Me too! Didn't even read a single other word! Awesome rider and there's no denying her beauty. Odd to see a chick with such perfect makeup on the podium, but I'm not complaining.
Emily is a great inspiration and role model, my daughter at 10 yrs. old is already striving to compete DH or XC because of this wonderful girl. Thanks Em! Gotta get out for a ride next summer.
Wow. This comment section is the most pathetic thing I've ever seen on PB. It's a woman, not a three-headed rare species. She happens to ride a bike. Celebrate her for her skills, her kindness or her intelligence, but for her looks? Jesus. Anyone can be good looking. What Emily does most for the sport is how amazing of a person she is, on and off the bike. It's not about her makeup or how 'perfect' she is according to all of the warped standards out there, but about how she humanizes such a traditionally intimidating activity for a lot of women who wouldn't otherwise try it. For the sake of all that is holy, please steer away from the objectification of women in mountain biking!!! Please. You guys, as PB users and as people, are better than this.
I second you ambatt... Took the words right out of my keyboard. The majority of the above comments are so embarrassing to all of the cycling community. There are even a lack of comments on how overall lame that video was... come on guys! I expect PB users to at least be capable of classic digs at content. It's so unfortunate that so many people are fixated on the superficial as opposed to achievement and hard work. And YES, fellas, be better.
^^ Bullitproof I'm glad you stepped up the representation for all the immature a*sholes out there, they needed their voices heard. Good work. Also, learning how to use punctuation correctly is important, so stay in school. Please.
And yet I won't post any links to the MANY ugly dudes out there, because that's not what this is about. Appearance, like proper grammar, has very little to do with how well one rides one's bike. Unfortunately for you, appearance is easily fixed, while stupid is not. For the women and men out there who think that it's appropriate or acceptable to base a career on attractiveness alone, here's a virtual head slap: no matter how 'pretty' or 'sexy' or 'handsome' one is, when the beauty train leaves the station, everyone is the same. What you have once that train is gone is what matters. So hold tight to that hair dye and the teeth whiteners, because after all, being really, really, really good looking will last you longer than being smart or kind or funny or compassionate or hard working or skilled or strong or... #lieswetellourselves
IIRC her Olympic crash was at 40kph+ in a rock garden. Besides the collarbone she was pretty chewed up all over. Tough as nails to get back on the bike and race hard 72 hours later.
The Clavicle road is not a fun one... My right one took a plate and seven screws only four months ago. Getting back on the bike is tough. Couldn't imagine "Just tape me up, and let's get back out there!" after just 72 hours ?! What a badass!!
Oh hey look, a PB article/video about a mountain biker who just happens to be a woman, and the comments are all about what she looks like instead of how she rides, or whether the video is any good or not. Predictable lot you are. It is so depressing that this is still how women are perceived and treated in this day and age. It's sad that you guys truly have no idea what idiots you sound like.
This thread is so unbelievable. I'm not sure if you are all living in a cave or what... Oh look? It's a female!!!! Quick, write the most superficial shit you can think of, and hope all the other dudes writing the same thing see it! Please, PB users, be better than this. At least talk about how shitty this video is, e.g. the obvious advertising and marketing routine, the horrible slow motion edits, the lack of overall substantial content?!?!? Stop being perverted weirdo creeps focused on superficial qualities of a person and start talking about achievement, hard work, and all other things that make a good PERSON. Oh ya, in case you forgot, females are people.... Not objects. Take this kind of objectifying crap back to your man cave, and leave it there, please.
OK but she is "attractive" isn't she?. Is that "superficial"? I don't know. It seems like it is a normal part of human nature. Is it wrong to appreciate beauty? Humans evolved with brains that are hardwired to specific cues. She clearly has beneficial genetic attributes. A beautiful woman - athletic, healthy, passionate, motivated, productive. A million years ago I would want this woman in my clan and/or family. And ... she is a mountain biker!
If you use "attractive" in reference only to physical appearance, yes, that is actually the Webster's definition of superficial. Most of the animal kingdom evolved brains to respond to specific cues, but the primitive "lizard brain"reaction is not always necessarily the most "evolved" response. A million years ago you'd never find a blond like Emily, since modern humans hadn't actually evolved yet... But I bet that lizard brain was around!
When did they start allowing wheel changes in XC ala road cycling? Wasn't the point of mtb to be selfsufficient. You get a flat during a race (XC race that is) you gotta fix it! Wheel breaks race over! Do they switch bikes for the climbs like roadies too?
Not sure when they started, but I watched several of the XC World Cup races this summer on RedBull TV, both men's and women's, and I saw several wheel changes occur, mostly due to flats. Maybe it's a WC thing only? Dunno.
Pit areas have been the norm for years. You still have to fix your own bike out on the course but if you can make it back to the pits you can get assistance from your mechanic.
But hey, feel free to hate whoever and whatever you want.
Who said anything about hate? I used to watch WCup XC back in the 90s when Cadel Evans and Miguel Martinez used to do battle. Paola Pezzo and Gun Rita Dahle. Back then you couldn't do that kinda of stuff. Only made the comment cause I haven't followed XC since Miguel Martinez switched to road cycling (he has since returned). PS: People are throwing around the word "hate" way too much when they really mean to say "dislike". Hate means "intense dislike", so in order for me to hate it it's REALLY gotta piss me off!
So according to the PB poll I just saw.... ~ 3.5% of active PB users (out of those that answered the poll) are female. So THAT explains most of this nonsense....
