Trail Ninja Dan Milner pedals his bike halfway across the world to the birthplace of klunkers, legends, single track and mountain biking itself. So where do the Speedos fit in?
There's many more places and trails to ride in Marin County than China Camp and Tamarancho, legal and otherwise. But it's true about miles and miles of perfect roping single track that is illegal to bikes. Props to Tamarancho for building it's new Flow Trail!! They did a great job!! vimeo.com/m/63865304
That one shot of the berms was of the soon to be finished flow trail in tamarancho. The trail is modeled like a down hill pump track and should be pretty bitchin.
Tell us a tale O brave knights of dirt riding. Teach us how to pedal these wacky contraptions thru the mountains. It seems crazy to ride a mountain bike in the mountain. Please can I getta bredog tail poke yaboeee hollaration broby. Propies time sistas.
Ill build with ya. I don't think being stoned has much to do with it. I think it has to do with the ridiculous fines that are issued for riding single track. I know it discourages me from building, because I know trail building is an even bigger fine.
So crazy the the birthplace of mountain biking is one of the most restricted mountain biking areas.
Coastal, tamorancho, and china camp. We need more space. This is why we have to become trail bandits and 'Poach' single track or night ride/hide.
There are lots of other places to ride, but they are "super secret" again because of fear I think. fear of getting caught on illegal trail and free that every rider and there bro is going to show up and crush your personal record on it.
I have about 1000lb of logs that me and my friend cut. They are sitting on a fire road in Santa venitia/china camp. He isnt able to help anymore so If any of yous guys wanna build a big ol' booter than add and message me.
It's kind of sad that he says that china camp and tamarancho are the best places to ride in Marin.
We have Annandale and many other great spots that are filled with single track.
Upsetting really.
YES so glad to get Marin the attention it deserves. With the Tamarancho flow trail in place and more exposure like this we may get the awesome riding the birthplace of mountain biking deserves!
Im in shock, the 14 yr old behind the counter talking about back in the day can see into the future. Ill have some XT pads please, yes I know, here you go.
Biking off-road became practical with chain-drive safety bicycle with pneumatic tires - 1887. But modern mountain bike and MTB as a sport is indeed from Northern California.
Dont get mad that Marin county is the birthplace of mountain biking and that its a widely known fact. I am proud to call Marin my home. Just be proud of Justin Bieber, no one can take that away from you.
Mountain biking was "born" in 1896 in Missoula, MT... Marin is just where a bunch of counter-culture cyclists made it famous by racing down hills for bags of weed.
LMAO... Do I give a f*ck if a 13 year-old asked? Morons like you might be happy to go along with incorrect information and assume mountain biking began in the 70's in Marin... others might actually be interested in the reality that it was around for almost 100 years before that. If more of you adolescent dickweeds actually cared about facts we'd all be better off....
I'd say racing was born in Marin and freeride was born on the shore, but if you really want to go back that far mountain biking should be born in cyclocross, early 1900s I think?
1896... the Buffalo Soldiers. An Army infantry division utilized mountain bikes for transport. 1900 miles in a month which, for the time, was like twice as fast as foot or cavalry. Then came motorized transports and it disappeared only to be rediscovered by the 'klunkerz' gang.
just thought of something, biking was originally on dirt road/cobblestones and up mountains so as long as biking was around so was mountain biking so it really depends on what you define as mountain biking
So crazy the the birthplace of mountain biking is one of the most restricted mountain biking areas.
