Chatel Mountain Style - 2011 Recap
Jul 6, 2012
Unfortunately the weather hasn't been playing nice on the Swiss/French border. Last night's thunderstorms were pretty heavy, and the rain carried on most of the way through the night... So the course has been closed for most of the days and very little got thrown down because conditions were so shady. So, instead here's a recap of the 2011 event, courtesy of Will Walker.
The course started with this burly 11m drop, that scared more than a few people - they even went to the lengths of providing some toilet paper at the top, just in case... Kyle Strait wasn't scared though - here he is sending it. |
Just off the top, this sender into a nice, long landing gave riders a chance to show off their style - here's a few options. First up, Kurt Sorge on a flip no-hander. |
Cam Zink with a flip nac |
Kyle Strait with a superseater. |
Finally, Andrea Lacondeguy, simply with style. |
Brandon Semenuk took one of the lines further out to the right and tricked the hell out of it. Because the line wasn't considered that tough, he found himself lower down the podium than he would have wanted to be. |
After the first section, it's all about charging down the mountain as hard as you dare. Again, Kyle Strait going hard. |
While this jump and stepdown into the finish area are still here this year, unfortunately Amir Kabbani won't be. Here he is with a big, stylish x-up. |
Cam Zink flipping into the finish area on his way to the win. |
That's where everyone will be looking to be standing come the end of this weekend. |
Going big = big money. |
A big thanks to Will Walker for the photos. The weather forecasts for tomorrow and Sunday are mixed, so as soon there's a gap in the weather everyone is going to go hard and get points down in case in closes back in again...
