that's the downturn of success. UCI involvement will get Enduro to another level but will kill the unique pro / amateur / hobby-rider mix that made these event so great. Luckily there are also many smaller Enduro series / events in Europe...
I was at the race. Amazing format and a great event. I hope to keep pushing and helping get more events like this here. It is basically back tot the roots of mountain biking. Lets hope the UCI doesn't tamper too much and mess things up.
Wondering how this event works? Stages? Why do they carry an xc lid on their back? I thought the race was "short" enough to wear a full-face the whole time???? Anyone?
In short a superenduro race consists of a series of timed (mostly)downhill runs. You have to ride your bike from session to session, and arrive at the start of the next timed run within a given period of time.
for example I will use the Trans-Provence(similar to the BC bike race) since I don't know all the specifics for this race. The trans was 300km long 10,000m climbing, 15,000m desending and had 26 stages(timed sections) over 7 days. You only are timed for the 26 specials the other so many km you have to just ride in an alotted time. This is designed into it to keep people from just bringing big DH bikes. The alotted time isn't strenious but you can't walk your bike in the time frame. Je Clemetz won that race with a time of 3hrs 25mins and 54 sec so you can see why they have both helmets and a back pack full of stuff, one wouldn't want to do all that climbing and trail riding in a full face
Had no idea. Wiiiiiiiild. Thanks. Sounds MORE challenging that both a single xc or single DH race (from an overall fitness perspective). Also sounds like good old fashioned "mountain biking" to me . Thanks for the description.
Yeah it is sweet and I hope that it grows in the us and canada asap! there is the BC bike race also there is a crankworx enduro I believe and I heard one of the oregon super d races is going to go to a stage format next year, highland did the over mountain challege, trestle bike park in winter park co had one this year and i also believe angel fire in NM is going to have one next summer! there are so many bike parks and ski joints in the us and canada that we could have a series or multiple series that could easily rival the italian and french enduro seen! I don't know why more promotors don't push enduro and super d! they are the races that I feel most mountain bikers what to do! you dont have to be an xc super athlete or on a $4G+ DH rig!
