661 Race Knee and Shin Pads

Sep 4, 2008

Calling all Storm Troopers!

The SixSixOne Race Knee and Shin Pad is here to protect you in style.

To start probably half of you won't be interested in a full knee/shin guard. If that's you then i'm on your side as we only run the Troy Lee "T" Bone and Kyle Strait style knee pads. A good set of pedals and 5.10s means we're never going to slip a pedal and get pizza shins!

£44.99rrp

Saying that, you're still going to do yourself an injury if you stack it at Fort William or any rock garden and slice chunks out of your shins. This means you need a set of full length knee and shin guards.

What is apparent is the amount of knee pads out there that don't perform upto the task. At the Megavalanche this year the amount of riders that came over to the Descent-Gear stand asking us to kiss their knees better. Dainese was the number one culprit here, in even the smallest of crashes the knee cap would slide over and expose the knee.

This is where these 661 pads come into their own. One step up from those TLD Brian Lopes with the separate knee gasket. The knee gasket is fitted into the pad on these 661's and I'm pretty sure this alone would keep her in place. That said these have a double cross over strap at the back of the knee. This fits a treat and is super comfortable.

There's plenty of high impact vented plastic on there that does offer maximum protection with the downside of extra weight so do bear that in mind.

Steve Peat at Fort William wears the 661 Race Knee/Shin.
Notice all his sponsors plastered on there, extra coverage!

Features:

• Built in vented knee sock keeps guard in position.
• High impact vented plastics.
• Double lower & upper straps keep guard in place through the worst get offs.
• Thicker ventilated closed cell foam padding.

Aye these pads are a great buy - you're not digging into your wallet to get them but they give you full race protection and comfort - the elbow pads run big so order a size down from what you think - large is more like xl - medium is more like a large - etc. They snug nicely and the velcro doesn't rub while riding - got a pair of the leg and elbow and they have definitely saved my shins and tree nicks countless times -

I have been wearing these for months now and as long as you don't have super skinny legs (which I doubt a lot of bikers do) they don't slip around and saved me many a time on a dodgy landing from a jump! Not to mention the loose rock that flew up into my chin on the Black Run at Cwmcarn.....they paid for themselves that day!!!!

Its kinda unfortunate the way you don't find out how well an item of armour works until you've ridden with it for a bit, by which time its too late to take it back if if doesn't suit the shape of your legs.

I am hoping to get these this weekend, heard lots of good things! I think I'll find the transition from the kyle straits to these difficult though. Its so much extra weight and bulk! Oh well. My legs are starting to look like road kill and "guys dont dig scars".... lol x
