Riders will display their full spectrum of mountain bike skills by combining endurance and speed through technical singletrack trails. Always a popular race at the BikeFest weekends – this years race is sure to not disappoint! Full Timber Downhill Race is open to competitors aged 15+. We will have a Junior Category for competitors aged 13 to 14 that will have a lower start on the Timber Downhill Course. (Ages are determined by age as of December 31, 2012). Race entry fees are $35+hst per competitor (Junior Downhill $30+hst per competitor). Registration is OPEN. Register online at www.skircr.com/compete. Discounted lift tickets are available forcompetitors at registration check in.

GPS Gravity Enduro Race - Sunday, July 15th
NEW at this year’s Powerade Gravity Bikefest is the GPS Gravity Enduro. The GPS Gravity Enduro stands in stark contrast with “point A to point B” mountain bike races in that there is no finish line. Racers will be turned loose in the Fernie Alpine Resort Bike Park and will have the whole day to obtain four hours of GPS data. (Time spent on chairlifts and in lift lines does not count toward accumulated data.)

Riders will determine their own racecourse, choosing from more than 30 trails. Racer data will be monitored by Flaik GPS tracking and will be updated in real time via their website. It can be viewed at any time during the race on the leader board at race HQ. At the end of the day, GPS data will be tabulated and winners determined according to cumulative mileage, top speed, and Races-Within-The-Race. In addition to multiple way to win, racers can compare their stats with other riders through Flaik's "relive your day" feature on the Flaik website. Racers must have strong downhill mountain biking skills and familiarity with bike park riding.

We are thrilled to introduce this exciting to race to the Gravity Bikefest weekend! Registration is $50 per competitor and is open to participants 14 years of age and older (age as of December 31, 2012). Online registration is open at www.skircr.com/compete Competitors are also welcome to enjoy a delicious BBQ burger and salad while they wait for the results for only $10!

For more information check out the event website at www.gpsenduroracing.com

NOTE:
Both the Timber Downhill Race and the GPS Gravity Enduro Race are sanctioned races by Cycling BC. ALL competitors must hold a Cycling BC Race License to compete in the event. If competitors do not currently hold a Cycling BC license they can purchase a "one event entry license" on site at registration. The cost for the one event license is the following: $5 per race for Junior/Youth (16 & under) $10 per race for Adult (17 & over) There is an option of Excess Medical for a price of $30 Per Race. (Insurance is valid only for Canadian residents covered under a Federal or Provincial Hospital or Medical Plan.)

Other activities that weekend include trials demonstrations and more! A detailed schedule will be posted closer to the event. Don't forget about the Wam Bam Dirt Jump Jam in downtown Fernie Saturday evening from 6pm til dark.

Wam Bam is easily way cooler than the old slopestyle, it's going on at the same time as these events but they just aren't directly connected. Then if you actually looked around the hill youd see that most of the old jump features are still there, some are gone, but top gun is still super fun, bin logdin is super fun and so is monorail. Plus all the original flowy single track you can completely blast down. The ski hill deffinetly has more potential then what they might utilize but it's still fun to ride here. @baldhead knows what's up.

RCR....the reason Fernie lags behind every other bike park in BC. Let's hope the same thing doesnt happen to Kicking Horse!

You guys really need to do some research. Fernie has all kinds of stunts, ladder bridges, jumps and ttfs on the hill. They have been spending the spring repairing alot of the "stunts". Phat Larry has had a lot of work done to it. They have been improving the skihill every year. If more of you guys would actually go there ride maybe RCR would spend more money on building more trails. The thing that RCR did stop endorsing is the Slopestyle competitions. I can guarantee that it was a financial decision. Support your local hills and local bikeshops.

RCR won't build any stunts do to an accident on one a few years back...I live in fernie and we can all see the huge potential for more trails spread out on the resort, but RCR has put the kybosh on everything we need to do to improve the park....I ride all mountain and Fernie has the best single track trail network in BC all accessible from your door step...Fernie is a must for those looking for a great challenge both going up and down....

I was at fernie yesterday , for the first time in a couple years. Was very disappointed , I did not find 1 single jump until my last run of the day and seen no drops or any obstacles... There was a big sign that said caution man made obstacles so we went down and found a tiny little ladder over some water. The last time I went there was before the\y removed all the fun stuff. Looks like kicking horse and panorama will be my 2 main spots.. Its a shame as I use to love fernie. I will say though alot of the trails were closed maybe the ones that were closed had all the stuff I was looking for .

There are wood features all over the place on the Elk Chair side. Just about every trail to on the Kodiak Carnage side has some sort of feature to ride. Playground, Fat Larrys, Hornet and Rubber Ducky are just a few of them. On the top gun side there are runs that have them as well, Alternate flight pattern, Hollo Tree, Aggravated Assault etc. The Timber chair doesn't have any but it really is more about verticle and riding narly chundery shit on the sides of steeps. For the most part the hill has tons to offer. No it doesn't have a giant cork screw ladder winding itself down the mountain or giant boulders to ride up and over or huge tables and step ups. It's still a great hill and I have ridden more or less all of them in BC. Golden's features are top end for sure, and nothing compares to Whistler and probably never will. Money talks and when you have that much population feeding the bank account you can carve trails through 20 feet of snow to keep the hill up and running (there is a great photo of that online this year in Whistler) As for the burger price.....find me a resort with reasonably priced food, I am sure they are around but are far and few between.
