Over the past decade, riders have been seriously pushing the limits of bike technology and how trails are designed in order to keep up with the demand for speed and air. Long gone are the days of single crown, 3 inch travel suspension and worn-in dirt tracks down open ski runs. It's now been brought to a level of multiple hit, 50 foot booters and DH rigs looking to suck up anything in front of them.

AMPLITUDE is a story giving you a glimpse of the past and the high impact reality of today.

Theres no doubt, a trip to that park will stay with you longer than a new bike. Do it, trust me.

The memories you gain from a trip to whistler far out weigh new bike hype! best places in the world!!! my 3rd time out this year never gets boring

depends how big of an upgrade you would be going for... I mean if you currently ride like a 1998 xc bike and would be getting a carbon v-10, do that! But if you're going from like a 2010 demo to a 2012 demo, I'd go with whistler haha

go to whistler and demo a bike....for like $130 you can demo a v-10, session 9.9, 88, shocker, wilson. they have a killer demo fleet right now. went up two days ago and demoed a v-10 carbon for an hour....i dont think ive ever shit my pants for 60 minutes before. absolutely amaing

Maybe we all start wearing stormtrooper armor that lets you OTB 100 footers and get back up and do it again?

flag redrook (Jun 26, 2012 at 3:59)
Nah, like all progress the start always presents the most change and eventually plateau, everything has it's limits. MTB isn't there yet though. If the terrain doesn't progress, technology probably will.

not to mess with anyones math but 1992 was 20 years ago. in 2002 kona had a mid travel stinkey ans devinci had almost a 7 in travel bike for the mid 2000 price range. But i didnt even look up the 1992 er cause i know stuff was ancient back then but i guess the moral of tee story is to look back from where we came to apperciate what we have for us now. For example i just bought a 2006 demo 8 and i couldn't ask for any think more over the previous bikes i have owned

I was about to say the same thing. We've come along way, but that footage was certainly from 20 years ago. The future will still be cool regardless!

I love how this is one of the only videos that I have ever seen to have rain in it. You can see the individual drops coming down, looks so awesome, it really 'makes' the video. Oh yeah, and two guys seriously killing it... that always helps to Wink

I remember Whistler 10 years ago and it was still sick. First place I really got a feel for bombing techy, fast DH runs. What sticks in my mind from those days is less people, smaller line ups and $270 seasons passes.

Compare this Amplitude video Whistler made to the Kona Joe Smith Operator video from 2 years ago to see how many shots Whistler poached, even the slow-mos on the same zones. www.pinkbike.com/video/162149
