 I really don't get 35mm bars. Any well butted and shaped, shot-peened 31.8mm bar is going to be effectively invincible. even bending a bar is a pretty rare thing. most bars get replaced long before the end of their life cycle because they get too scratched! we are a fickle bunch..

 Canfield still has the best thin pedals going. I've been running them on my DH bike for two seasons. Oh, and as for the scratches, are you out to ride or look pretty? It is called mountain biking after all, and there is bound to be some rocks somewhere, I hope. Shit gets scratched!! Get over it, or try road biking, or maybe knitting.

 @djzombie it's not crap it's actually a really good brand. But looking at your previous post where you said you bought octane pedals, now that's crap. I had to buy a new rear hub after about a month when I ran an octane one. wouldn't have had to if it was raceface. it's about saving to get the components you want, not being rich

 Pedals look great, although having used their BBs, I'd be slow to buy any RaceFace product with bearings inside.

 Okay, odd. I remember hearing they had bearing issues several years ago. A few of us locally are still rocking a set of XC type BBs. I think mine were installed two years ago and still strong. But I am also not DH'ing it.

 Installed my BB in December, and it's working as good as new, despite having given it a trashing in all kinds of conditions.

 I was told by my lbs when I installed my atlas crank to switch the bb to a shimano but I did not listen and sure enough after a weekend of racing it was spitting bearings out. And the seals are not as good as many other bb imo

 @jeff444 If you purchased the crank/bb new all RF BBs come with a 1 year warranty so they'll replace it for you, no problems. Just email warranty@raceface.com and they'll sort you out. RF rarely hears issues with bad bearings anymore, but we're bound to get a bad bearing every once in a while. BBs did used to be utter shit, but since we've sourced new bearing manufacturers and gone to fully sealed cartridge bearings with Phil wood grease, blown BBs have become a thing of the past for RF.

 Apparently, I've been doing it wrong. been running the same BB on my Race Face cranks since '07 or some such. they're on my DJ bike right now.

 I've never had a problem with the rf bb. Maybe I have the newer one but its a few years old now.

 These were their super heavy cranks of the time period, basically designed to be a slightly lighter, aluminum cranks for people who would normally run steel. I can never remember the name, don't think they're atlas though. BB came with the cranks, I believe it's quad bearing. Tremblay was running them on one of the seasons of Drop In.

 To say ALL RF BBs are shite because one guy has an issue is just stu-- um, poor science. Like many manufacturers, some duds escape the QC process, that's why there's a warranty. Why would you not tale advantage of that? Didn't keep the receipt? Looks like you learned something new today.

 Hmm well I received the bb and crank as gift from rf as my turbine stem faceplate split in two. I'm just telling u rf bb have a history of not lasting long and when u compare it to a GXP or shimano its obvious the quality issues just my opinion.

 Just to clarify: Diablous cranks, and the BB is actually one bearing per side, not two.

 It's funny to read this, as my LBS wouldn't let me buy a Saint BB, and recommended the one that comes with Atlas cranks instead, and claimed that it will work for years. But like I said earlier, have had no problems with it whatsoever.

 Not really that funny cause if u look up reviews online for there bb there are all kinds of stories of how they fail and have very low review scores.

 Like I said earlier, previous generation BBs are known to prematurely fail, but we replaced every single one that failed under our warranty policy. I'm sure you're going to find lots of shitty reviews on the older stuff. We're bound to get a bad bearing out of the new stuff, so just email us and we'll replace it for you.

 I'm good thanks I spent $40 on a shimano and it works fine! I still love RF product and I am purchasing the atlas saddle and pedals soon. However when a product fails on me I am not going to put another on my bike. Cheers!

 25.4mm to 31.8mm no one went ' oh not another standard'... bars are wider than that now so the enlarged diameter can only help. I'm pretty sure its lighter and stiffer too! which is what everyone wants to hear! Also I can assure you that Raceface have sorted their bearing issues out from their old BB's. The new stuff is very high quality and outlasts many other brands I've used recently. The added rise options to the SIXC bar is great news for me! Looking forward to adding more carbon to my bike! Raceface are one of the only brands I truly trust their carbon products!

 What I'm wondering is if 35mm will be even too stiff, since the wall thickness of bar can't go down too much. I recall hearing people say some 35mm bars lack vibration dampening abilities, any experiences on this? It would be nice to hear if this is even something to worry about.

 I've been running Easton havoc carbon 35 bars and bolt on stem on my DH bike and find the dampening of them to be amazing, I find i get way less arm pump when riding, and yes the 35 mm carbon bars are actually lighter then the 31.8mm carbon bar. That's for carbon tho I have no clue what the aluminum bars would be like.

 The new Atlas DM stem is a totally Race Face exclusive design - takes no cues from Easton or any other companies design....but come on guys its a stem....how different can stems look at the end of the day - it holds the bar and is stiff and light and has the go to Race Face strength that we are known for. We also have designed our 35 bars to not get a ton stiffer than our current 31.8mm bar offerings. The 35mm lets us shave weight while adding some 'good' stiffness while also making the bars wider. The rider will still get a wider bar with good trail feedback with less hand pump.

 So with regards to the new handlebars. It seems the advantage to the new 35mm is that it allows the bars to get wider yet keep the same strength and stiffness while shaving a bit of weight. My question then is, if I don't want to run my bars at 800mm is there any advantage for me to buy them and cut them down (besides maybe a small weight savings)? Or would I be just as well off going with something from your 31.8 line?

 It depends on your definition of "small weight savings", but the Atlas 35mm bars are 40g lighter than their 31.8mm equivalent (while being 15mm wider). If you're going from the 31.8mm Atlas bar to the SIXC 35mm bar you'll loose 140g in the bar alone. For someone looking to upgrade their cockpit, 35mm offers substantial savings in weight with no decrease in strength. There's going to be a decent weight savings over 31.8mm regardless if you leave them full width or cut them down.

 Yea I realize there can potentially be a big weight savings between particular models. Carbon vs aluminum etc. I was just asking more about any performance advantages the 35mm might offer other than weight if I wasn't going to run them at full width.

 In that case, yes the weight savings would be the only advantage for going 35mm if you're not getting them for the wider option. RF decided not to make them any stiffer than 31.8mm offerings due to complaints of the current 35mm offerings being too stiff.

 That's what I was getting at. I'm building a new bike and was basically about to order a set of the 31.8 SIXC's for it. After seeing this I was just wondering if there would be any big advantage to waiting a couple months for the new 35mm to come out. In my case there prob isn't so I'll prob just go ahead and get the 31.8's

 Moving all your bars to 8x5° sweep? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! That's why I run your bars on all my bikes is the 8x4°, the angles work so much better for me and there's not many people that make them (Answer being another). My CovertCF came with a Havoc Carbon and the 1deg extra sweep (8x5) nails my hands. Will the standard diameter bars be staying as is or is everything changing?

 I"m with you on the 8 x 4 degree angles, that's the only reason I always buy raceface bars.... I find bars with 5 or 6 degree upsweep bothers my wrists... Anyone else?

 Pretty cool, Race Face. I might have to invest in something here. The stuff lasts forever. When ISIS came out, I had newer set's of square taper LP and Shore cranks and BB's that I shelved. 10 years, my teen daughters got those when I built them up new frames. They aren't fueled by beer and pizza, like their old dad, so I don't see any issues anytime soon. Both use old RF stems and older pedals. I'm sure they'd like an upgrade... But it's got to be in GREEN!!! Girls, haha... Think the biggest factor though, Race Face ACTUALLY has people on this post, wandering around. Explaining things. Very cool...

 What's the country of origin for all these new parts? I was bummed-out when my Turbine stem & post said "MADE IN TAIWAN". It's OK, no one needs to explain to me how there are 110% kick-ass parts & bikes being made in that small island off the coast of China, BUT my love for RaceFace was always the BC-made parts, ie. I would chose RaceFace over Thomson for a stem or post just to keep it Canadian, eh?

I'm still rocking a rather old set of ISIS Turbine cranks & Signature BB on my XC hardtail... just replaced a 1st-gen Deus stem (with the awesome machining work) to upgrade to 31.8 bars on the same bike, and also replaced an old XY post with the Turbine above instead of running an adapter shim for the same frame... love good parts that last a long time without being overweight or stupid!

 RF 35mm cockpit is no stiffer than current 31.8 RF stuff. It's just lighter and wider. You better bet we took the Stiffness of current 35mm offerings into consideration when designing our 35mm cockpit!

 I think 35mm means you can build a wide bar that is just as strong as 31.8 but a good bit lighter.

 Yup, dingus is right. You can shave a bit of weight by going to 35mm since you can decrease the material in the clamping zone. Atlas bars show the largest weight savings by dropping 40g and increasing width to 800mm. SIXC bars are now right around 200g and 800mm. If you're looking to upgrade your cockpit, 35mm is an excellent option since you can save a solid chunk of weight!

 I like those Atlas pedals but $179??? Honestly??? They have exact measurements as Wellgo MG1 which are 115mm and weigh the same. Bearings; I'm not really buying pedals using tiny bearings anymore. Now its bushings- lighter, simple, stronger.

 The Atlas pedal body is not 'exactly' the same as a Wellgo MG1- this pedal shape is a RF design. The bearings in the pedal are not all 'tiny' either. Pedals running on bushings can be a bit more reliant on user servicing to maintain the pedal through heavy use.

 Any bearing used in a pedal is puny to me. If you like them go for it and good luck. Ya I know no 2 pedals are exact but thankyou for stating the obvious. I run Straitlines that I got for free, Animal PC, have ten pairs of MG1s because their lighter, stronger and bigger platform for my big feet and only $30. Everyone has their own preff when it comes to pedals. $179 Good luck.

 @Raceface-suit Are both pedals manufactored in BC? My understanding is that some of your lower end stuff is made in Asia, how can you tell whats made where? These things are important to me.

 They went bankrupt due to shitty management that pulled money out of the business and couldn't pay it back.

Race Face has always made good stuff but I will never spend $$$ on an item like pedals that will last maybe two seasons of hard ridding before needing to be replaced.

 Depends on the quality of the product. I've got two pairs of Straitline flats: the first have been on all DH bikes for 6 years, the latter on various shorter travel bikes for 4 years.

 Nice. Won't buy in 35 until there is a stem with a +\- 6 or 10 degree rise.

The benefit of the new 10mm low rise bars is negated by not being able to reverse the stem to a -6 or -10...
