Stevie Smith, bringing it home for the win!

bigquotesIt was fast and dusty but I prefer it that way. It's pretty exciting to win both the Garbanzo Downhill and the Air Downhill as I haven't won either of these events before. - Steve Smith

Micayla Gatto missed this scrub but there are a helluva lotta scrubs on A-Line and she seems to have made most of the rest coming home second only to Emmeline Ragot reigning DH World Champ by .86 seconds.

Midway down the track it s getting harder and harder to keep it low and fast Sidney Slotegraaf getting sideways here and keeping it pretty low but likely at this point he s just wishing it was over.

A Line was dusty. Shoot--the whole mountain is dusty. Goggles are pretty much mandatory for flying the friendly skies of A-Line and the Whistler Bike Park as a whole.

Nick Beer looking to be on target for A ... but he was hauling the mail so maybe flat . But winning was definitely Devinci teammate Steve Smith.

Brook Macdonald doing his best to land perpendicular to his direction of travel. I have absolutely no idea how Bulldog pulled this out but pull it out he did.

Shutting the front door in fine style...Steve Smith. And yeah he landed past winning on the backside of this hit.

Speaking of the Boneyard... It s been hungry so far in training. Sorge and Andreu were two top riders that slapped hard today. Bumps and bruises only but training for the Joyide is anything but easy.

By the end of training a few riders were starting to throw down but most riders have been keeping it pretty mellow. There were a few spins a few tailwhips but mostly it was just straight airs. This was one of only two inverts Pinkbike shooters spotted today.

Semenuk cracking a table at the end of training. The local kid has been on another level all year. So far he s been quiet in training but he s never one to put all his cards on the table until he needs to. And since he s guaranteed to be in the big dance on Saturday getting his timing in the air dialed and developing a rhythm in the boneyard is his primary focus until it s time to get rowdy.

I wish the coverage had been like it usually is with DH. Would have loved to have seen some of the top sections..!

Yeah. I LOVE that Pinkbike is broadcasting all these events, but this one was a bummer. I know they can't cover the whole trail, but to show only four shots, three of which are the most uninteresting sections on A-line, is a bit sad. I bailed after about five minutes.

And Si...maybe just a little less monotone from time to time? Wink

I think Claire would have def got 2nd, if not 1st, if the spectator hadn't run in front of her!
  • 1 0
For sure. I was at the line and you could clearly see Claire braking to avoid hitting that dumb-ass chick that ran across the course.

Lopes the fastest 40 year old, still so freaking fast. 3.75 seconds and 17 years separate him and Steve, but I hope Steve wins the Hafjell, Norway World Cup.

Smith is on a tear! Hope he continues to win like this and takes the Canadian open.
