Since 2005 France has organized an enduro championship, the Enduro Series. Having organized the first ever enduro race in 2003 (Tribe 10000 – Val d’Allos), the amazing success of this new race format gave birth to a highly competitive and recognized championships in France, putting it on the MTB scene. The trails are rather wild and technical as the series takes place mostly in the French Alps with timed stages with around 1000m of vertical drop and more than 10’ long. Riders have to complete 10 stages like that over an Enduro Series weekend. These series were probably an incredible teaching class for the French riders who now dominate the international enduro scene. Absalon won in 2012, Clementz in 2011, but also Lau, Vouilloz, Chausson are all serious contenders in the Enduro Series. Well-known international riders also came to compete against the French, such as Weir, Lopes, Wildhaber, Atherton, Moseley, but not having such a championship series back home probably is what prevents them from excelling against the best French riders on the international competitions.

Watch the following videos and you will surely understand why at the moment enduro is dominated by the French:

The 2013 calendar (our 9th season) of the Enduro Series will be publish in October.

Samoens round 1

One thing helps over there : You can drive across the country in 12 hours.. so organizing races around is easier & for racers to attend. Plenty of amazing terrain in the Alps and Jura, and across neighboring countries too.

And indeed the Brits have more and more serious contenders too, and amazing racing terrain. But does not matter where we are from, it's man and machine against the elements anyways..

Try living in Australia (as i did but riding took over) where competing in a Super D race is really special - yes they do have an "all mountain" series which combines xc, short course xc and super d but these super d events are won on 29er hard tails - not really super d. There are a few odd events around Australia but defiantly france has the wood on many nations in terms of enduro race organisation and terrain (i.e. big mountains).

it still amazes me how the only guy we got is Smith, if you've ever been to BC you'd be wondering why were not spitting out pro riders like an old lady spitting at teenagers

I do believe this is the reason Fabien Barel is commenting the Trans-Provence race. Most of these racers aren't too keen on English lessons, apparently. Too bad, they would be better ambassadors for the sport. Then again, instead they are practicing going fast, so we can't blame them..

I've never been to France and I don't know any French people. But Cedric Garcia has made me think French people are pretty cool.

Seriously? All that's on this comment thread is bashing because of stereotypes about our countries. I thought the point of biking was to escape all that and find a passion that can unite all of us, no matter what our beliefs or background. Shame, PB. This is disappointing.

Instead of bagging out the French, you yanks should listen to what the Chinese are saying about you... Except you wouldn't understand because you can only speak 'Mercan!

flag SchredLikeTrah (Oct 1, 2012 at 23:10)
Yeah, speaking of ridicule, nothing will ever top G.W.B., and the 8 years of marmalade served in the process.. Vive la France !.. Oh yeah Cuban-b. This post was about Enduro racing, not your mis-conceptions about international relations.. Not like you'd be traveling anywhere with that attitude of course..

 Tough crowd. Smile

I was actually judging Americans and the English for this. I don't condone it, I just notice that it happens, so it's pure commentary that's not meant to offend anyone. To be honest I'd probably agree with anything the Chinese say about Americans - there's no doubt that we're spoiled and fat. I also speak fluent Mandarin so I actually would understand them.
