate or just view the event because these trails are awesome to ride and are next level S#!T!!!

No disrespect, but that shit was wak.... Watching this video really drove home to me how groomed and underwhelming these "trails" can be lately. Give me naturally occurring technical/twisted single track over this any day.

You can talk 'wak' about these trails all you want but it's obvious you're judging a book by its cover. Go watch Stage 1,3,4 and 5 of the race, then you can talk as much shit as you want.

I'm judging the video that was posted mate... That book's cover was in my opinion very one-dimensional (literally). I know for a fact Cairns has much more to offer. Pity this video was the measure used.

@hensleyspain you've made an assumption of the 'trails' (plural) being groomed and underwhelming based off only the 2nd stage (having had the 1st stage missed uploading BUT linked in for people to catch up on) out of 5 stages getting previewed. I can tell your comment was more one-dimensional than your perception of it through gopro footage. Only half this particular trail / stage is even remotely groomed, or machine built or did you not watch the whole way through? This video wasn't the measure used. Its just a video of stage 2. You can't have very solid facts on Cairns.

Mate, it's simple. A video (of the now fabled and notorious Stage 2) was posted by Pinkbike. I watched it. I was underwhelmed. Made me realise how many of today's trails are just that, groomed... Whether partly or wholly. That was and continues to be my opinion.

No need to defend Cairns or stages 1, 3 or 4. Clearly that was not in scope with my comment... Untwist those panties you got bunched up there my friend...

So what's the point in even commenting something if it's not going to be positive, why even bother? If I saw your local trails and I didn't find them appealing I would attempt saying something positive rather than negative, get what I mean. Especially seeing as we're all mountain bikers here we should keep our reputation of being positive, friendly and just overall have a special bond between us riders. That's why I commented on your statement in the first place because you breached that so called bond we share.

Some parts look more like walking paths than a race course. Also, loving the MTBA logo in the top right of the screen... makes it look like they're doing a really good job in the sport.

HAHAHA. MTBA? Do those guys even know what bikes are? Bloody useless. That mtba logo was probably put on by someone else that has nothing to do with them.
  • 1 2
Um... Are you serious or don't you know that MTBA stands for Mountain Bike Australia?

@mungers I completed a whole uni assignment on MTBA and MTB in Australia. If you would like my reasoning for making a joke of the MTBA logo, you can PM me. Cheers.

DAMN i wish i lived in cairns Frown those trails look about 20 times more fun than my locals in lysterfield!
  • 2 1
lysty is super boring, go ride some fun melbourne trails!
  • 3 0
Hence why lysterfield is classified as xc and these trails are for an enduro course...
