‘Ard Rock Enduro 2014

Jan 23, 2014
by prorideguides
The UK's premier all natural Enduro and All Mountain Sportive returns on August 2nd and 3rd 2014, Swaledale, North Yorkshire.

Promising to be even tougher, the exclusive route will take in 100% natural rocky descents incorporated into a big day out in the Dales. One off access to private land means 'Ard Rock Enduro takes in gnarly, rock strewn terrain only rideable on the day!

As they say up Dale, this in't no trail centre, it’s the centre of the trails.

The rally-style special segments will be incorporated into an amazing 40km+ (in country miles!) loop of the Scott Trial motor cycle territory around Reeth. Entrants also get the chance to tackle the whole course against the clock in a one hot lap 'sportive' format at a reduced entry fee.

This scenic area boasts not only Lake District style descending and 500m hills, but we're using the legacy of the industrial scarring of lead mining in the 'Dale to throw in some scree and loose rock riding that's hard to find anywhere else in the UK. There's zero trail centre kitty litter or man made berms in 'Ard Rock, just ancient trails and paths with loose, steep and technical riding under your wheels in places.

'Ard Rock Enduro's event village will be based at the beautiful Dales Bike Centre, with its on site cafe and bike shop. Superb, level camping facilities and parking for 500 hundred competitors is right next door by the River Swale in Fremington. 'Ard Rock Enduro is aimed squarely at offering maximum good times, so there will be beers and a BBQ again.

The clearly marked course is fully rideable, although the terrain will offer a challenging mixture of flat out fast gulleys and off road tracks, steep rocky chutes and technical moorland singletrack that demands skill, technical ability and superb fitness to race at speed against the clock.

Whether you want to go flat out for glory or enjoy an amazing chilled weekend riding with your mates in mid summer, for all riders it's a chance to ride amazing exclusive trails in great company and enjoy the atmosphere of the Yorkshire Dales.

Here's Alex and Joe Rafferty from Pro Ride Guides riding Swaledale before last years event. This is the beautiful landscape that hundreds of thousands of spectators will visit in July to watch stage one of the Tour De France.

"Sportive" should never be used to describe All Mountain or Enduro! Looks good though Wink

What standard of riding is acceptable to give this a decent go? I happily ride reds at Llandegla and Gisburn - Will I die?

 I was just thinking the same…… :-)

Nah you'll be fine. You don't have to 'race' there's the sportive where you ride all the special stages anyway just not timed on them. You could treat it just like a great day out riding with ya mates. I had a mare on two of the stages but still had an awesome time (even with the mental wind!)

You'll be able to get around without much trouble - just make sure you're on your toes! If you don't like rocks then give it a miss.

Entered as my only "race" this year.. really looking forward to it!

The format is a lot more relaxed compared to the UKGE (for example), being able to ride with your mates at your own pace between the stages.. perfect.. the "sportive" is for those who want to race around the whole 40km+ loop, not just the "gravity" assisted stages like me as i'm built for gravity assistance! Wink hahaha
