by Jon Faure
Feb 10, 2010
James Visser is an up and coming slopestyle/dirtjump competitor who is looking to leave his mark during the 2010 season, I was able to catch up with James to get this interview about his sponsors and goals for 2010. He currently resides in San Diego, California and recently signed with Division 26. Here is a quick interview to see who else he is riding for in 2010 as well as some awesome pictures and video from the 2009 season!
Please open and get to know James just a little bit better!

Best of 2009 video!
Most recent video on the norco 250!
To start things off let us know a little bit about yourself?
My name is James Visser and I am currently living in Ramona, California (San Diego county) and I am 17 years of age. I have been riding mountain bikes since I was about 13 but mostly just rode downhill until the age of 15 when I switched to DJ and I slowly began to progress towards slopestyle!
What companies are you riding for the 2010 season?
For 2010 I will be on the factory division 26 team so I am super stoked to be with them and support them to the best of my abilities! I will also be riding for the Bike Works which is a shop in Ramona, California (everyone in SD needs to check them out!), and I will also be riding for the Norco bikes grassroots team so a huge thanks goes out to them for helping me out!
That's sweet!! What bikes will you be riding for the 2010 season?
My bikes for 2010 are my Norco Empire 5 which will be serving as my slopestyle bike, then for my hardtail I will be on a Norco 250 frame with my own build on it, and last but not least for my downhill bike I will be on my Norco A-line!
Which of these bikes would you say is your favorite, and which would you say you will be riding the most?
I would definitely say that my Empire 5 is my favorite bike just because I can ride everything on it. I can start the day off with some rough downhill, then ride some all mountain, and end it at the dirt jumps! This bike does it all! As for which bike I ride the most that would have to go to my hardtail (norco 250) just because I spend most of my riding time at the dirt jumps!
I know that you are planning to do a good number of contest's in 2010, would you like to give a little insight on which contests you will be attending?
Yes! This year I am for sure going to attend Crankworx CO. so I am super stoked on that! I would also like to go to the Claymore Challenge and the Teva Mountain Games! And as for DJ and park contests I will be attending all the Escondido skate park contests and all the dirt jumping contests that I can make it out to! Like the Folsom Fam Jam and all of the dirt contests in SD and at DA compound which is in Lake Perris California!
What were some of the highlights of your 2009 season?
Some of the highlights were winning the Escondido skatepark contest in the 16 and under advance class (I was against all BMX'ers!) so that was definitely super sick! I also took third place at the Da compound dirt contest in the expert class (also against all bmx'ers!) and just progressing past what I ever imagined I would on a bike!
Here are a couple pics of me riding in the contest at the Escondido skate park:
Wow! Sounds like a crazy year! What are some of your goals for the 2010 season?
My goals are just to do good at all contests, stay safe and try to stay away from injuries and to support all of my sponsors to the best of my abilities! I would really like to do good at Crankworx Colorado so I'd say my biggest goal is just to do well there! I also want to strive to be a positive influence in the biking world and ride for the most important reason fun! I see far too many riders these days riding just for the sole purpose of going pro and making it into all the movies...I have found that this just takes the fun out of riding and it burns a lot of riders out.
Any new tricks you want to learn for this year?
Yes there always is! I would like to get tailwhips on lockdown and then start to do flip whips. I would also like to get my 360 flips dialed in and I really want to land at least one double backflip before 2010 is over! I also am looking to learn how to 360 drops and learn a whole bunch of tricks off drops. I am going to spend a lot of time on bigger jumps to get used to them and I would really like to get a good step down to do tricks on!
Favorite bands?
Rise against, 30 seconds to mars, Cage the elephant!
Movies?
All the NWD's for sure! Out cold, Fast times at Ridgemont high!
Anything more you would like to add before wrapping up this interview?
Yes there is! I would like to say that 2009 was a great year and I was able to progress so much more than I ever thought I was capable of on a bike. It was a great year where I learned so much about biking and I am looking to keep the progression going for 2010! Follow my year here on my Pinkbike account jamisbowtech.pinkbike.com!
Thank you very much for doing this interview with me! Anyone you would like to thank?
Yes! I would really like to thank God for watching over me and keeping me injury free the whole year! If it weren't for him I guarantee I wouldn't be where I am at now! And of course my awesome parents for supporting me all these years and helping me to get to where I am today and of course a big thanks to Division 26, The Bike Works, and Norco bikes! Can't thank all these people enough and just all the people who have helped me get to where I'm at today, thank you!
