How am I entered into a chance at winning the custom Trek Remedy during the Photo of the Year contest voting?

By simply voting, be it once or in each round as we progress to the eventual Photo of the Year winner, you will be entered for a chance to win this beautiful bike. (One entry per user, per round goes into a random draw for this beauty.)

How Does Photo of the Year Work?

All photos taken and uploaded this year by users were eligible. Each Pinkbike user was able to nominate up to 3 different photos into the contest. The judges then spent several sleepless nights narrowing the nominated photos down to 32 and pit each photo randomly against another photo in a college basketball bracket-like showdown. At this point, users will vote on the match ups and the photo with the most votes will move on to the next round. So 32 photos will narrow down to 16, then 8, 4, 2 until there is a single photo deemed 2015 Trek Photo of the Year Powered by SRAM. The winner will receive a cheque for $5,000 for being chosen your favorite image of 2015.

Vote now for your chance to win!

Nice one guys! Trek really stepping up with these prize giveaways... Now just begin the wait for the inevitable disappointment

Once I won a pair of Michelin tires here on pinkbike, so I am pretty sure that won't happen again.

Not trying to be picky but are those used cranks on the Trek?
I will take it anyways… I guess.
  • 8 0
This will be the one time where you win.
  • 10 1
Between Trek, Fox and SRAM they really cleaned up last year on "best of awards" Smile
  • 9 10
I wonder if the winner would give it back, just because it's boost'ed lol
  • 11 1
Hopefully people don't get salty when someone wins, and we don't have a repeat of last time.

Sorry to piss in everybody's cereal but its called "sarcasm".
Beautiful photos which will in the end equal out to a beautiful bike. That is all.
  • 35 1
i think windproof shorts are really worth it. 149,99 $ for your fart coming out at knee level. What a comfort.
  • 3 0
@Ciaokv It's not boosted. Only the 29er is.
  • 2 3
One question: is it technically possible to win with a photo taken with a mobile?
  • 1 1
@kamelfront secondary heating Big Grin there should be some traffic sign for the farts inside this shorts so they will know where to go
  • 2 0
If you get the full length versions it will stay in there for hours!
  • 2 0
Great pictures this year, the voting got tough there at the end. Rad prize too. Treks always look so clean. Btw, I think you're seeing the raw carbon on those cranks. I've never won anything on PB, and, hoping this is my time!
  • 1 0
When are they announcing the winner
  • 1 0
 When they have selected one.
  • 68 0
 820 mm bars. damn.
  • 8 3
Yeah, no kidding! My Remedy came with 750's - I think I will be upgrading!
  • 75 3
 for crucifixion
  • 21 6
with all the fuzz about larger wheel sizes and wider bars, I'm just waiting for a 31" bike with 900mm bars.
  • 45 1
When is enough going to be enough though? I'm 6' with broad shoulders and the Race Face 800mm bars feel too wide...
  • 6 1
 for tightropes!
  • 18 2
 But still a 60mm stem?
  • 6 1
My frame is a touch small so I moved from a 740 to a 780 and thought it was a good shift. But 820! Pretty sure there must be a little warning sticker on the bar "Warning, do not use in tight twisty forest single track!"
  • 22 0
my bars are like 780 and i find myself punching trees more often than i want to. but maybe i am just a hack of a rider.
  • 3 0
haha I ride some spank 777's and I have clipped my fair share of trees, the ends of my grips do not agree with my bar width
  • 12 3
lmfao 820mm. 780 should be the standard for bars, trim to liking, but anything past that is absurd.
  • 3 6
No This can't be a thing, I love 740 bars, maybe 750 on a big bike. 820 even looks idiotic.
  • 10 1
I've just switched from 780 mm to 810 mm to see if it's going to work. If not I simply cut the bars. Lately I've bought a few-year-old XC bike for hikes. It came out with 580 mm wide bars and 100 mm stem. The feeling on the bike was weird. Funny it used to be a standard and nobody were thinking it might be too narrow back the days.
  • 3 0
The frame looks darn sexy however
  • 4 0
You can always cut the bars down, not everybody has to be on the same width.
  • 2 0
I have 780mm bars just now and I've already done one perfect scorpion between two trees! Seriously, my bike came to an instant full stop and I did a perfect forward flip over the bars!
  • 3 4
720mm is my sweet spot, and I'm not a small guy at all. Bigger is better, and you should go with the widest bars and shortest stem that fit YOU, but I wonder if sometimes guys are just using these gigantic bars without any thought as to whether they actually fit, because, you know, it's not manly to use short bars these days...
  • 4 0
My 770 mm bars don't fit through most doorways of my ancient flat as it is.
  • 4 0
Nice to see Bontrager developing a new bike stand with regenerative cloaking technoogy
  • 3 0
820 mm and everybody can cut it like he wants to. Many dh worldcup - and ews riders are riding 800mm
  • 4 0
Wide bars are great but I definitely have noticed the trend of guys being on massive bars that don't look like they fit them or the bike set up. 820 is great, but MOST people should cut them. There's a sweet spot for everyone, and a range of appropriate widths that your body will work optimally with. (I have a 6'3 wingspan, broad shoulders and prefer 780ish on the dh rig and that or 30in on the trail bike, 28 on the bmx)
  • 2 0
@trialsracer I've seen the same. 6'5" here. 785-800 is a sweet spot for me for the trail bike, so I'd be cutting 820s down a skosh.
  • 53 1
I mean hats off for standing it up running over and taking a pic before it fell over
  • 3 0
It looks like there is something holding it in the last picture but that first one must just be magic because I couldnt find anything in that one
  • 5 3
Sometimes bike just stand up on their own if you balance them right. I've done it a few times.
  • 3 0
But seriously, is that how they take those pictures (i would make a piece of sheet metal at a right angle that follows the contour of the tyre and the floor and rest the bike against that, but that sounds like too much of a mission)
  • 20 0
nominate it for photo of the year!
  • 20 0
Nah, they can't do that. They're two tired.
  • 9 0
I believe there is actually a man in a full body harness hanging just above the bike to grab it if it falls over. Think 'criminal stealing a diamond' and you get the idea.
  • 28 1
 Magnets.
  • 23 3
If it was me taking a photo of that bike I'd be able to hold the bike upright with my erection from behind the tripod and then quickly swing it out of shot.
  • 2 0
@mikekazimer there has to be a metal bit to use the magnets against for that! that bike is almost exclusively carbon, aluminium and magnesium (with the exception of a few small bits and pieces)

I tried to vote for it for picture of the year, figured it'd up my chances, but it didn't let me, I guess I already used all my votes.

  • 1 0
Look in the area inside the chain. Minor shop scar, in between some spokes.
  • 1 0
Pretty sure it's a nylon line and some photoshop...
  • 2 0
Nice to see Bontrager developing a new bike stand with regenerative cloaking technoogy
  • 1 0
Trek has been developing the self riding bike. 1st pic shown right here on pinkbike.
  • 1 0
I think it might be time to introduce enduro style kick standsSmile great for photos of your bike and also so it doesn't get dirty when you stop for a picnic
  • 1 0
@GumptionZA There was a blurb about how they take the bike photos in a mtb action mag from like 2006 that I remember... they have someone balance it, then step out of the frame while the photog snaps the shot, then the assistant grabs the bike before it falls. I've done it a few times and there's no trick to it, other than having another person.
  • 1 1
You can see the stand in the last pic. @darkmuncan pointed it out, he has an eye for detail.
  • 1 0
@trialsracer I've also taken a few pictures like that, I was just hoping trek would have thought up a more high tech system, guess they don't fix whats not broken
  • 1 0
The marketing guys would have you believe 'Boost' is responsible for it standing up on its own due to the added stiffness and stability yada yada ya

  • 12 0

Can I PLEASE get a pinkbike photo of the year calendar with the top 12 pics in it?
  • 6 0
I would buy that for a dollar!

Posters! And we need posters.... Or just the chance to buy a hi-resolution copy of the finalists photo that I can print off on a large canvas Smile

This isn't an ordinary spec list....... This is a M&S Spec List
  • 6 2
It'd be pretty cool as well if they had a brackets contest(like the NCAA March Madness tournament), where voters submit their predictions for each rounds winners.
  • 16 0
and then they should do a thing where you submit your prediction of what the voters will predict in each of the rounds. and call it voteception.
  • 2 1
Comes with shoes and socks and
NO PEDALS!!!!!!!
I hate this about new bikes.
And blah blah blah to those who say "I'd rather buy my own it's personal"
Back in the day when pedals were included a new bike and I'd rock em till they were sloppy and had no pins.....
  • 3 0
well blah blah to your blah blah blah.

Same methodology as the new Apple TV shipping without an HDMI cable and the internet losing their panties over it.

I already have one that meets my specific requirements in terms of size, quality and choice, so please don't change me extra for something I/We don't need.
  • 3 0
Wouldn't it be great if you actually won. I've never won anything like that can you imagine how happy you would be Smile Smile Smile
  • 2 0
I don't know how they always manage to balance their bikes perfectly no matter where... there were even photos of riderless flying bikes. WHAT IS THIS BLACK MAGIC
  • 4 0
Trek's bikes look Awesome these days!

  • 1 0
When do you find out that sonone else won?
  • 1 0
figured ive got like a 0.004 chance of getting this......
  • 13 14
Would be cool if pro photogs weren't allowed to be part of the contest. I'm sure there lots of up and comers who could use a shot at some exposure.
  • 23 4
i heard the same thing last year. and i heard the argument that these pros invest a lot of time and money to be as good as they are.
  • 11 1
@makripper That's true, but I'm pretty sure that even pro photographers don't get paid that much. It's one of those jobs where you do it as a passion, not to get rich. So $10,000 can make a big difference.

But yeah, they could have two competitions though, one for pros and one for amateurs.
  • 7 2
where would you draw the line though, what is a pro photographer? if you get paid for photos, if you have a website? thousands of followers? or just self claimed?

A camera can cost thousands of pounds/dollars, the lenses sometimes cost even more, EACH, and photographers have several in their bag at a time. They deserve to be included in this, even more than amateurs!
  • 2 1
Actually the going rate for commercial/product photography is actually pretty good. The price per image can range anywhere from $500-$30,000(A website like Imagebrief is a good place to check if you want to get a better idea of professional photography rates). However, the huge downside is that it's an extremely competitive field, and you need to be damn near perfect with every shot you sell.

All that being said, to remove the professional photographers from the contest solely to give "amatuers a chance" would ruin the whole contest IMO. There's nothing stopping an amateur from getting into this contest. Any photo can be nominated and if you want to get nominated then get out there and shoot thousands of photos, learn the rules of composition, and perfect your craft as an artist (It's what all of these guys have done). In short, if you want to be in the contest you'[ve got to be one of the best, and that's what makes this contest the highlight of my year.
  • 4 1
@makripper That is true but in this case, merely voting puts one in the running to win the bike, not submitting a photo.
  • 1 1
some of these are so dang good that I can't choose between them. I just flipped a coin!
  • 1 0
Is that really the remedy? rear triangle says no.
  • 1 0
What's different about rear triangle? Looks just like my 2016 rear.
  • 1 0
its not asymmetric? is this just my eyes playing tricks or what
  • 1 0
Actually now you mention it, you are right. The chain stay is not asymmetric like mine (I have the Aluminium one on a 2016 9.8.). Maybe that's the new carbon version? The guard behind the chain ring would be necessary on a carbon chain stay.
  • 2 0
Remedy 9.9s in 27.5 ALL have carbon chainstays. 9.9 big wheelers do not. On Treks site the frame only 27.5 shows aluminum stays but if you read the details it says carbon.
  • 1 0
 Ah, I see.
  • 1 0
The chainstays are carbon on the 9.9, whereas the 9.8 and lower Remedys will have aluminum stays. My guess is that they behave differently than aluminum stays do and therefore do not have to be asymmetrical.
  • 2 0
If you click on the picture, it says it's a slash
  • 1 0
What size is that bike? Looks medium/small?
  • 1 0
I know the chances are so incredibly slim but ooooooh that bike is NICE
  • 3 2
 What's better 26 or 27.5?
  • 4 0
 how long is rope?
  • 1 0
I think that it is my turn to win something here on Pinkbike.
  • 1 0
Mighty fine looking bike right there.
  • 1 0
This bike will be won by a doctor or possibly a lawyer.
  • 2 1
No one outside the North American continent ever wins prizes of this value
  • 1 0
It's a trail bike and a trail shot will win the Trek.
  • 1 0
 That is one beautiful bike.
  • 1 0
hmmm want... what are the holes in the underside of the top tube btw?
  • 1 0
I think they are for a bottle cage
  • 2 0
They're an option for routing. You can get clips that screw in and hold hydraulic cable housing for your dropper post or rear brake.
  • 1 0
one of the sexiest bikes out there imo :-)
  • 1 0
 Oh hells yes!!
  • 1 0
 That is beautiful!!
  • 1 0
 Who won?
  • 2 2
If @johnmoore55 wins I'll feel pissed off Big Grin
  • 6 0
Do you have to mention me in everything?
  • 1 4
 if remedy only. Otherway no
  • 4 0
It got old like 4 times ago.

 That is nice!
  • 1 0

  • 1 0
 Nice bike
  • 1 0
 Did I lose yet?
  • 1 1
