who the f*ck would want to ride a hardtail; so gay
  • 63 3
alot of people ht is far from gay if i ever knewor seen you riding i would rip passed you on my hardtail..
  • 78 2
Not everyone can afford to buy and maintain a full suspension. I actually enjoy riding my ht.
  • 68 1
I don't understand what he means by "so gay." Does he mean gay as in happy or gay as in homosexual? Unless those guys are actually homosexual, I guess he means so happy. That seems right to me because of how much of fun they are having.
  • 25 0
@ibikerday nothing about mtb is gay. hating is though. continue shuttling your dh or pushing it uphill as long as you want. being able to whip a light as hell bike around corners and small hits always does the job for me. actually works every time.
  • 24 0
Ask anyone who's an authority on Mountain biking.. i.e. a Pro Elite. They'll tell you (as will I) that riding HT makes you a far better, faster and more competent rider. So, I can't see why you'd think that being good at something you supposedly love to do is gay
  • 13 6
@colethompson please don't sink to his level of using the word 'gay' as an insult
  • 20 1
if u can only have 1 bike then i would have a hardtail. its good for everything. dont forget ur arms and legs are the best bit of suspension ur ever gna get so lern to use em
  • 8 0
I have a Ragley Troof with a Domain out front, and I'm sorry, but it's honestly good for everything but cliff-hucking and full-on DH runs. HT LOVE FOREVER!
  • 3 0
iv got a full suss for gnarlier tracks and a hardtail for smoother tracks like 4x and dirt jump but i sometimes ride the hardtail DH as its so fun it doesnt really matter to me
  • 11 0
Whenever I see a rider down the trails, they are still riders, irrespective of the bike they ride. If they were riding a hardtail on the downhill tracks I respect them, they put me to shame sometimes!
  • 13 0
I didn't know bikes had sexual orientations, but that might explain why my bike likes me so much, haha Wink
  • 6 0
If you love your bike, your bike will love you back!
  • 7 1
who is this ibikerday a*shole? he's such a hater... he shouldn't even be on pinkbike!
  • 8 1
The only gay thing about this video is there matching outfits
  • 3 3
I ride for Stanton Bikes and also own a Norco DH bike...The Slackline is so much more fun, and i'd chose riding that over my DH bike anyday!
  • 20 0
This is the 3rd thing iBikeERday has called gay on pinkbike in the last couple of days. I think someone's a little insecure about their manhood.
  • 2 0
I started riding with a GT avalanche i now ride a dartmoor phantom and a mondraker summum absolutely love them both but the dartmoor cannot be beaten! much love,

iBikeERday.. I've ridden ht my entire life, and love it. Do us all favour and go shove someone's willy in your mouth and shut up. Chubzy Wubzy is 100% right. That's the reason I don't have a full dh, I can't afford it. Even though I really want one because full dh suspension because they look INSANLY fun, I'm sticking to my ht. it's like a fully and BMX in 1. So useful and SO much fun. Thanks Salute
  • 3 0
I rode ht for the first few years that I rode downhill. Made me a much more flowy rider and holy fuck its fun to rip down a dh trail with 4 inches of hard ass travel. makes you appreciate a dh bike much more. So ibikeerday, your just trolling go biking for fuck sakes, put your bike where your mouth is
  • 6 0
hartail or FS, your choice, but i personally think everyone should at least learn on a hartail before getting a full suspension. theres no better way to learn that kind of control and flow than on a hardtail. great job on the edit!!

 Hardtail IS GAY?????????
www.pinkbike.com/video/263251
  • 3 1
i ride hardtail. love it. but if i could have only one bike in the world....p slope. THAT does everything. cant wait. gonna be the only guy in NZ with one.
  • 2 3
Spandex can get a little Gay! LOL
  • 3 0
If you live in an area with no real DH tracks i.e. south east England, then there's not much point spending £3000+ on a DH bike. Especially if u can't afford it then HT is the way to go!
  • 1 1
@Augs p-slopes look sick but there are much better slope bikes on the market for less money.
  • 2 0
did they win a pump track challenge at whistler? difference between it and say, killswitch, rampant, proto, konig, shine, bottlerocket, is that you can ride it anywhere. skatepark, djs, trails. and they are totally good lookin bikes.
  • 2 1
this guy is such a dick, i ride DH when i can, and go out for a spin on the XC bike after school, i adore both, my hardtail is fun, cause its cheap to mess around on, whilst giving you the core skills to go faster on a DH bike,

and also, if he thinks hardtails are "gay" he clearly just thought it was cool and bought a DH bike first, and started looking down at people cause it has carbon on the frame.
  • 1 0
@Augs killswitch has a pretty hardtail feel...
  • 1 0
@DandelionDan- less then $2200? isn't that how much bearclaw said they would be starting at?
  • 2 0
ibikerday you dont deserve to live in whistler...
  • 38 0
This is a perfect example of how you actually don't need that 5000 dollar DH bike that you want. This is such an awesome/original video, good job guys.
  • 15 0
Thanks man! It goes right in my heart! (Not too gay for some people I hope...)
  • 2 0
HT s rip on smooth trails, do what you love, who cares what other losers think.
  • 31 0
 26inch hardtail FTW
  • 7 2
f*cking Specialized dropped all their 26 Stumpy hardtails to make 29ers. I mean I respect 29" wheels, but that shouldn't be the only kind they make.
  • 3 1
You can't hardly find a 26inch hard tail in a shop these days... most of the big companies don't even make them unless you want the dirt cheap crap parts or youth bikes
  • 2 0
Great video! Can't wait to build my Kona Chute back up and start ripping it again. HT riders deserve respect!
  • 3 0
But there's there's lots of great frames out there, it's a really nice thing to have one built up to your exact choice, even better to build it yourself. I love the fact that no-one has the exact same bike as me, it may not have the blingest parts but it rides so nice!
  • 17 0
Really makes me wanna buy a hardtail again. Not gonna lie those Chromags are looking sweet!
  • 3 0
Not a Chromag, but a Genesis Alpitude in Cherry red: www.genesisbikes.co.uk/bikes/frames/alpitude

Man I remember seeing the articles in the British MTB Mag's about the hardtails they have with 160mm forks etc. Would be awesome to get some over here, then again I may be in the minority. I do miss my HT, if I were to get one I may have to fly to the UK and get one of their All-Mountain frames and mount up a 160 Fork. Maybe an Orange - Crush (140 Fork). Plus it seems I saved money, not to mention weight with the HT.
  • 2 0
I'm running a Cotic BFe. EU Imports in PA carry them. 160mm 55 Micro Ti fork. It weighs a hair under 29 lbs with a FR/AM type build. The new ones come with 1.5" HT, ISCG tabs and dropper post guides. Can run a 180mm rotor. About $600. Thing is so nice. I don't really miss suspension, as long as the post is dropped. And it climbs any hill and is stiff as all get out in the BB area.
  • 3 0
 Cotic BFe all the way
  • 2 0
The vibe in this video is the exact reason that no matter how many other bikes I acquire, I'm never going to sell my Santa Cruz Chameleon... and if I break it, I'ma buy another one. It's just way too much fun to rip trails on a hardtail sometimes.
  • 1 0
 Orange Subzero all day long!
  • 14 0
Why are people making out that you have to choose between HT and full suss? Can we not love both? I really enjoyed the vid- nose mannys FTW.
  • 1 0
i agree. i have an ht and a full sus. they're not top notch but i love 'em both
  • 1 0
Totally agree, plus you can build up a pretty sweet HT on a lower budget and it requires less maintenance after wet or bad weather rides.
  • 10 0
that looks like so much fun, you really nailed the vibe of riding a hardtail! nice job guys!
  • 4 0
This video is old, isn't it? I feel like I've seen it before (last year?)... Maybe same trails same guys but a different edit?

It doesn't alter the fact that it's awesome! Great edit, great riding and especially awesome to see guys shredding hardtails like that!
  • 1 0
Yes I also wathced this while ago, but this is with different song and style of edit
  • 1 0
I was wondering the same thing like I had seen this edit before.
  • 1 0
This video is old, from this spring in fact, but I just added the shaperideshoot intro before replace it on Pinkbike. It's the same song and the same edit.
  • 3 0
Sweet!! I would be bruised and battered riding a hard tail down the trails. Reminds us how spoiled we are with full suspension bikes. Definitely takes more skills. My buddy rides a hard tail downhill and he'll do it with meaning! He's a heck of a lot better rider than me, that's for sure. Great video! Added it to my faves!
  • 3 0
Great video. I started out on a decent CX 26'er HT and after bending a few rims (and a million pinch flats...) I learned to use my limbs for suspension and it made me 10 times better. Plus, there's nothing like the aching hands you get after a long downhill bomb on a HT with a 100mm fork Wink

Since I got a FS bike I've been missing my HT setup, sure its awesome to float over rocks and roots but I like the direct feel you get a with a HT. It's like you can feel the terrain so much better, not to mention being lighter weight and more pedal efficient. I don't know what people are talking about not being able to handle a full-on DH trail with a HT, just take your time, inspect your lines before riding, and grow some balls (or ovaries).
  • 5 0
Those trails are perfectly suited for HTs - non tech and flowy. Of course that would be a blast. Every technology has its application.
  • 5 0
Brings me back to my roots of shredding DH trails on my Specialized rock hopper!
  • 2 0
Yeeee buddy, same with me the first 3 years of mountain shred. Learning to negotiate lines and use limb suspension has helped incredibly. Now I'm bombing my FS 6 inch faster than most of the dedicated DH rigs. Then when I hop on 8 inches (no gay pun intended), it's like having galactic super powers.
  • 3 0
Definitely. Riding an HT first sooo beneficial in the long run. Peopple that just jump straight to FS just don't get the same skills.
  • 2 0
I'm with @lil-Chris. I run a slackline and I love it. I also had a giant glory and much rather ridey Hardtail because it just seemsore in contact with the trai. Saying HT's are gay is just him asking for attention. Ignore him and let Jim be an ignorant f*ck. Everyone else just ride on
  • 2 0
Why do I ride a hardtail?
1. They are are super light and chuckable (try riding down a knarly trail then having to ride back up on your full d/h rig! No lifts here in the UK!)
2. A decent hardtail frame starts around the same price as a mediocre full sus frame!
3. They are mechanically simple and frankly I don't need anything else! A hardtail built to your own spec is a truly special thing! I may buy other bikes in my life but I hope I don't ever have to get rid of my current hardtail!
  • 2 0
Definately rocks. Seen this video way earlier this year on the Genesis Facebook page, nice to finally see Pinkbike feature it cause it's a great video! Really shows the fun and energy of riding hardtail, no matter how good a rider you are.
I ride an Alpitude myself and it's the best and prettiest (check out my pics) hardtail I've owned so far. It made me sell my Ragley Mmmbop if that means anything...

haha is this the season of bike movies/edits stealing songs from ski movies/edits and vise-versa; super heros of stoke took radioactive from strenght in numbers, grand bizarre took we are rebels from follow me, this song was in revolver and loficries was in an edit thats on the homepage!!!!

I recently picked up a 2012 Charge blender on sale and love it, lucky i got it then as it seems Charge have dropped the blender from there 2012 range and gone heavy on 29" like a lot of other companies.
  • 1 0
Hardtails are good training to ensure you keep that back end in check, I'll ride my hardtail hard and as fast as I can the twitchier the better then when I get on my DH bike it's alot Easyer to keep check of the back end, I think anyway!
  • 3 0
sick as another hardtail rider this is awesome to see people still rocking ht

i got a full suspension bike this summer, and forgot about my hardtail until last week... i forgot how much fun these things can be! im riding HT all fall long!!!
  • 1 0
what? hardtails represent...; esp in dirt jump, 4-cross and slopestyle, and they send it. even for DH, it is all a matter of how smooth the track is and how much fun you can have flicking your light ride down the trail...
  • 1 0
great vid. I know that if I am ever in tough financial times, I should still be able to afford a hardtail to keep the habit going. Some of those slack 29'ers look like they are fun!
  • 3 0
 So rad!! Hardtail shred!!!

Where and how would I go about building a bike like one of these in the U.S.? Seems like they'd fit the style of riding I'd want to do and maybe my price range also.

best DH hartail out there!
  • 2 0
 Beautiful!
My only issue is the std. 1.125" headtube... I like tapered forks, and longer travel forks are generally stiffer with the 1.5" standard being applied, either as a taper, or full length.

Still.. I love the paint and the bracing up front is wicked!
  • 1 0
im sure they can custom you a 1.5 headtube.. the belter ripper prototype has a 1.5 headtube on.. but thta might just be the prototype...
  • 1 0
This weekend I will be mostly building a bike a little bit like these. Cannot wait! Feeling the HT love Smile

Solid vid...but i still think the riding is a little weak....or maybe i just prefer more jumps and drops. All I ride is a hardtail cuz i just dont feel like spending the cash yet for an sx trail or something, but honestly i feel i shred harder than these guys on my HT. Guess it helps coming from a BMX/dirt jumping background.
