Fox World Headquarters Grand Opening

Feb 1, 2013
by Ian Hylands
Fox celebrated the new building with an open house party last night, and there were athletes, friends, family and industry people from moto, wake, surf, bmx and mtb world. Richard Cunningham and I had the privilege of attending, here is a look at what we saw.

Way back in the beginning Fox Head was a moto-x distribution company named Moto-X Fox. They sponsored several racers and made their own race kits as well as making their own in house parts. They also distributed their own brand of suspension products under the name of Fox Racing Suspension. Around 1977 the two companies split with Fox Suspension taking the tail of the fox and Fox Racing taking the Head. In 2006 Fox Racing officially became Fox Head to help differentiate the two companies a little more.

As we left the party we spotted this awesome orange El Camino in the parking lot complete with an electric DH rig in the bed. And as I got ready to shoot it this girl walked up and posed beside it just for fun.

Sweet looking HQ. I'm guessing it's "FOX Head" (apparel and gear) only rather than both Fox Head and Fox Racing Shox under the same roof? As far as I know, Watsonville will still be the engineering HQ for suspension.. Is that right?
  • 69 11
Fox Head and Fox Racing Shox are two completely different companies, with no relation what so ever.
  • 12 3
I don't know about that. You see a lot of the general public wearing FOX clothing. Where as TLD is mainly action sports riders.. I think TLD might still have it but it would be close.

Comparison between Fox and TLD doesn't make a much sense as lest say SRAM and Fox. But it's ok because if Fox did that, all TLD would have to do is put the D3 on a pedestal that said "Fox wishes their full face was as sick as ours" outside their head quarters.

Anyway, I'm in architecture school right now. So seeing some of these pictures of how they designed Fox headquarters is pretty cool.

weren't both fox companies originally one company started by brothers and they split into two sometime after starting up?

Also, scary spurs. Yikes

Benny4x, all I have to say to you is that Troy Lee Designs might be a smaller company but at least they keep their integrity. When I am in the streets I see people wearing fox all over the place, people that never rode a dirt bike and that has no idea what Fox stands for (or use to stand for). Troy Lee is still legit to the motocross and mountain bike community and that's what I respect. We are still exclusive. Oh yeah, and they wish they had an awesome helmet like the D3!

Just to clear things up as far as Im concerned Fox was created by two brothers, One decided to go into suspension which is now known as fox racing shox and one got into apparel which is now called fox head.

The Fox V3R was just as nice as a Troy Lee D3. The new Fox Rampage Carbon looks extremely legit also. I think both companies have equally sick helmets. I wouldn't consider going back to a cheaper helmet as the added protection of a V3R or D3 is apparent just by visual inspection. I chose the V3R because it fit my head better. I was in between sizes of TLD D3 but the small Fox V3R is the best fitting helmet I've ever had. That being said, TLD did warranty a D2 for me a few years ago because I left the helmet in my car and the glue between the shell and the liner failed. I was impressed that they still warrantied the helmet for an incident that was due to my stupidity.

Absolute proof positive that they are overcharging for all their shit. Who paid for that f*cking sweet building and all the contemporary design shit inside? All the fools who are willing to buy Fox... Rampage Pro Carbon, $469 ha ha ha ha ha! They should be sitting on the floor and selling out of cardboard boxes on the pavement. That would knock a good 40% off their ridiculous prices.

@nwguerilla425: HOW MANY FREAKING TIMES MUST IT BE SAID????!!!! Fox Head,(this article) DOES NOT MAKE SUSPENSION PRODUCTS.

Some of us have know the difference between Fox Head apparel and Fox Racing Shox for awhile, but clearly many people are finding out right now due to this article. I think the problem is that people post comments before reading the previous comments... I feel like both Fox companies like the fact that the general public thinks they are the same company because they get more exposure this way.

Jaame, maybe they got a contract for US Army like Oakley Big Grin who has also built themselves a "stylish" headquarters. In that case all US citizens pay for it, whether they like the brand or not, hihi
  • 1 0
Pretty sure they are in the business to make money.
  • 2 1
Yeh, and they're obviously doing a great job of it! Now I would love a Rampage Pro Carbon helmet, but knowing they're made in China, probably in the same factory that makes 661, Kali and THE helmets just makes me baulk at the ridiculous asking price. I bet you the total cost of R&D, manufacture, import, tax and distribution still sees them well under $100 a unit.

@Waki... I didn't know Oakley did that. Don't hate the player, hate the game I suppose. At least they can look cool as shit in their Oakleys now when they go and invade other people's countries, kill a load of Muslims and steal their oil.
  • 3 3
Jaame - keep it cool, this is too heavy for a bike forum. Conspiracy theories and stuff...

I only saw some reality show from US Troops in Iraq. Those who drive Humvees have Oakley sunglasses and outside they wear L- frame MX goggles. Under Clinton times, US troops had Scott goggles.

Ah and those glasses are called "Gascan" - ironic enough? Buahaha, fk me... I wonder if officers wear the more expensive Oil rig model hihi...
  • 4 0
It's only a conspiracy theory if it isn't the accepted truth among the general public.
  • 1 0
The Oakley thing might not mean much. My dad audits government contracts to ensure they stay under price and that the quality is as the contract stated. He does so for aircraft parts, but as I understand it, the United States government pretty much always goes with the lowest bidder on everything. I suppose it is possible that Oakley lobbied some politicians for the contract, but I doubt it was for significantly more than Scott would have charged. Any politician caught spending extra money for favors while the country is stalled over budget talks (as it has been for several years) is likely to lose his job. Supposing fox agreed to make military gear it would have to be at a price competitive with the competition.
  • 2 0
Yeah bro. I'm sure it was on the legit. A big contract brings big economies of scale no doubt. You need to have lenses that can withstand shotgun blasts when you're in a war zone, ain't that the truth.
  • 2 2
taletotell - that was funny. As if citizens had anything to say after a club has been elected, as if it mattered much which club was elected Big Grin Most politicians (and Generals... and journalists) these days should be like DH Racers: wear logos of their sponsors, so you know which branch of economy you are supporting and which petrol company will get most shares. Obama - mmmm, sell bank stocks now! Buy something from energy sector now! Oh, it's 3 months after election, buy banks stocks before they get back to normal Big Grin oh... I love that game.

And as for the spendings in military alone - especially in US - spending "extra" money is kind of... hard to put the word "extra" there. Gigainsanelyextra would be a word, of what is happening. Off course if citizens were given perspective why is that spent that would not look extra at all, I stop it here... why go there? No reason because off course in such small matters as glasses or goggles (in relation to let's say - bombs) you are perfectly right, and they will go for lowest bidder than can fullfill the requirements of the specifc order, as by law. I don't think there are bribes involved as supplying the whole army with Oakleys with MP3 players is probably cheaper than one F-35 Big Grin

jaame - lenses withstanding shotgun blast - my father bought ones like that over 10 years ago from TV market, they were called, Mohave or something, ihihih... oh I hate how people truly love those properties of certain materials, ready to recitate them woken up at night. They buy expensive shit and will believe anything that will justify spending money on it. I have glasses at 1/3 price of Oakleys, that are made in Europe, with lens made of polycarbonate as well. Off course style-wise they are only acceptable. Oh I forgot - I am not getting the "legendary" customer support - ihihihi...

Cheers!
  • 1 0
About 20 years ago the shop I worked in had an Oakley lens with shotgun dimples in it. I think they distributed them to all dealers in the mid-90s.

As for the Oakleys vs F35s are you kidding? They could supply the entire armed forces and all their families, with Oakleys, clothes, boots, petrol and food for a year for less than the price of an F35. They're about a billion dollars each aren't they?

We are completely out of balance in our relationship with nature and have embraced short-term convenience over long-term existence. I blame religion and lack of education.
  • 2 0
If anyone is interested in the fascinating question of whether our choices relating to how we use our time are or are not influenced mainly by education (nurture). our DNA (our nature) in our relationship to the media we use, you could do alot worse than at least read up on Marshall McCluhan (spelling?). He suggests quite convincingly that it is the media itself which plays a key role in how we live our lives. He famously gives the example of the light bulb. That simple piece of technology has enabled more people in more places to become "out of balance with nature" by staying up when it is dark thus changing the world and our view of what is natural. Interesting stuff and essential reading if you are so inclined.

Protour - blame religion and lack of education - Hihi.

I thought "smart phones" and "creative tablets" are a triumph of science over average man, ultimate dumbing solution, enslavement of thought. Technology meets marketing at it's best.

Ehhh... and what education are you so proud of? That pish we were all taught and even worse excrements they stuff to kids these days? It's not education, not science, it is poor language school - they teach you fundamental crap so you understand what employer and future peer group tells you to do for them.

I f*cking love people having a logic open-opposition-towards-religion equals intelectualist.
  • 2 1
Look at the history of scientific advancement over the last 2000 years and one trend is very consistent: Science makes advances that make religious ideas look stupid, so then the religious people back off those ideas, make compromises, or move the goal posts. It isn't a two way street, science has certainly never compromised itself because of advances in religion. Religious people think they have special powers to communicate with things they can't see or that they might be able to live for eternity, the world would be a better place without these delusions which border on mental illness. This planet is all we really know we have.
  • 2 1
Man... You are not making any sense. You pdrpetuate basic stupidities of pop-religious people against pop-antireligion people. That is basicaly a logic where both stand in opposition to each other, or if you like: one cannot exist with other being there. Religion is nothing else but a way to understand God, certain people agreed that this is the way to "research" and worship him and certain people followed. God and religion can be separate, and many wise people have said it, be it Dalai Lama or Desmond Tutu. Unfortunately most pop-Christians or pop-atheist take little effirt to really find God, falling into "blind worship" pretending that they know what they are doing just as pop-atheists pretend they have something to do with science. That basicaly puts pop-atheists in position of actual "belief". They pretty much refer to "science" in exactly same way religious people refer to certain imagination of God. Scoence basicaly is an experiment: I think this will happen if I do this in that way. In order to make it possible I will use experience of myself as well as others. Then I will write a report of what happened. That's it period. I for one have no freaking trouble with either God, religion, or scientific experiments and... actual creative work. Atheism is a new religion - face it! Too many people have big trouble separating God from Religion and Science from deliberate action. Both are illiterate in theology and "Science". Both Religion and maths make great subordinates. And I for one believe that God does not want blind belief, he wants us to know him, and "Science" is one of the ways. He wants us to never stop searching, you choose the way to him. If you spend your life searching for proof he is not there - great! Just don't sit and say I know he is or isn't there. That degrades him to either that great guy you met or that dude that did not show up where I was waiting for him, which is stupid!
  • 1 1
First of all, quit making assumptions, and then rambling along recklessly with them. I never said God doesn't exist and I'm not an atheist.

Having said that, you lose all credibility when you ridiculously claim atheism is a religion, I'm only used to hearing that from really stupid religious people and I know you are smarter than that. It's a very disingenuous claim, like when religious people claim atheists don't exists because they don't believe in God. You need to look up the definition of religion if you think atheists are somehow religious.

3 questions:

1. I'm curious why you call God "he", as if you know that God is a male? That seems religious to me.

2. Do you pray to God? That would seem religious also, and where do people get these special ESP powers to communicate with things they can't see?

3. Are your parents religious or were you raised in a religious atmosphere?

The problem with trying to separate religion and God is that the two concepts are too intertwined with each other, you need to come up with a new word for God or something. But that would be ridiculous, wouldn't it? Better to just not mention God and spend your energy confronting the irrationalities of religion before it destroys the planet and the really crazy religious people get their armageddon prophecies fulfilled. The battle against religion is a battle for the survival of the planet in some ways.
  • 2 0
Religion and the battle for survival for the planet - WTF... What do you think made the world population explode?! religion?! You better start killing doctors, blowing up facilities of pharmaceutical industry. Next I suggest people who do industrial farming - cut the food supply! Did priests or imaams invent, how to extract oil from tar sands or drill 1000m below the sruface of the ocean? it is such a nobrainer - isn't it?! People in Jerusalem in 50BC knew it, but they just did not have enough SUVs! Maybe it is the Vatican lobby that invented internal combustion engine... oh I know! Goldman-Sachs! Surnames say it all! Those greedy readers of Tora! Maybe you want to control births, maybe you want to keep only useful people alive? Age 30, not enough achievements - sterilization, no achievements at all - dzzzzzt! off to the compost!

Save the planet, f*ck... after 100 000 years there will be no sign after us, and that's a fart in time, don't worry. By the time plutonium from Fukushima gets "safely absorbed" by sea bed, there will be f*cking Avatar going on where Tokyo is. There is stuff that lives on metheors, in the middle of nuclear reactors. Planet will be fine - we will be f*cked. Cold war screwed it. Instead of blowing 2000 bombs to show off, they should have blown a targeted 500 on the ground, which would send us back to stone age - at least. If you ask me, I think we won't be be here in 500 years, because the only hope comes from Scientists who say, we will drive our cars for a month on one gallon of water, and by doing it we will also create so much excessive energy that we will charge our house from driving our cars. Sounds better than immaculate conception - something from nothing - just in a much larger scale! Myth Busters should be done about that! No, no, not the immaculate bit... I apologize...

You should, because you are nothing but a wandering, babbling coward here is incapable of answering questions about himself. Prove me wrong.

If I left the last two sentences out of my last post what would your response have been? You latched onto that and babbled on like you always do but completely ignored my questions?
  • 1 0
Oh, you just want to play the game on your rules, I commented on your argument stop religion to save the planet, and I made few divagations on which you picked up and turned the whole point to the sidetrack. If I pick up on your bit now, you will try to find a hole in new stuff. It will be like a discussion O had with another guy similar to us both, who will just argue on anything: he talked about why we should not eat tuna, and after 2 hours he ended up with stuff like: aren't doplhins smarter than humans... Let's leave it - we both heard points of view - who's is better is irrelevant. There were surely philosophers who were researching that field as well... "Can someone actualy be right?"
  • 1 0
Maybe not, but all of the brain washed religious people are clearly wrong.
  • 1 0
And going back to my original point, how would you expect a planet to last very long when over half the population thinks it is only a very temporary destination and that ultimately they will be living in eternity in the clouds with their savior. Religious people have no incentive to save this planet, but some of the craziest ones do selfishly think they have an incentive to destroy it, and that's what it feels like we are heading towards with the current battle between the Christian nut jobs and the Muslim idiots.
  • 1 0
Religious people simply don't steer "the planet". It is the people like bankers, corporate CEOs, that have in their pockets both people of blind belief and their leaders on one side, and on the other: useful idiots from "scientific" world. An oceanographer making a research aiming to find that deep water drilling is safe is also a scientist. Marketing? Hello, who needs that branch of Science? Read how it originated, who paid for development of it.

If you have bad intentions you use religion to idle a part that cannot defend itself in any way, and technology to idle another part which can defend itself so it does not come up with an idea to do it. You use religion to extract money from God fearing people, and technology to extract money from technology lovers (smart phone FTW!). You use this money to maintain power over them. Any tool can be used in a bad or good way however religion cannot be used "to destroy the planet" (I can't believe what kind of idiot one has to be to use such expressions), because it cannot minimize the death rates from diseases and it cannot develop poisons (like those being a byproduct of making bicycles) that can kill living organisms - "science" can by developing technology. And the environment is damaged by overgrown nr of humans who use "dirty" technologies to improve their lifestyle or life expectancy alone.

Battle between Christian and Muslims? What is your experience with that? You can just parrot shit you heard on News channel.

And really stop telling people that they look up to something that is wrong, because you are on a bike site arguing about bullcrap. Just like mine, your values are empty hipocritical crap. This life is a game, your only role is to play it well yourself, what others do wrong is completely irrelevant - first be the change you want to see in this world. By writing this we are both very far from being any remedy - a sophisticated WANK, that's all we two do.
  • 1 0
oh and to really finish: what f*cks up the world big time is the stupid desires of people like you and me, who seek happyness by riding a f*cking bike, completely useless to survival or personal development, and we achieve that by using people who fight for food on the table - sorry for food, many of them have no table. And we take their food, just as in case of fishing off the Western Coast of Africa, or by growing plants for pasture for our cows and pigs in countries like Ethiopia - which relies on food help from our countries - no one would thought that out better: Make technology to grow food next to people who have nothing to eat, but use it for your own purpose (which is inefficent production of tasty food ) and send them leftovers, then call it "charity!" Then you shoot anyone who wants to enter your plantation!

When your child just died from starvation in such circumstances, you have nothing but to believe in some God, that there is a slight hope of justice somewhere out of this world, because here is none. You need hope to carry on another day, that this child went to a better place. Dunno if you have a kid, but picture it in such situation, you might get something. How can "Vatican people" live in Golden Basilicas with that around? How can you spend time reading about it on a f*cking computer?

You are a H-I-P-O-C-R-I-T-E, get on with it in that subject!
  • 1 0
I actually use a bicycle for transportation alot so I don't feel like a complete hypocrit, but I know I'm not prefect. I'm also involved in global warming awareness and you should be too.

I agree that religion is nothing but wishful thinking that gives people false hope but I see no value in this. But some religious people do use this hope to inspire themselves to strap bombs to themselves in order to kill innocent victims...do you see any value in that?

Also, there are powerful political leaders in the worlds who have dangerous religious beliefs, so religion could likely lead to an end to human existence if the right people got the right weapons. Apparently you missed 9/11. But more likely you are a conspiracy nut who thinks the government did it. And religious people have smart phones too, so I've covered all your points once again but more importantly I silenced you concerning your ridiculous, new-age, pseudo religious belief in God.

Do you still think atheists are religious? There is a funny new video on youtube called Gods God that explores this question, I'll bet you would like it.
  • 1 0
Religion causes much more harm than good in our world, and has caused extreme loss of human life for thousands of years. Religion will eventualy lead to the end of the world. Fact. There is nothing we can do about it. In the meantime, having fun riding our bikes, eating what we want, burning gas, and arguing on the internet seems like a fine thing to do. Don't have kids, and don't worry about the future because ultimately it will be beyond our control. It's so simple. Live in the moment. I was raised Catholic, and attended church every Sunday until my 18th birthday. Aside from weddings, I haven't stepped inside a church since my parents gave me the option to choose for myself. I told them I believe in scientific fact. I'm not an Atheist. I'm an Agnostic, which is the belief that the existence or non-existence of any deity is unknown and possibly unknowable. I'll believe in God when I get shown actual scientific proof that he exists. Until then, I call bullshit.
  • 1 0
That's good advice. Getting back to my original point in my first post, another one of religions crimes is hindering human education in all sorts of ways, it's no wonder that the who are loudest about denying global warming are typically religious Republicans in America, the same people who believe a religious armageddon of some sort is approaching, the same people who want to nuke Iran, and not surprisingly often the same people who are the most vocal about maintaining their right to own assault weapons. And then the Mormons are reproducing like rabbits with crazy ideas, the Muslims repress anything related to progress, and the Pope retires and hides in Vatican City to avoid prosecution for protecting child abusers and covering up their crimes.

  • 1 2
not true. not at all....... please don't make up things as representative of an entire country when you are so very wrong. global readers; please don't believe that our 'finest' burgers come out of a fast food window.

I think the girl was just looking for a place to pee IMO.

Looks cool for a metro Californian night club. They need to put some dirt in there. I think they are confused on what industry they are in.
  • 1 0
They're in the clothing industry, so it looks about right.
  • 8 2
No wonder there stuff is over priced. Keep spending your hard earned money kids. I heard they want to add another floor next year.
  • 6 0
So wheres the pump track? Halfpipe?
Something..these are communication areas.
Thats oc for ya..all bling
  • 5 0
Well, now you know where all of your hard-earned Fox money went. Neat place!
  • 4 1
 true dat....way over priced.
  • 6 2
better than tld prices... a bit better anyway
  • 3 0
I really would love to work there! I wonder if they need any "marketing/business" people? Razz (according to the fox job site... yes. One. And I am Canadian, so my chances were just slashed in half) lol
  • 1 0
Idk man, they'd probably love a Canadian to figure out what your all about. Lol they're still guessing at what you want
  • 3 0
hahaha "we'd like snow themed graphics... and a fork that can withstand Minus 40 C.... also.... maple syrup. Lots of it." Razz

That could be a cool gig though, working at Fox in their marketing dept. I should look into this lol

Making excellent suspension products in the late 70's made Fox respected and quite cool. Selling clothing made the Fox family rich. I don't think Fox Head (or whatever they call it) wants the separation of suspension companies and the clothing company to be too clear. I think they still get some cred from the perception that "FOX is also in DH and Moto.

I expected to see more girl legs in such a fashion event.
  • 6 1

  • 1 0
nice hq shame we all struggle to get the right colour and size on fox clothing gloves ect gd way to spend money wilst the worlds in a economic downturn sort your product placement b4 trying to show of
  • 1 0
I dunno why everyone keeps explaining that fox head and fox tail used to be the same company but split wy back in the late 70s when it was already mentioned in the article. Did anyone actually read the captions?
  • 1 1
TLD helmets are over rated, they cost a small fortune, there graphics are pretty shit, and the moto cross buckle is old fashioned and annoying to undo and do up every five minutes. POC are better in my opinion. But this debate is for another time. The Fox building looks a better place to work than my 1960 soviet style building. They even have pretty lights as well.

 That Camino is hawt
  • 3 0
Hey FOX HEAD, are you hiring?

If im not mistaking they were brothers Geoff (Fox Head) and Bob(Fox Shox) who split off (obviously) and started there own thing in the late 70's
  • 3 0
Looks like walking into the death star

  • 1 0
Doesn't look like any of those. That M55 thing is unbelievably audacious especially the biceps, airbrush and royal ones.
  • 1 1
The owners of both fox companies are brothers and they parted there ways then made 2 different companies. Fox clothing had the head and fox shoxs had the tail.
  • 3 0
 why wasn't i invited
  • 2 0
 holy crap that's elaborate
  • 2 1
Two things I take from this... Mike Redding is a chain smoker, and he looks an awful lot like Roddy Piper.
  • 4 2
