Jill Kintner (USA) has taken her fourth consecutive win at Crankworx Whistler in the Ultimate Pumptrack Challenge, presented by RockShox. It was a night of upsets, airs, crashes and some of the best riders in the world duking it out for glory during Crankworx Whistler’s 10th Anniversary. Expectations were high for Mitch Ropelato (USA) to earn his own four-peat, but these hopes were dashed when Martin Soderstrom prevailed in a semi-final battle that kept fans on their toes throughout Whistler Olympic Plaza. The men’s event was won by the flawless Adrien Loron (FRA).

D oh Mitch lost his fourpeat right here. A tiny mistake but just enough that he was edged out of the finals.

I love how Martin competes in multiple events and has a great time doing so. Good for me also since his riding is so damn awesome to watch!

It definitely looks like Martin has the most fun with everything, like yesterday doing best trick he was just linking stuff up, having fun, and practicing for Saturday.

 Men
1. Adrien Loron - $2,500
2. Martin Soderstrom - $1,500
3. Mitch Ropelato - $1,000

Women
1. Jill Kintner - $1,300
2. Caroline Buchanan - $800
3. Katy Curd - $600

The same trail and almost the same times (approx. 1 sec. difference).
Can anyone explain me twice smaller prizes for girls?
So far, I thought a few grands is a pocket charge for corporations like SRAM or Red Bull Rolleyes

A verry good question!!! I'm always asking this... Frown

As with many sports that have both female and male competitions, the prize purses are almost always in favor of male competitors (golf, tennis, snowboarding etc..). This is driven by fan base, popularity and the ability for those athletes to drive sponsorship dollars. It always has been the case, and will probably be so for a long time. Doesn't necessarily mean it's fair.

also probably more male competitors so tougher to get through rounds? just guessing

Why is this same comment on every prize purse picture?

This is actually a really great question! Why don't they just put the Men and the Women in the same category, and divide the entire prize purse among the top 5 racers overall? Putting everyone on the same playing field is unequivocally the most fair thing they could possibly do!

Because the men are still faster then the women but they should at least get the same prize money

Sport is dominated by men, men have more competition. Lets say there is top 50 men at national champs out of 1000 dh male riders in country but there is also top 50 women but only out of 100 dh female riders. even Rachel Atherton says in one interview for VitalMTB, that it's right this way, because it's still easier for girl to win world cup than for men. those are factual reasons but morals are kind of questionable...

its simple, the men events are more interesting and bring more revenue therefore their prizes are worth more...

You also have to factor in registration #'s and money paid. If 100 men register at $50 a piece, and 30 women register at $50 a piece, there is more money to distribute among the top men. This is a male dominated sport, and as stated previously, there is less competition for females.

I love how Martin is the same height as Adrien whilst standing one step down.

 Can the public ride this?

I don't so much have an issue with the Men's winner getting more than the Woman's, but the Woman's winner should still get more than the men's second place getter! Def something wrong with that picture, no wonder more women don't compete! In Tennis actually a few years back now Woman's prize money was granted the same purse as the men's, though I actually have issue with that since they only play 3 sets not 5 so for me they should get less for that, lest here they raced the same track same distance, really dosent matter who or who didn't show up in the field, you can only beat those who have the prawns to line up and compete!

was there a consensus that one side was faster than the other? seems like it would be hard to have both sides perfectly symmetric.
  • 4 0
Yes there was a consensus as such, but the time gaps were added from two runs (you had to ride both sides) to come up with the winners.
  • 1 0
every matchup raced twice on opposite sides

Derek Zoolander prefers to turn right...so you may be onto something there. I CALL SHENANIGANS!
  • 1 0
yes, the left seemed to run slightly faster

Simple....eliminate men's and women's divisions and make them compete against each other. That would be so rad!!!

I dont usually care for pump tracks but I really want to get on that one!
