who else thinks it should be possible to BUY replica jerseys? those of us that follow WC and World Champs and would rather buy a Steve Smith or Sam Hill (those that prefer freeride could get the limited edition Semenuk) jersey then a Crosby or Ovechkin jersey. i seriously think apparel companies are missing out on this additional revenue. Troy Lee, Fox, One, Royal, listen to the fans!!!

I don't think it's lame, I think it would help professional biking grow in popularity for sure. Right now there is little room for fans to engage, very little telecast, this and other team apparel could give fans a way to interact.

flag duthiehillrider (Oct 23, 2012 at 23:56)
Yeah, it's just like buying your favorite football or basketball players jersey. There's no harm in it and its a great source of revenue for the companies and helps fans become even more engaged in the sport.

flag cuban-b (Oct 24, 2012 at 0:04)
+1 to that. You already see people buying kits that resemble pro team kits. And in road biking, buying team kits is hugely popular. Not that we should ever emulate the roadie style of apparel, but it's a proven model.

go ahead and neg prop me, but im kinda agreeing with Adam, MTB is a sport not many people do. I dont really like the fact of doing the same things as football, hockey and stuff. I think more little kids would buy these jerseys with pro names on them than people who acually ride. And besides, some pros already have their names on stuff like t shirts, jeans, components and frames. Were already thinking outside the box, no need to step into what other sports do and be all mainstream
  • + 2
flag epavichthesavage Plus (Oct 29, 2012 at 18:47)
 eehh
I'm not going to lie, I agree with Adam. I respect these guys and what they do.... but that's stepping into the realm of hero worship. It's like those kids that play hockey wearing a Sydney Crosby jersey, name and everything. It would be kind of silly to bike around with a jersey that says "SAM HILL" on the back when you're just some average joe. I can somewhat understand team sports, but come on. This is mountain biking. We've got to have some sort of individuality here.
  • - 1
flag adamlaycock (Oct 29, 2012 at 19:24)
yaaay out of -92 props, I found people who think the biking industry is a one of a kind industry and doesn't have to follow other industries. There would be so many little kids buying it being big posers.. plus, you go to one event like crankworx, and the pros are all around you. In like hockey or football, they're like squished into their rooms, through a hall, and directly to the playing field. Biking, its so chill that you can just go up to a pro and have a full on conversation with the pros.. way different industries that should never be compared.

  • + 6
flag utopic (Oct 30, 2012 at 8:37)
based on the large number of people who would want to buy a limited/special/ team version of pro kit, it would probably be a good thing for the companies to offer such kit.

Would I buy such kit? No.

Would I wear such kit? Probably, if it was free.

As it is, I try and stay away form any form of kit that has large logos or names , be it team sponsors' or manufacturer's. If I'm already paying for it, why would I also want to be a walking advertisement for them?

Is Monster sponsoring me? Why the hell would I want their name on my shirt?!!?

As for having a pro's name on my back... come on! If I would think of myself as worthy, maybe I'd have my name, but somebody else's? Why? I look up to them, but I don't have their skill or their name.

I'd rather splash paint on my shirt and have a one-of-a-kind shirt than copy all the others out there.

Start being original.

I would never buy a shirt with someone else's name on it. They could make an option to have your own name on it though, that would be cool. Why would anyone spend a load of cash to have someone else's name on their back? What's wrong with you? Try to get your own name on your back through effort an results and I applaud you. Buy someone else's shirt... leave me out.

I just read Arnold's book. If there's one underlying theme it is reach for the sky. Aim high my friends. Don't offer to buy a shirt with someone else's name on it. Work hard and have them buying your bikes instead.

well you already are supporting some body else's, in buying bikes and gear etc. I think your missing the point here, this would be a way to expres your favorite rider but also have a jersey that you could shred in. not something you would just buy and never use (altho some may do that)

I just don't see the point. It smells of fanboi to me.

I think there is a definite gap in the market to have your own name put on a shirt though. I'd pay an extra tenner for that, as long as it looked good (not like those half arsed premier league iron-on transfers they have on footy shirts).
