The Elements of Perfection video series went bigger and better this summer, and we saved the most exciting installment for last:

ELEVATION drops in at over 7000 feet, showcasing the Top of the World alpine trail on the Peak of Whistler Mountain.

For the first time ever, the Peak Chair on Whistler Mountain opened for mountain bikers this summer and made the dream of riding the alpine a reality. The Elements of Perfection team and riders went all out for the final video of the series and the result is as unique as the ride.

The only thing better than riding Top of the World is riding Top of the World with a heli chasing you.
The elevation opened new doors for filming and a heli was brought in for unique aerial coverage of the entire trail. Photo - Mark Mackay

Fall riding in Whistler is some of the best of the year and this year was nothing short. Day after day of clear skies and warm temperatures gave the crew ample opportunity to film when the light was at its best. Photo - Mark Mackay

Downtime antics
The first few days of filming weren't the greatest as clouds rolled late in the evenings. It a least allowed for some fun and creativity. Photo - Mark Mackay

Although Top of the World is now closed for the season as we wait for the snow to fly, there is no doubt that its return in 2013 will be even more anticipated than the last.

i like it how they are riding this trail on two totally different rigs. I guess it shows that this trail can be fun for everybody.

Nice vid and trail 'n all, but I hate the way that people smash berms as soon as a camera is pointed at them. And groms see this and think it's the way to ride. Smashing berms makes Baby Trailbuilder cry.
  • + 3
And then the berms have to get re-built with pavers and 3/4 minus all over the fricking place and you no longer even feel like you're trail riding, just cruising down a long gravelly BMX run.
  • + 3
Couldn't agree more - there needs to be a 'you smash em, you fix em' type of rule. Although in pausing it at 2:42 . . .it does look awesome!
  • + 3
Also, it's my understanding that you don't need to 'smash' berms. Putting a little extra loose dirt on it before the shot and tapping the rear brake hard should have the same effect - pretty sure that's what was done here.

^ You might be right, but that's not what everyone is going to copy. Same as braiding, people do it in videos, everyone catches on and starts doing it then soon the trails and forest start to look a mess. People who make videos need to be aware of the influence it has. All of us strive to ride to a level we see in these vids, and the video makers need to adopt some social responsibility in that regard. I don't mean to rag on the video makers, they do an awesome job and the riders are great, but things like this leave a mark. I don't have a problem with anyone doing anything on or to a trail, as long as the person doing it can and does fix it for the next person.

A lot of people ragged on TOTW when it first opened. I was glad to ride it a couple of times and it just got better and better as more and more sections opened. It's one of my favorite rides in whistler.

But screw you guys for releasing this video JUST as it closes. Jerks. Wink

"Top of the World" trail was the first trail my wife and I rode on our honeymoon this August. It's absolutely incredible, and this video really captures the contrast of the alpine singletrack opposed to the rest of the downhill park. Amazing.

We are having VOD for sure. It's more like VO?, but if the last picture is real I think this is just an unbeatable POD. Truly amazing! Damn, I want to ride my bike right now so badly.

I have to thank Duncan Mainland and Richie Schley for taking me to the peak a couple of years ago before the average person could go, it was a unique experience to say the least.... But that was before this trail was built!!! Can't wait to come back! That was a wicked vid!
