Week 31 and 32 of 52 weeks
by John Lee
Mar 10, 2010
After a crazy fortnight with no wheels, apart from a new 24" rigid bike and being poorly sick two weekends in a row - Cross training became a large focus of the fortnight, with the wattbike clocking up the miles inside the house!

Week 31
The wattbike is becoming a key part of my training schedule and has become a regular routine of programmed training. I am really enjoying using the wattbike to just churn out the miles and assess my riding as I train. It's easy to keep focused and motivated when you have a screen monitoring your every stroke and guiding you in how far you are drifting from achieving your goal.
Monday pm - 20km in 30 mins on the Wattbike
Tuesday am - 4km in 5 mins on the Wattbike
Tuesday pm - 10km in 15 mins on the wattbike
Wednesday - 42km Road ride
Thursday - Pump track session
Friday am - 4km in 5 mins on the Wattbike
Friday pm - 20km in 30 mins on the Wattbike
Wednesday - I came home from a crazy road ride in torrential rain to a surprise parcel in my dining room - it's a huge rectangular white box and hidden inside was a DMR drone ready to roll!
I took the bike down to my new local pumptrack for a quick interval training session on it before heading to work that afternoon for the late shift. The bike certainly ain't the lightest bean on a pole - but it rides smooth and pumps around effortlessly like a dog on heat!
As the weekend loomed so did a cold which decided to descend on me a bit violently and at a perfect time to ruin my weekend of riding! The Drone made a quick trip to the pump track again - but I could hardly focus on the riding! I decided to head home and rest up for the rest of the weekend and get myself healthy again!
Week 32
After a weekend of recovery it was back onto the wattbike to clock up the miles! Using my routine from last week, this is what basic amount I achieved:
Monday pm - 20km in 30 mins on the Wattbike
Tuesday am - Mountain board session for 2 hours
Tuesday pm - 10km in 15 mins on the wattbike
Wednesday - 42km Road ride
Thursday - Pump track session and 10km in 13 mins on Wattbike
Friday - After a quality meeting at work this morning - I was sent home at 2pm as i couldnt stop shaking from being cold (whilst sat in a warm office in a coat and beanie!) I was kinda of happy I had no bikes to really ride this weekend!
Saturday - After a quality sleep in - I woke up late and feeling great! The bug that knocked me down yesterday seems to have disappeared and just been a 24hr thing. We decided to grab the bouldering gear and head out into the peak district for some climbing action and work on my core strength. The weather was good and the climbing was even better - my son took up camp in my spare bouldering mat - and as he snacked and chilled - we climbed to our hearts content and had a great time in the spring sun!
Sunday - Pumptrack session with mates
After a rough weekend and awesome day of climbing - I met with a couple of friends for a sweet weather session of pump tracking and BMX track riding on the drone. However once I began to ride, I realized how knackered my arms were from bouldering - I could hardly lift up my front wheel over a rhythm section - couldn't believe how tired my arms were - they were completely pumped out! Was ace seeing my mates - just a shame I was riding like a child!
It's been a tough fortnight covered in illness but I know my fitness is improving and that I have my bikes for 2010 arriving soon! I'm dead excited so I'm giving you a sneak preview of one of my new bikes!
I just want to say a huge thanks to Damian at DMR and Jill at Haro for their combined efforts on making this bike happen - remember this is only one of 2 race bikes that I'm receiving! You guys have made this project extremely special to me and I am amazed by your support and time.

Get 2-3 mates on board and all try and kill each other! We do that wether it is circuits, road rides or XC TTs. Suffice to say we shit up the road club as to how quick we are going... Bring on the race season!

Do it like, see if there are any riders that live near you you'd be able to hook up with. Theres probably someone on here that you could train with?

Been watching since about week 3, I am amazed at how you balance your life and family and still manage to train as much as you do. But keep up the work, its a blast to watch you improve and to share or be inspired by your feeling of accomplishment.

Good luck to u! I am in the similar situation.
Moreover, "I think", diet is the key to success, far more important than any type of training itslef- cliche, however worth to keep it in mind for the rest of ones life.

my friend has this frame, well the older one, its sooo awesome, feels amazingly plush and bottomless, he goes pretty big on it and the bike is solid as hell. I love the paint on this frame, the x7, Haro has some of the best looking paint/decals I think. I really like the paint on my White Haro Steel Reserve as well.... but this decal is awesome. Haro keep it up! I love where you are going with the imagery on your bikes, and your color choices. The industry is transforming from grey scale to infinite colors for bikes/components. three woots for Haro on this one
