The first in our 4-part web series brings us to Vernon, New Jersey and Mountain Creek Bike Park. Formerly known as Diablo Bike Park, Mountain Creek has developed a reputation for seamlessly incorporating man-made features into a diverse setup of natural and gnarly terrain. We not only wanted to pay homage to one of the most highly regarded freeride spots in the country, but also show just how important bike parks are to the east coast trail experience. Join Jeff Lenosky, George Ryan, Matt Miller, Harlan Price and Brice Shirbach as they explore one of the east coast's most iconic spots in Episode 1 of From Where We Stand.

Awesome episode! I live in NJ and ride MCBP often; it truly is an amazing place to ride. Only thing that irks me is that it sounds like they are trying to be too East vs. West. While I get that most feel the East Coast is underrated, there is no need to try and compare it with the West Coast riding. By constantly saying that the East Coast has "this and that" and the West Coast doesn't, further provokes the image that the East Coast is inferior (in my mind). The East has top notch trails and is a phenomenal place to ride, and shouldn't need to be compared to the West Coast to gain credibility. Regardless, awesome episode and look forward to the others in this series!

I feel like they are showing that there is potential here for a whole different style of riding from the west. It is like when California first broke into the world wine scene. They didn't say France sucked. They said theirs was good too. Now you can order either one at a restaurant and people will think you are fancy. That said, I don't drink so most of this is straight out of the old rear end, but you get the idea.

Good times! Sorry that we didn't hit all the typical stuff on MCBP. The goal was to highlight more natural terrain than man made flow. So many videos are park centric and these are aiming towards something a little different. The rocks and chunder of some woodsy east coast riding. And riding with friends!

This is awesome. This park is what got me into mountain biking. I remember skiing there (they have one of the best terrain parks on the East Coast) and seeing their mountain bike features and trails. I decide I wanted to try downhill, so I went to this park with a 400 dollar hardtail and a month later I had a downhill bike. Awesome park with a ton of trails

Wish they would've showed George or some of the other guys ripping the USO/Upper Ripper/Asylum on their DH bikes, maybe a bit of what a park day at mountain creek entails. Hanging out at the base of the gondola, etc. but in the end I guess this is going to be an "enduro" web series.

Why not on their trail bikes? Ha!

I'd love to see someone rip USO on a trail bike...but it'd be ugly Go to 2:15 for a taste of the best in the world on USO

Wow that really sucked, almost 6 months until MCBP opens again and you guys got me jonesing even more to get back there. Been riding here since 2003 on and off but since MC took it over it has the best vibe, crew and trail work ever. Keep it up guys you're doing a great job!

I have only ridden MC on a 6", and it was amazing. The rough side where all the rocks are tested my skills like never before and the flow side was almost on par with Highland's flowy stuff.
I gotta get back there some day.

I rode with Jeff and Aaron Chase two years ago at Rays, the absolute two most down to earth guys I have ever met. Jeff is a great guy and helped me land a few tricks into the foam pit.

Mountain Creek is amazing! Rode there this past season for the first time and fell in love with the place. The staff and trail crew are awesome! I remember riding all the trails they showed in the video Smile

I was there last year. My first time in a Moutain Bike Park. I had a stock Big Hit 2010.
I met people, made friends, lost myself in them through some trails, just going to stop in Utah ... broke my chain .... was SUPER FUN!

awesome seeing mountain creek here, wish they would have shown some sweet downhill action though, maybe some nice flowy jumps... creek isnt just a rock garden!

Very true, its one of the only places near me that actually has flow O.o. except those damn break bumps.

Great place, but way less variety than MC. Platte is a good showcase of natural slate riding, but MC has Granite and manicured stuff.

sick episode, can't wait for the next one! But there are also flowy trails on the east coast too, haha

So sweet to see a movie filmed at my local mountain, but they should have showed some of the flow trails like Alpine, and not just the rocky trails.

at 3:50-4:00 anyone know what trail this is? i only found out about mtn creek at the end of last season while i was still on my AM bike.

3:55-4:05 is Tempest. That natural lip is the "tombstone", which is at the bottom of tempest, before it connects to Waterboy. If you ride Creek on a busy weekend, you can usually count on Tempest and that whole side of the mountain being pretty empty.

I don't think the east coast necessarily makes better riders...but it does make better tube/tire repairmen.

Looks to me like that East Coast mtbers have an inferiority complex to the rest of the US?

Interesting you said that wobbem. I've done a lot of riding in New England, and with the snowboarding/skiing, biking, surfing, skating and even bmx.. the East Coast group tag is assigned to a lot of edits and videos that people put out. There's EAST stickers on cars and boards. It's cool to me because it brings a sense of unity to the region, such as the Pacific Northwest area.. but I think it came about as an answer to the vast West coast. The west coast is huge and the east is a little more close-knit and tight.. but there's the division again.. Keeping things separated will result in a war haha.. Love for all..
