Hello Whistler! Summertime Dirt Jumping!

I always spend extra time editing my videos because editing can influence a lot when creating the overall look, feel and quality of the video. In this video I have spent extra time editing to create the fun and upbeat feel to it and for the effects that you see at 2:41-3:20. In case you don't know how I did the editing from that section, I had the camera sitting on the tripod filming for a while in each angle so that I could get lots of riders going through the jumps to work within the shots. I used After Effects to mask out the riders in each of the shots and put them into the background of the exact same shot but from a different point in time when there was no riders in the shot, so that I had a clean background to work with. Basically I was editing to all the digital vocal stutters, and I really wanted it to look very interesting and fun and quirky, so it took me a good deal of time to just get those parts figured out.

I filmed this video on two different days in the summer, one day during Crankworx, which is a great time to film there because there are so many good riders hitting the jumps. I wanted to get a lot of footage of guys training the jumps with a lot of tricks in there too. I was hoping to get more footage, but I never found the time for that to happen.

Yes I know that this song has been used before in some videos, I hate re-using songs too, but I honestly chose this song back in February a little after it came out, before any other video used this song! And then after hearing the song a number of times I got the idea for this video!

 Can see where you were going with the idea, but it wasn't that well done. It just looked tacky in the end. Things didn't align up and you had lighter patches behind people. Its nice to edit videos to the music but that was taking it a bit far!

Each to their own, thats just not the style of video I prefer. I'm sure others will disagree!

 I dont really like the song but as a technical exercise i thought you did a great job. i dont get what jezzah says about it not aligning, some bits were supposed to be slightly out of time to form a sort of wave type thing with the guys at various stages of the jump. From what i saw the editing fitted in perfectly with the music at that part as well. I quite liked it Smile

 The riders occasionally moved a small amount putting the trees in their background etc out of line quite noticeably

 yeah, didn't really do it for me. The whole stuttering effect was kinda not very well executed and over done in the vid. but it's always good to try things out to see how the work.

 ya the wind moved the trees so thats why they are not always lined up with some riders, and there was dust from riders too, which made it harder to create the effect convincing. And basically I was just editing to the vocals in that crazy part, I guess I just thought it would work because the rest of the video is kinda edited in a fast paced quirky way but ya thats just how I see it.

 i dont care what anyone says ive been doing some editing in my video class in school and for him to edit that the way it was done must have took a long ass time and a ton of skill so props man. and its also so unique. i get kinda bored of the same old edits it was definately refreshing

 I forgot to add in that I am in the middle of making a Short Film right now! It is about riding in the fall and winter seasons and I think it will be totally epic! so look out for that early next year! and like my facebook page!

 i like how you put that little twist on there but I felt it was a bit excessive and prolonged. Great job otherwise! I've done a little bit of video editing and i can tell that must've been a tedious job to get that effect together.

 cool concept. well done.. as with anything new, some tweaks could be made, but hey, great job. You have to put it out there to have a starting point. it's easy to "monday morning quarterback" and make suggestions on a final piece, but to have the vision and the skills to pull it off from nothing is a noteworthy achievement. good song choice too. works well with concept. congrats on your VOD!

 never seen so many panning and still shots of dirt jumps as in this long intro! hahah
and the glitchy thing was weird in my opinion, especially with that little 'halo' of distortion around each rider. other than that, it was an average video. overused song. the riders are good!

 I totally agree with you on this. I dont usually watch dj videos either for the same reason. i thought I would have a look because boostmaster made it. I really enjoy his videos! Keep them coming, and see you at Ledgeview!
