Dual Slalom Finals With Paris Gore - Sea Otter 2013

Apr 21, 2013
by Paris Gore
One of the most anticipated events of the Sea Otter Classic, today was an exciting day, with Steve Peat finishing in second place against Jared Graves. Given his extensive background in 4x racing, it's no surprise that Jared won. Part of history in MTB with ol' Peaty coming back out of nowhere destroying the field. Jill Kintner was seconds ahead in the women's class just ahead of Rachel Atherton. With her first win of the season, it won't be the last...

Sam Hill

Cedric Gracia coming back from his huge injury from last season. Unfortunately getti ng taken out in just seconds here... We ll see him out on the DH track tomorrow doing what CG does best... pleasing the crowd.

Not Aaron Gwins day today. With a crash up top he seemed to be on his game but couldn t keep it together.

The American dream Mitch Ropelato technically took 4th but didn t take his last run. Due to the high heat and multiple runs Mitch came down with massive heat stroke and went to check in with the medics. His mom wouldn t said he couldn t race anymore.

I can just imagine it - "so Mitch Ropelato, pro mountain biker, why aren't you racing?" "My mum said I'm not allowed to."

You won't like it when she's angry.

  • 10 2

  • 16 3

  • 9 1
Need more full bike shots though.

What's with all this (Merica) crap with giving the finger bs. Why can't Americans get that's not kool. It's like a fat kid bully in the third grade. Can't stand it
  • 13 5
Cause I haven't seen the same thing in Crankworks photos? People are just screwing around.
  • 7 1
That guy was just angry because his Red Wings won't be making the playoffs.
  • 14 4
Australian 1st, England 2nd, New Zealand 3rd. Murica owned.

Sounds like someone got bullied in third grade. That must have been the only biking event you've ever followed.
  • 8 4
nope just cant stand losers! who think we give a shit about there (im soo cool) look at me bs!
  • 3 0
 I think it's stupid too...
  • 1 2
I didn't say it wasn't stupid. I'm saying it is not unique to "Mericans".

i was in the main group holding the flags... we cheered for everyone... not just americans. just glad to be at sea otter and support biking! such a fun event
  • 3 4
I just dunno why you need US flags to watch a bike race? Maybe if it was the Worlds or the Olympics but every other race is one of individuals, or at a push, teams. What the hell has a national flag got anything to do with it? It just makes you look like brain dead douche bags.
  • 5 0
you dont need flags to watch a race. n thats not the point. this was a bike event on US soil and some people believe it or not.. Love america. and i dont get what all this hating america shit has to do with anything... the rest of the world is where america gets its citizens. so if you guys hate america, you hate people in general. because people decide what america does. people that have come from every nook and cranny on this planet
  • 4 5
Who said (hate)??? Dislike the attitude that's displayed above (yes) believe me when I tell you NOBODY is jealous or wishes they where American. I know you all believe that. But it far from the truth. We are all glad we r not cause dumbass like above is representing your bleek future.
  • 3 2
Nobody wishes they were American... Until they move to America. Apparently jeff444 speaks for the world. That must be exhausting! Keep up the dislike lil brother.

 It's ohhh so easy

Paris, Paris, Paris! Please get your facts straight before you post information. I believe it was Mitch that beat Kyle Strait, not Peaty. Then the photo where your referencing Mitch doesn't even show him and lastly his mother wasn't even at the event.
  • 10 5
Apologies all. We do these posts at 3 in the morning for you guys to see. You have to understand that we can't get everything straight all the time...

You apologized two hours ago but haven't changed the article. Please edit the article so it no longer says he didn't race because of his Mommy, and then note the correction at the top of the article. In the future, you could avoid this situation by not printing things you haven't confirmed, or prefacing something you are not sure about with "Rumor on the hill was..."

I was under the assumption that the mother comment was a joke... Sarcasm?
  • 3 0
i really appreciate the photography in this article and the images represent the world class quality that pinkbike stands for. however, the writing and false facts negatively impact the article for me. if its late and the facts aren't clear or the words aren't flowing, just let the photos speak for themselves and save the writing for the journalists.
  • 1 3
And just in case you guys don't realize this, Rope54 is probably Mitch Ropelato, given that he knows where Mitch's Mom was on the day of the event, and the fact that his location is Ogden, Utah - the place Mitch lives now. If I wrote something false about an athlete and was corrected by him in the comments, I'd be ashamed, but Paris Gore seems to think spreading false information about people is no big deal.
  • 5 2
Really man? I had heard he had heat stroke and his mother was a bit concerned. I didn't run down to the bottom to go make sure his mom was "actually" there... just what the announcer said... I wouldn't intend to spread false information on purpose, I don't know who would...
  • 11 0
Rope54 is Mitch's dad and I love to read all the articles on Pinkbike they do a great job so that we as parents and fans can follow this great sport whereas we can't travel with them. Paris has done a good job reporting on Sea Otter this week and thank you, my concern was I had heard what the announcer were saying on the hill was everything from a mechanical to heat stroke however they're usually making assumptions also on the fly. I know that I would have a tough time keeping up with the facts at a large event like Sea Otter and I'm sure that it was not intentional. Thanks Again for your articles!

Ladies and gentlemen, let me add something regarding your culture and, to put it in words, bit of "egoistic chauvinism". USA is not America. USA is a country placed in America. America is a whole continent containing north and south America, and that means a lot of countries, not only the USA.
Please, consider that or read more history books.

is that shaun palmer in the third last picture with peaty?? what a shame that he is not out there for racing anymore.
hope to see a video coverage...dual and 4x are still one of the best spectators` raceformats IMO.
  • 1 0
Can we Please bring this event back to all major races including World Cups? UCI cannot say the crowd isn't into it. You can see the whole race, all those spectators buy food, beer, accommodations, etc
  • 3 0
The picture of Mitch is actually Luca Shaw!!
  • 2 0
So Jelly Paris. Take me with you guys to shoot the world cups. Seriously. Please.

 what happened to minnaar?
  • 1 0
If my memory of the video serves me correctly, he lost to Graves early. If you haven't liked him on facebook, you may also be interested to know that he felt like he was missing something after his first run yesterday with his Bronson (with Ardent rear and DHF front) and switched to his Blur TRc (with High Roller rear and DHF front).
