Calgary AB – Resorts of the Canadian Rockies Inc. (“RCR”) and the Banff Rail Co Inc (“BRC”) have entered into a letter of intent by which BRC has agreed to the acquisition of and RCR has agreed to the sale of Fortress Mountain resort, both subject to certain conditions precedent being satisfied. Completion of the transaction is subject to the execution of a formal Purchase and Sale agreement between RCR and BRC, and the obtaining of all necessary regulatory approvals. Completion of this process will lead to the transfer of the Fortress Mountain operation and assets from RCR to BRC.Located just 60 minutes west of Calgary in the picturesque Kananaskis Valley, Fortress Mountain has not operated as a ski resort since the 2003-04 ski season.

“Over the years, Fortress Mountain has faced significant economic challenges, but BRC will give it a new lease on life” says Zrinko Amerl, the president of the BRC. “Over the years Fortress has had a special place in hearts of many Albertans, and we plan to put it back there! It has always been the place of fun and legendary snow conditions. We will strive to bring that environment back.”

“Fortress Mountain has an historical place in Alberta, and is an important part of the Alberta ski experience. We felt important to work with a company that has a long term vision for the resort,” says Matt Mosteller Senior Director for Business Development and spokesperson for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies.

RCR is based in Calgary Alberta, and is the owner operator of six of Canada’s leading ski resorts, including Lake Louise and Fernie Mountain resorts.

The BRC is an Alberta company dedicated to development of tourism on a regional basis, and is headquartered in Banff, Alberta.

With the prospects of all this going on, we are also looking to venture into downhill mountain biking during the summer months. But in order to do so we need to hear from all you riders out there. Please send your letters of support to la-mtb@skifortress.ca with your name, email, phone and address. We need this as a part of our presentation to government.
