The Post Office dirt jumps are built on a private lot at the corner of Trout Gulch Rd and Cathedral Dr in Aptos, California about fifteen minutes south of Santa Cruz down Highway 1. The lot the jumps are built on has a slight slope to it and there is only one tree. The lot is leased to the town and the jumps are public and legal. The jumps are called Post Office because the Post Office is directly across the street from the lot and at the time that name made sense to the kids that began riding and building there. Those kids have grown up and are now known as the Aptos Crew led by Cam McCaul and Greg Watts.

Regarded as some of the best jumps to be found in North America, people travel from all over the world to ride Post Office. A statement of fact that only sounds far fetched to those who do not dirt jump. The take offs are steep and appear to be vertical making the first drop in at Post Office an intimidating experience for any rider. Riders love these jumps because once the lines are learned they flow and ride perfectly.

The jumps in their current state are the result of ten years hard effort. The first place Watts will take you when you arrive to ride at Post Office is to the hardware store to buy a shovel. It is friendly reminder that you get back what you put in at Post Office. This is a common sentiment in many dirt jump communities and a commanding belief held by all the local riders in the Aptos Crew.

The perfect balance of speed and amplitude is the magic of what is goes on at Post Office. The lines are built so that the skill of the rider is the only variable in this equation. A perfect take off provides the perfect opportunity for the perfect trick. And a perfect landing leads to the next opportunity. These jumps are sculptures with more purpose than just to be looked at. They do what they were designed and built to do. If you ride the line clean, the jumps will reward you with the opportunity to fly.

The Post Office jumps in Aptos are a beautiful thing. A vacant lot that brought strangers together to become best friends. Jumping bikes for fun that nurtured a hard work ethic and built livelihoods. A crew of mountain bikers brought together based on a common focus of riding bikes they way they like to.

The Aptos Crew began with a piece of land and a few piles of dirt. But what exists today does so regardless of land. Post Office has always existed on borrowed time. It has always been known by all in the crew that one day the lease may not be renewed. Though their land is not permanent the strength of their crew is, and that is a story we can all learn from.

This right here is true to a lot of us who are into biking. I think this couldn't have been said better... Simple, raw and emotional:

"This has been people's lives, this little lot. This is where we met our closest friends. This is where we found our purpose..." - Cam McCaul about Post Office, Aptos, CA

This teaser is filled with emotions and banger riding... really loving the narrative by the riders and the dirt jump riding is amazing! Hoping that the video will stay on this course! Big-ups to Anthill Films and Red Bull House Media! ♥

Looks like it will be another quality film. What I don't understand though is that Redbull and other huge companies are now aware of the problems facing the Post Office spot, with the money they splash on contests all around the world, could they not buy the spot themselves and keep it secure for the future. The positive publicity they would recieve would be huge, not only for doing "their bit", but by putting up a few banners here and there, think how many edits are made at Post Office...

Unfortunately I am willing to bet that it has to do with insurance and liability laws in the US of A. The minute some grom (or adult, doesn't matter) goes down there, belly full of sweet, intoxicating Red Bull swill, stoked to get his jump on, goes and gets a mouthful of Aptos dirt and gets injured, the place will be closed faster than Gwin on a Session. No sponsor will sign on to the place because it is a giant risk. Sucks, but it's gotta be the reason.

Could be, sngltrkmnd, but there could be laws that would protect the companies from being sued if someone got hurt while riding there. Such a law exists in Utah. It will just take a dedicated team of people to dig up that law in California, if it exsists.

flag paulclarke (Aug 11, 2011 at 21:59)
Ya but even with those laws you can still always sue someone or a company. Don't matter. Sounds like the right reason even if it is a sad reality of the 21st cent. Although in Canada you can kill someone and be out within a couple of years..... hmmm...

Man, I can relate to this teaser. There was a spot near my place that I started building stuff to ride on 7 years ago. I grew a ton as a rider there. The neighbors were cool with it, as was the land owner. It was my place to progress as a rider and a builder. Then one day a few months ago, the land was sold, and the dozers came in. Now the magic that was my "compound" is gone.

The land is owned by Berry Swenson Builders and we've only got a year left on the lot. It's not because of insurance, but because Aptos Village is being developed. We gotta find another place to get our groove on, and soon. I'd love to see big sponsors like Red Bull, or even Santa Cruz Bicycles donate some cash to secure a permanent dirt-jump park in Santa Cruz County.

Film looks great--can't wait to see it--wish they'd highlighted some of the local female talent, too...

I road there two weeks ago! That Train was possibly the most epic set of riders and tricks in a row I can image! Unless they all threw backflip 720 super mans, we can wish rightSmile I just Got so excited i don't think I can sleep. If i didn't have work tomorrow and the car I would take the day to drive down and sesh those perfect jumps; hopefully be a part of some filming! haha So SICK!!
