The GT Factory Racing Team is raring to go at the first World Cup of 2012! The team launched its striking new look while out on their pre-season training camp in Newport Beach, California.
The strong design heritage of GT bicycles’ race teams was always going to be a hard act to follow but the team have worked with GT's designers and new apparel sponsor ONE Industries to put together a sleek and professional look for the 2012 season. On board the team issue GT Fury and decked out in the latest ONE industries kit, the team showed off the black, yellow and white colour-way that will be gracing mountain bike events around the globe this year. "We've gone for a subtler look this year for our main race kit but don’t worry, we'll be mixing it up with a few other offerings from ONE as the year progresses" said 2008 World Champion Rachel Atherton
Finalising a three year deal with Shimano this winter means the team will be running Shimano Saint groupsets, Shimano shoes, and Atherton edition Pro components aboard the quiver of GT bikes. Also gracing the bikes will be Fox suspension products, which in turn will be supported by Fox's race program, custom tuning and product support from world class technicians. New team member Marc Beaumont said '’Switching to the Shimano and Fox components this off season has been smoother than I expected, the Fury hasn't felt this good in years!"
Continental continues to supply the 'Black Chili' rubber for the team which keeps the bikes firmly on line. "Working with Continental is really good for me right now, they have a whole host of tyres that I can use for enduro, I'm favouring the Rubber Queen and Baron at the moment they are both so good’ Mentioned eldest sibling Dan
Meanwhile E-13 supply the chain-guides, new sponsor FSA supply the headsets, Stan’s No Tubes keeps the guys inflated, while tibolts.co.uk finishes off the build to ensure the weight of the bikes is kept to a minimum.
Hitting up races the world over the team have again selected the Mercedes Vito Sport as our vehicle partner for 2012, "The amount of miles we do in the Vito Sports is amazing, I think we clocked up over 60'000 last year alone yet the van is still awesome, as perfect for those long trips between races as it is for nipping down to the local trails' commented Gee Atherton.
Using the amazing Alpi Bike Resort in Torinio, Italy as its base for the summer the team’s schedule will take in the full World Cup circuit, Crankworx Canada and Europe, Mega Avalanche, Super Enduros, select BDS events as well as Rampage and a host of other Enduro events.

I'm with PatMan. It's a shame too; I've met the Athertons and Marc at the World Cup at Windham (both 2010 and 2011). Athertons are stuck up and full of themselves (Dan not so much as the other two), while Marc is a cool dude and willing to shoot the breeze with Joe Schmoe on the course.
Feel bad for the guy. How long has he been on GT for now? All of a sudden the 3-pack come in and he's the red-headed (well, brown headed) step child? Come on, GT.

looks as if GT and/or Athertons don't want Marc as part of their team unit. At this level of sport one would think a team like GT would not be part of such school yard tactics!! GT should do the right thing and pay out Marc's contract and release him so he can go to a team that wants him and will support him ! just sayin
why oh why did gt sign up a bunch of pretentious disillusion morons... the athertons are like the sort of weird inbred brother and sister acts you get on american idol/x-factor (and any other Yugoslavia has talent style show) marc is too good to be burdened with there presence.
Im with sambs827 on this. When i was younger i messaged all three of the athertons saying hi, and the only reply i got was from Dan, who i ended up speaking to a few times. The other two, however, not a word.
You know....it's amusing to see how quickly all of pinkbike can go from thinking the Athertons are the greatest living people on the face of the Earth and worshiping the ground they walk on. Now everyone here seems to have nothing but pure foaming at the mouth hatred for them. Don't say it's not true either, we all know it is. Definitely weird relationship with Beaumont. And the press release even called him the "new member" (though in the same sentence he referenced having ridden the Fury for "years"). What team is this, GT or Atherton? If its the Atherton brand riding GT bikes, then you can't really have Marc literally standing in their shadows. If its the GT team featuring Marc and the Athertons, then add another toilet man logo. Or give Marc his own killer logo.
kind of dumb, how Marc has to have Atherton racing on his sleeve. Its the GT factory racing team, not just Atherton racing. They make it seem like he's coming to their team, and not the other way around.
I still like the athertons, theyre still amazing riders but thats bullshit what they did to marc and I hope marc gets a better place for him when his contract ends.

Personally kind of tired of the Athertons and their story...yes yes..fantastic riders...blah blah....Certainly not going to say a damn thing about their skills other than total respect and appreciation for them...but their marketing is getting so old and tiresome. If I see another picture of the boys trying to look tough or Rachel trying to look like a supermodel I'm going to lose it.

haha try The Art of Flight! I know its snowboarding but its every action sports movie cliche wrapped into one. Theres 20 minutes of footage streched into an hour and a half thanks to the "Super epic slo-mo", a horribly shitty soundtrack and way too many scenery shots topped of with t-rice trying to be poetic in his monotone narration

Sorry but that was freakin amazing. If world titles were one on team launch videos. GT won it. I want DH team launch videos to be like that. Super hyped, insane footage and RANDOM CYANIDE ATTACKS!!!!! Yes it's overblown and looks like something out of 'teh future' but lets be honest, all 4 of those riders are amongst the top 20 riders in the world. I'll watch the real deal stuff come world cup time When the truly awesome riding happens. But that just goes to show how much the sport is progressing when thing like that come out. blood sweat and gears.
Have to agree with you totally... don't know why everyone's just whinging and whining about how they don't like slow-mo, or whips (???!), or just focussing on all the other crap (athertons vs marc, etc, etc)- THIS VID WAS EPIC!! Sick riding, sick trail, great concept for the clip with awesome cinematography!!!! This is a team launch vid that is way ahead of anything else in my opinion, even from what I've seen in other sports. GT has definitely raised the bar here for the other teams, even a non-biking yobbo could watch this and would be totally blown away. Great work Clay and Cam, that was sick!!

I'm gonna have to disagree with a lot of the comments saying that people are sick of the Athertons and all the attention is on them and not Marc. The Athertons simply by their nature bring lots of attention to themselves in a good way and so to, to GT. They are common household MTB names now, up there with Gwin, Hart and the likes where as I feel Marc isn't. The Athertons are clearly going to stand out more and GT and Clay Porter are simply using that to their advantage. Don't get me wrong I like Marc but having them centre stage is the right thing to do.
Marc was the first ever rider to podium a carbon frame bike, and Minnaar the first ever to win on a carbon sled, kind of gets him in the history books don't you think?
calm down atrokz, dub step is way too overused these days and it all has a very similar, repetitive beat. stop making it out to be some new bold sound created by musical geniuses; its music made for parties with an excess of alcohol, drugs, and a good amount of egotistical douches.
I personally like listening to dub step, metal, punk, ska, and many many others. music is awesome. the song I listen to at any given moment does not define me as a person. people need to stop being so uptight about it.

I don't get it.......other then not being added to the Atherton label.....it seemed that Marc was equaly represented in that video. I think people allready had their minds made up that he's getting the shaft before this vid came out....which could be possible, but to me not represented here. I don't think there was any riding shots of Rachel......is she getting shafted too???

I would say; if ever you were to make a relatively niche sport appeal to fat kids who like WWE and XBOX then this really does work. GT have paid the Athertons truckloads of money to boost their potential in a hard sales environment; when Marc is a serious contender against Gwinn, Minaar etc, he will also get a similar offer and publicity. He is a solid performer, his position on the team is recognition for that. If it was your team and your money to spend on PR, you'd do exactly the same.
tbh i see what everybody means with the whole 'marc seems like a third wheel' thing, but you have to remember that the athertons are a brand label, not just seperate riders who happen to be siblings. theyre a brand, so gt is obviously gonna show that strongly. marc has been doing fine on his own with gt for however long now, i don't see that the athertons joining gt is gonna have any major impact on him whatsoever
you've got a good point but before the Atherton's joined team GT I didn't know who Marc was (yes I am an ignorant swine). Now that I do and see the Atherton's have the limelight and notice this "other guy"...I dunno, for me personally it kind of hurts their brand. their seems to be a fair bit of drama around them in a 'reality show' kind of way whereas now Marc looks like a no-nonsense rider by comparison. He just seems to get on with it. who knows maybe this will boost his numbers.

all this yellow powder is a bit much but a good vid all the same. marc does look like his on the back seat abit but you cant take anything away for the athertons they are bloody good riders and Rachael does look fine
I'm kinda on the fence with the Athertons gee , racheal and Dan all just looked better on the commercial team and gt just seems like a sell out company that just wanted to make more money. To be completely honest I think that the GT fury doesn't look like its fun to ride like I'm aware that it's carbon but something just doesn't look right. But I thought the editing in the video was absoulutly amazing so good job !!
This video was ok. It looks like its trying too hard to be cool though.. and poor Marc! I love how Dan gets all this attention and for what?!?!?! Either way, I'm still looking forward to the 2012 season with the Athertons on board. I really enjoy watching Gee and Rachel.

Everytime the athertons change their kit im not to sure if i like it or not, at the moment im not to keen on this yet. i am deffinatly not too keen on the moto helmets and i feel so sorry for marc, im still a massive fan and hope they have an amazing season

In all fairness, although Marc is being sidelined a good bit, he got longer than Dan and Rach in that video if it means anything, Clay seems to like him anyway. Good vid.

that's what i'm trying to find out now on geoladders. the article says Newport Beach, and from a previous GT article on Pinkbike they said they trained in Laguna Beach as well, which is where Telonics trail is. this is probably a different trail network close to Laguna but in Newport Beach.
The first part is from the Elsinore downhill trail off the Ortega highway. The second part is from the trail called Skidmarx (you tube skidmarx dh) its coming down the mountain from the La Cresta area. Not sure about the last part though...

I love the Athertons as much as the next person but I agree that this was so over the top. The moody photo press release (remember all flannel and b/w) and now this.... I feel like the marketing for this team is so far away from what dh biking is supposed to be: fun! real! fast! But maybe I'm just old school and everyone else loves the slow-mo yellow powder face dub-steppiness of this sort of marketing. hmmm....
Also, weren't the Athertons yellow/black when they were on Giant (circa 2005)? The One kits are nice.

I disagree with rbka. I think the video was very creative... original... avant-garde even! And all of the team members were evenly represented and it really is all about the bike riding and racing.

Fail by me there, yeah I watched it afterwards to make sure I hadn't missed anything great. Some nice riding and good to see Dan is getting geared nicely up for his enduro season. Still, just another over blown edit surely made to excite teenage boys with loud music, bright colours and slow motion jumps. Woot.
