haha you know hes good when hes hitting 30-40 foot gaps and talking everyone through it without a stutter Razz
  • + 59
His "Nice little drop" made me laugh. Well, it's a nice drop, but im not sure about the size. Razz
  • + 10
It all looks so much smaller from the GoPro perspective than it does in the pics in the other articles. It's weird. Even the air time seems comparable to what it FEELS like when I'm riding. I know it isn't since all of those hits are like 3X (or more) bigger than most of my stuff. It really says a lot about the speed ...dude is flying, despite the "Grab a quick brake!" after the first drop.

Insane course, realy smoth with big jumps! Posted
  • + 14
If i were doing this it would sound like this: hit jump: big inhale. mid air: shit Land: bail. . lol
  • + 4
I'd sh*t my 4 times while being on the "skinny" (I'm assuming) 20ft+ high north shore (the falls will be epic), and the only noise I'd be able to make on these 40 footers would be a scream of fear and death. I'm stoked
  • + 1
that northshore is mad, wouldnt like to fall off it thats for sure....thing is with north shore, whether its 3 ft high or 30ft high, its all the same, just looks alot scarier when higher. great course though, cant wait to watch it Big Grin
  • + 15
Next person to call a skinny or ladder bridge 'north shore' is getting nasty hate mail from me.

FFS the North Shore is a region of Vancouver BC where the mountains are, it's not a style of riding.
You don't see people going around saying Macaskill rides Berlin style or cam mccaul shreds epic seattle. Facepalm
  • + 3
@Unhallowed I ride some steezy Northeastern US all the time..
  • + 2
 its true seattle is epic
  • + 1
Unhallowed, I'm not even from Canada and I totally agree with you. It seems to be a Euro thing?
  • + 2
I do gnarly Wenatchee National Forest turnbars
  • + 1
 @Sentinel13
I know what you mean. When you look at a jump, you think "That's big!" Because you often don't consider how fast you'll go over it and how big you and your bike are. It looks sick though! I'd ride that all day...
  • + 1
Is possible to watch it live online?
  • + 2
Unhallowed - deal with it. It may not be technically correct to call it any ladder bridge 'north shore' but that's what a lot of the mountain biking community refer to it as. Just as people may call all vacuum cleaners a 'hoover' even if not made by the Hoover brand or calling a biro pen a 'bic'.
  • - 2
My backyard drop is almost as big as the first one. Its got north shore style Smile
  • + 6
DD, So you promote ignorance stupidity and laziness?
  • - 1
It's the first time I hear that "north shore" is not the propper term. It must be a Euro thing. I never even hear about "skinny" or "ladder bridge". I don't think it will be possible to change the habit of calling a ladder bridge a north shore...
  • + 6
You sir, would fall under the ignorant category. I'm assuming English is not your first language, which is fine.
  • + 3
 I love this website
  • - 1
It's hardly doing any harm if people choose to call it that. Some people may actually be proud that the place where they come from developed a type of riding that spread across the world and is now being referred to by that name. Not you though, too busy hatin'.
  • + 1
@Rolino - Sorry man. Was trying to give positive props but the damn iPad window didn't expand and hit the neg by accident. Good comments mate. Smile
  • + 3
And it wouldn't do any harm if I wiped my arse in public. But I'm sure it would bother some people aye?
  • + 0
@ stinkysam its ovbious not the same if its 3ft high or 30 ft high there is a 27ft differenance! and its not the same cause the 3ft one would not be scary at all and the 30ft one would make me shit my pants! they are pretty different
  • + 0
yeah, thats what i mean, it would be exactly the same difficulty, just the 30ft high one is alot more scary
  • - 1
@unhallowed Macaskill is from Scotland... Berlin is in Germany..
  • - 2
And just to say, everyone i know calls it northshore, most people in Britain do, so it must just be you guys who call it skinnys
  • + 2
Yeah, it must just be the guys who invented it that call it the right thing...............Just know that when you call in "northshore" in the lift line at whistler, that we are all laughing at you. Smile
  • + 0
JFTrials, I never said he was from berlin, just as mccaul isn't from seattle. I used the first 2 well known cities that popped into my head.
  • + 1
type into google images, 'northshore mtb' and look at the results,
  • + 1
And then look at the locations. You are wrong get over it.
  • + 0
no noe is wrong, just we have different names, over here we call it northshore, even in the mountain biking uk magazine they call it northshore
  • + 1
[insert highly racist comment about brits here].

Betch
  • + 0
not bothered, yous call it what yous like, calling it a skinny or ladder bridge sounds G*y.......northshore shouds much better and im sure everyone in europe would agree with me here
  • + 1
Unhallowed, it aint ignorance, it's the fact that people call things differently in different parts of the world. Ignorance is not tolerating it
  • + 2
No, ignorance is being told what the CORRECT term for it is, and still refusing to use it.
  • + 2
Actually... Ignorance is a state of being uninformed (lack of knowledge). The word "ignorant" is an adjective describing a person in the state of being unaware and is often used as an insult.
  • + 1
Unhallowed... it's pretty clear that facts are not an important aspect of this conversation. I'd say give up on these children and let them call things that they would never have the balls to ride whatever they want.... From now on I am going to refer to skinnys and ladders as napalm and cheeseburgers respectively.

2nd big booter "How You Doing?" hahaha the Claw is a Legend!
  • + 7
 ahahahaha so funny!
  • + 5
 Absolute LAD
  • + 4
This is the kind of freeride course you could see more from slopestyle events back in the day but this one is much better and this is the kind of courses slopestyle events should look like. Not just a bounch of jumps like it was a dirtjump contest. Awesome!
  • + 4
i have a feeling that some of the younger kids in this are gonna have some slip up on the first step on with the skinnies. thats old school stuff that the older guys rode on back in the day
[Reply]
  • + 34

[Reply]
  • + 8
Damn, that step-up looks a bit challenging to say the least...
  • + 6
did he clear the drop after it? Kinda looked like (and I'm most likely wrong) he clipped the back wheel on the lip? Who am I to comment anyway, I cant ride for shit compared to the claw! Awesome course
  • + 2
If you listen to Darren's comments as he's riding you'll hear, "Going way too slow off of this drop." Yeah, I'd say he clipped it, but the fact that he saw it coming and still powered through the next two booters tells all you need to know about Bearclaw style!
[Reply]
  • + 5
the squirrel catcher skinnies at the start are going to ensure this is a MOUNTAIN BIKE slopestyle event and not just a glorified BMX DJ contest on 26" wheels

Quite a scary start haha. skinny at sppeeeedd. love how he tabled everything
