This past winter Anthill Films had the opportunity to work with Aaron Gwin while he was testing new Shimano Saint parts in Southern California. Over the course of the three-day shoot with Aaron we learned about the story of his rapid rise to the top of World Cup DH Racing.
For many fans of mountain bike racing Aaron Gwin has seemingly burst out of nowhere and taken a top spot amongst the elite in the World Cup DH community. His short, yet extremely successful mountain bike career appears in total contrast to the conventions for success in downhill racing. What usually takes years of practice and experience has happened so quickly people are asking, “What’s his secret?”
The short answer is that there is no secret. The downhill mountain bike has proven to be the ideal platform for Gwin. A perfect blend of the two former disciplines he raced for many years, BMX and motocross. Aaron follows a well-developed race program that focuses on keeping his mind fresh throughout the rigors of training, travel and the race week all season long. This program has been with him for quite some time and it’s peaking right now.
There are no shortcuts to success. Aaron Gwin knows this very well and that is why he is and will continue to be a top rider on the World Cup DH circuit for seasons to come.
