The 2012 route offers the same smorgasbord of great venues as last year, but will see an all new Day 7 in Whistler and some additions and tweaks to the other six days. “We never rest on our laurels, having our course designers who are core mountain bikers and trail builders means new trails are added every year”, said president Dean Payne. In addition to Whistler, participants will experience amazing singletrack in the communities of Cumberland, Campbell River, Powell River, Sechelt, and Squamish.

Now with the addition of two timed sections for the first six days, BCBR boasts twelve Enduro-style sections. Last year, in a continual pursuit to evolve the event, BC Bike Race included two days with two separate timed sections per day. The “Race within the Race” was launched, tried and true to ensure that the expanded timed sections in 2012 would be a success.

Gravity legend Brian Lopes rode the BC Bike Race 2011 edition, won a couple of the Enduro timed sections and capped of his amazing week with an awesome athletic performance by hitting the podium on the final day in Whistler. Lopes shared his perspective post-race:

"BC bike race was one of the most fun events I have ever done. Every day we were treated to some of the best trails in the world, trails I would have never experienced if it weren't for the BC Bike Race. The race was really one against myself most of the time, but with a few timed downhill sections thrown in I knew I had a chance of actually getting some results there. Like all top road stage races, there are categories for those with different skills and it was great to see the BC Bike race organizers throw in some contests for those with exceptional DH skills."

BC Bike Race organizers’ goal is for everyone to have the best time possible shredding the amazing singletrack that is on offer. “People have different styles, so we want to ensure that everyone has a chance to showcase their unique skill sets” said course director Andreas Hestler. “Enduro racing essentially means that riders instead of pinning it all day will be able to ride around the body of the course and really focus in on a few very fast moments”.

The ‘Challenge’ course is also undergoing some changes, and with a growing number of participants the BCBR team is working hard to make all events as rider friendly as possible. Both courses will see adjustment to ensure less merging of the Challenge and Epic groups, keeping the rider’s experience in mind.

The event has only 20 spots remaining and will shortly be ‘Sold Out’. This year as last year BCBR will have only 500 coveted spots available, so plan for the vacation of a life, come join us for 2012.

 'Pinkbike.com was cleverly deviced by a number of things. In its early years, Pinkbike.com was a website ran out of the basement of a average household. How was the name thought up? After lots of thought about "extremebikeing.com" and "hardcorebiking.com", along with many other names, Pinkbike.com was thought up as a joke, and later, created into a world wide recognized website.'

 @Barbour,

Great reference! I first learned of Pinkbike from that very Ride Guide Episode, so many years ago. Up to that point, I only had nsmb on the radar. Back then, pinkbike was based out of Calgary AB. Once it moved to the lower mainland (Vancouver area), it was unstoppable.

 Ok quick story: I used to do "urban assault" downtown Calgary with a buddy, jumping off stairs and retaining walls and lipping off security guards etc. Anyways, we weren't the only ones out there. The was this tall dude on a blue XL bullit, a Newfoundlander on a yellow SC chameleon with dual crown fork, giro switchblade recording each other tossing themselves off of Ctrain platforms (flat to flat) and stair gaps at Eau Claire using a state of the art piece of kit called a "digital camera". They told us to check out the vids on a site called pinkbike.com. "pinkbike.....uhhhhh, ok". It wasn't until now that I asked the question. Why "pinkbike"? Thanks PInkbinke user group and thanks Pinkbike. You are number one. All others are number two or lower.

 Hey Guys,
Could you do me a huge favour and answer the five questions from the attached link? It is about a guided mountainbike tour to British Columbia in Canada! It is mainly a guided tour in British Columbia (riding single trails, visiting bikeparks, enjoying vancouver etc.) for europeen clients to Canada (Vancouver). We want to offer those trips due to the amazing shape and landscape of BC as can be seen in the above posted article Smile
