661 SubGear - Brand New!

661 SubGear Compression Suits are brand new for 2010. Think the Skins Compression suit combined with a light weight body armour and here you have 661's Sub Gear.
This is going to be a winner for so many of you..
This is going to be a winner for so many of you..
661 SubGear is an anti-microbial compression top garment fitted with the elbow, shoulder and chest pads for your protection. These are made from "Intella-Foam". A quarter the thickness of the traditional EVA foam, this Intella Foam is super light yet still absorbs impacts.
Quite a tight fitting garment once squeezed on they feel like a second skin. The first thing you notice is how comfortable they are and the movement available to you. Not restrictive at all. Then note all the elbow and shoulder pads fit like a dream. Not wobbling around like traditional body armour would.
The SubGear range uses Dri-Kool material which is a four way compression fabric. With moisture wicking capabilities, even on baking hot days it will take sweat (perspiration) off the skin, keeping you as cool as a cucumber.
On the back there is no padding at all, the only detail is a mesh window to help keep you super cool.
If that is not enough then how about the flat-lock stitching, that makes it almost feel like a seamless garment. No more sticking out seems that irritate you.
Who will this work for?
This could be a long list, don't just think cycling. If you want super lightweight body armour, moisture wicking properties and the bonus of a compression suit then this is it. Dirt jumpers, XC enduro riders, 4x, Downhill, goal keepers, polo players, BMX racers, Megavalanche top seller, any others?
The price is super cheap, only one question though. Can we have the long sleeve version with spine/back protection as well?
Available in the following sizes: XS, S, M, L and XL.
Colour: Grey.
Pictured is the long sleeve version, two other versions are available:
-661 Subgear Long Sleeve £49.99rrp
-661 Subgear Short Sleeve £39.99rrp
-661 Subgear Sleeveless £29.99rrp

as sam-davies sayied..its cool to use under the shirt for trail riders, but then i would want some back protection..at least a bit..
spectacular idea. normal suits are way too bulky for normal riding if you have to push or pedal your bike up and this fills the gap between a normal pressure suit and wearing nothing. Will definitely be getting one.
Great idea but what about the spine protection? They should have left the front armor off of the second skin so you could wear the 661 core saver over it. that way you get full protection.
this is what im talking about!
-finally some thing that hasa reasonable price tag!
i love you 661
also its great for riding the trails, because you dont always need the full protection.

doesn't seem to have a lot of protection. If there was more foam padding on chest and even some on the back, I'd consider getting it.

"or you can wear a nice backpack/camelbak type, mostly the same protection as the pads" - that's about the dumbest thing I've read in a long time.
its true, I am always wearing my camelbak or a backpack while riding and its saved me from some major back pain more then once. A camelbak is pretty much an airbag for your back as its full of water and that water absorbs most of the impact, the only thing that might happen is that the bladder explodes, but its better to explode that then your back.
It would be nice to see them offer another version with some form of back protection. wearing a separate spine protector wouldn't feel that nice and it would most likely slide over the place or feel too bulky.

You need to go and find out what can happen to your back in a crash. Lower back. The curly bit. Go read about the mechanics of that part of the body. All of the cheap, and most of the mid priced, spine armour won't protect you from the worst of messes.
i fall on my back quite often and muy camelback is basically a pillow to land on. if i wore back protection i might not be able to wear a camelback, and thats a necesity for me.
I have to agree with GnarlyX - its called a spine protector as it protects the spine, not only from impact, but from hyper-extension (bending backwards) and hyper-rotation - a CamlBak does not do this.
thats true, but the only thing i wear when i DH are shin/knee pads, ive never really been a person who wears lots of pads. i also never fall too

Looks like a good compromise for those days when full armour seems like over kill but you still want something just in case...
man it sucks how they got bought out by One inc, i ordered one of these not to long ago and because of them being bought out i have to wait 2-3 months before getting it..... man im looking forward to getting one.
if they made a short sleeve with back protection i'd be sold on it. probably gonna go with POC Spine VPD Tee Body Armour instead.

can anyone say broken RIBS! you might as well wear your moms nylons. check out www.skeletools for full coverage lightweight AND cheap, AND think Beast Gear without looking like an arnold shwarzenegar ninja turtle.
Match that to a POC Spine VPD Tee (Backboard only), lightweight, comfy and medium protection, perfect for freeriding / trail riding, but not for DH/racing methinks.
Getting one for general protection, when not wearing my POC VPD suit. Fair price too.

just ordered mine
will be nice for Dirt Jumping and just going out on a quick ride with the friends. I wear my 661 pressure suit with my race kit but when I'm riding just local trails and not racing I think this will be a very good substitute for the pressure suit.
i think it's funny how 661 is getting so close to what people want, but are still so far away. This prdouct is great for the super light material and it protects the major parts of your body, oh wait they for got the most important part, the spine armor. if they had that in this package it would be so much better. i dont wear armor for the shoulder or chest protection, i really only care about the spine and the core.
a swing and a miss,
NEDH

the best one ever would basically be the core saver, but more sleak ( can't even tell your wearing it under jersy )

as stated before Spine protection would be a great idea here, I like the idea of this though, mostly because I find that even in my dainiese pressure suit that my hands fall asleep easy if there is any real restriction on them ( as is the case with any armour that has straps around my forearms )
I do wonder how well this Foam armour would hold up against some bodyslides across Gravel ??
Perhaps its worth investing to test this theory .

Would be the perfect match to an Evoc backpack (integrated spine protector) for enduro riding/racing...
