Anthill Films is excited to follow up the announcement of their upcoming mountain bike film, Strength in Numbers, with the confirmed rider list for the film. Strength in Numbers will feature a diverse selection of riders with some of the biggest names in the sport, including: Andrew Shandro, Brandon Semenuk, Cam McCaul, Danny Macaskill, Gee Atherton, Graham Aggasiz, Matt Hunter, Rene Wildhaber and Thomas Vanderham. Strength in Numbers will have a mix of established pros, up and comers and local riders, with Adam Billinghurst, Darren Berrecloth, Rachel Atherton, Ryan Howard and Steve Smith also appearing in the film.

Strength in Numbers will visually explore mountain bike culture, by documenting rider experiences in different bike communities all over the world. Following the community-based concept – the film will become a shared experience for all mountain bikers. In addition to a world premiere tour, limited edition DVD/BluRay and digital download, Strength in Numbers will be streamed online for free. The riders are stoked about the potential this represents, including Danny Macaskill, who will be working with Anthill for the first time. “I am really excited to be part of this film”, says Macaskill. “I have been watching the Anthill crew’s films for years, seeing a lot of the world’s top riders fly down trails that I could only dream of riding, captured in a way that only Anthill can produce. To be in a film with all these top riders is fairly mind blowing, it really is the next big step for me.”

Mountain biking has become a truly global sport. The Anthill crew will set out to capture the different places and ways mountain biking has grown, with film shoots planned in British Columbia, Nepal, Scotland, Austria, Verbier, California, Utah and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park. For the crew and riders, Strength in Numbers represents a way to give back to the sport. "It’s especially cool that this film is community based”, says Brandon Semenuk, “because you usually experience these cultures and get helping hands from the people within them while trying to put a segment together. But they never get the credit they deserve. I think this film will show how important mountain bike active communities are for the growth and progression of our sport"

Working with the Red Bull Media House, Strength in Numbers will be presented by Shimano and Trek, in association with Contour HD, Clif Bar, PinkBike and PRO Components. This is Anthill’s most ambitious project to date and it would not have been possible without brands who have a true commitment to mountain biking, not just as a sport but as a lifestyle and culture. "At Trek, we don't take on small projects”, says Michael Browne Global Brand Manager for Trek. “We look for partners like Anthill who can take big ideas and create meaningful projects to get people on their mountain bikes more often. With their trademark cinematic style and compelling narrative voice, we're excited to help bring Anthill's big idea to computers, smartphones, TVs and theaters around the world."

Anthill will be partnering with the Red Bull Media House to help produce the film, a relationship that will also see the film premiered on Red Bull’s digital channels during 2012. “The Red Bull Media House has a proven record of creating amazing film projects that reach millions of people and we are super excited to work with them to help bring the crew’s vision for Strength in Numbers to the world”, says Ian Dunn, Producer/Marketing Director for Anthill Films.

Peatys not with Red Bull any more, hes with Monster now. Maybe thats why he is not in it??
  • 3 2
ah right, thats a shame realy, as it would be good to see him in a recent film before he retires!
  • 8 0
no sign of him retiring for a while yet!

 hopefuly not !!

Don't flame on the whole 'sponsor' thing it's the only reason the filmmakers are able to make anything on a shoestring budget (and STILL manage to knock our socks off).

Can't wait for this one, just like the many others they and other filmmakers have made.

aggy rides for monster and not redbull so im sure it has nothing to do with that..
  • 3 2
Berrecloth just tweeted that he broke 3 vertebrae in his back today trying a frontflip, hopefully he can recover and still have a seggy!

yeah Shandro! good to see the old broke back on the bike and in front of the lens! but it seems like you can't have a bike movie without Matt Hunter or Brandon Semenuk these days. I love them both but Brandon gets a bit boring with the same old tricks. Matt Hunter on the other hand always brings something new to the table.

haha, i cant believe you get so excited about Shandro, and dismiss Semenuk and Hunter. this movie would be top notch without Shandro

Superdanu, learn to appreciate one of the godfathers of mountain biking and what he did for the sport. Shandro was ripping trail before semenuk was even born.
  • 4 0
couldn't agree more eleventyfive and now he teaches the sport... legend, imagine if him and Randy Spangler had a section, he used to slay a vp...
  • 3 0
I agree its sick to see Shandro in this but i could never get bored of watching Semenuk ride
  • 6 0
How could someone (superdanu) say something like that about one of the influential riders known to the freeride world? Shandro is like the Godfather to this sport. If Shandro had guns, he'd probably order Semenuk and Hunter to dispose of superdanu..

bbhahahahah, sure. i'm not dismissing what Shandro did for this sport. i simply think that this video might be better (more entertaining) without him in the lineup...so all y'all, take it easy!
  • 8 0
did you not see his part in seasons? one of my favorites and that trail was amazing. im glad he's back
  • 4 0
I'm not saying Brandon is a bad rider. its just since he rode at Red Bull Rampage in 2008, he has always been everywhere in the MTB scene. every movie. i suppose i am just going through a phase where im just a little bit sick of seeing him and his fucking perfect hair. in a few months ill probably be having a marathon of all his sick videos. but at the moment i really just want to see Andrew Shandro Shred his Downhill bike again, because i think he section in Seasons was one of the best. but its hard to judge because the whole movie is so damn great!

Isn't it a little overkill to start promoting a new bike movie before the filming has even begun?
It's coming out in a year it IS too early to start promoting it already. All that leads to is that everybody's expectations rises soo high that many people think the film wasn't that good when they see it.
  • 3 4
look at what happened to life cycles
  • 5 0
i think life cycles is sick !!!!!

Am I the only one who's not terribly excited here? I don't want to be negative, because I really do want to support the bike film industry. However, it seems to me that the Anthill productions stuff is really over-promoted. My goodness, the last time around, with Follow Me, it seemed that there was some new promotion of almost every day on pinkbike (okay, I might be exaggerating, but you get the point), and then, when the film was finally released, it was, in my own personal opinion, a bit of a dud.
  • 8 1
 • follow me was far from a dud...
• anthill/collective are still my favourite bike film makers at the moment
• the movies gonna be free!
  • 4 1
Well, everyone's going to have their own opinion about the movie, but that's not really my point. My point was just that the level of promotion was excessive. I mean, good on them (Anthill) for implementing an aggressive marketing campaign, and generating excitement for their product, but there's a fine line when the promotion can become too much, and the consumer can just get sick of hearing about it.
  • 7 1
Stever, I agree completely. I'm not a fan of promoting a movie so far in advance. It creates too much hype. Then when it gets here your expectations are so high it never lives up. I liked follow me, but I found by the time it was released I didn't care anymore.

This movie is not out for another year. Much like follow me it'll have 5-10 different trailers, and a 2-3 minute rider profile video for every rider in the movie. If you watch them all, you'll nearly see the whole movie by the time of it's release. Just like you, trying not to be negative, but it's just over kill. Announce the riders like a month before, not a year. I'm going to try to ignore all the posts about the movie that will be put up every week, so when it comes out the whole movie will be a surprise and seem "new"

Now that being said, it's cool that it'll be free!

I have to agree with both comnments above me, but I will try and stay positive about this film until it releases. Hopefully they will focus on the riding and not other stuff like trees, clouds, dirt and the list goes on. My main gripe with Follow me was that there was way too much dirt jump stuff in it and not enough trail riding, the section with Sam Hill was awesome and it left me wishing that the whole movie had been like that.
  • 1 2
With regards to a bike movie being a dud IMO Life Cycles was a just ok not mindblowing. Yeah the storytelling was good but there wasn't enough riding there. While watching it I was waiting for more riding parts since the riding was good but I was disappointed to see it ended too soon.

Vildhaber, vill you go full gaas?
  • 7 1
I hope it's released before the world ends ( joke )

the community idea is going to make this great. I hope they do part of the Cali segment in Truckee there is soo much epic riding, and the mountain biking community is super rich, so it would be cool to see it in the film
  • 2 0
It wold be good if they could have a section in the movie with old riders and how they are riding now... Like Tippee. Spangler, Palmer etc. Also have the likes of Hill, Brendog hitting the lines and jumps.
