The West Coast of British Columbia has everything to offer the avid mountain biker, assuming you can deal with the weather. From the flowy trails of the Sunshine Coast to the white-knuckled descents of the North Shore, the riding locations all vastly differ despite being geographically close. In this video, Stephen Matthews gets aboard the new DH 9000 from Ghost Bikes to find his flow in all types of trail environments.

Nothing special but great style, flow and so much fun to watch. No slow motion overkill and that last shot...
Do you need a new camera? Big Grin

Recipe for a cool movie: take a short ride anywhere in BC. Make a short edit form that ride and upload it to the pinkbike. Whatever your ride style is, if you have some skills or not you will always look like a pro and it would be fun to watch. Fact Smile

ps; bright tld pj's and fox 40 with KC are also helpfull but not necessary
  • 15 3
Ok good to know. Keep on uploading those edits I'll watch them all. On a sidenote I think in this case both rider and filmmaker have some nice skills.

Calm down. My comment wasn't hitting neither rider or film maker, what I meant was in general. BC is amazing place to ride and look. So chill out or you will kick the bucket to early cause of irritability.
  • 14 1
I understood your comment. Mine was meant positive too. I'm not the kind of guy that wants to start a fight on the pinkbike comment section. johnyyy it was my fault, I should have made a smiley. I hope someday we can ride in BC together and just be happy Big Grin
Chillin out now! Wink

I'm not a massive fan of his style, bit jerky. But enjoyed the vid, trail looks so much fun!

Stephen was my guide for a Big Mtn Adventure at Ten Quille in Pemberton last season. Fast, stylish, and extremely nice. Such a great ride with a great guy!

Haha, sweet edit! Great style for sure but the ending segment was crazy! I hope the camera wasn't to expensive!

neg proppers have both bright tld pajamas and latest bling 40's AND are in bc yet still fail to be cool.

Hey young guns, look at attending Quest University in Squamish... minutes from the trailheads of great trails, and an hour from Whistler. A fairly unique setup for classes for you who are highly motivated academically and love to ride.

I recognize that truck from a recent video about how much faster a guy is. Lol

 Nice riding.

I have a Ghost SE 3000 hardtail (from MEC Toronto) I come from road riding and I just got into MTB at the end of last season so I didn't want to break the bank.
It has an OK spec for $700 bucks, there's no way I could of gotten the same spec on a bike from the other big names at that price, I do find the bike heavy (thanks to the fork) and I've already replaced the crankset in favor of something a little lighter. But realistically it's decent for a beginner, the plan is to ride it until it implodes

I think their FS offerings to be a little overpriced, if I was to spend that much on a new ride I would probably go to a Trek Fuel, then again maybe this year's spec is a little better than the big names for the same price.

Got an SE 3000 myself in November. Love the ride. Great pricepoint for the package. Plus you gotta love MEC's rock solid guarentee...
  • 1 0
Just a warning though, I wouldn't try what the guy in the video is doing on a fuel. I have one and do some very light freeriding. I've cracked the swingarm twice.

Scouse: If yours came with the Suntour XCM fork like mine, you can call Suntour and get a lighter spring and removal tool like I did, the fork actually works now, but I'm a 155 Lb roadie Smile just be ready to mod the internal caps that go on the top and bottom of the spring so that they fit (a box cutter worked, you just have to trim the plugs a little...worked like a charm)...Total cost $30 bucks

Still heavy as an anchor, but I gotta earn my stripes

All these sweet trails through superb forestry, theres one bad thing about it all. Your ripping through so fast, you dont get the chance to soak up all the stunning scenery. Good video though, I enjoyed it.
  • 1 0
There is the ride to the top... Generally a bit slower for most of us than the ride down, with time to contemplate our surroundings. Just wish I could throw the 'Nelson like that. I just ended up getting pinned when I rode it.
  • 1 0
Bro, in my case thats incorrect, im nearly as fast going up as I am coming downWink
  • 6 0
In the flow zone at 2:00-2:07 - I love that feeling.
  • 2 0
Yeah, I also thought that part was awesome.
  • 3 0
Wow. The guy rides like he's on a snappy trail bike. I wonder if it's the bike, him or a combination of the two. Fun trail/session.
  • 2 0
It's the rider, and a combination of both, but mostly the rider..You put me on a bike like that and it's a comedy show Smile

Im really interested in these bikes. Currently riding Santa cruzes. I am wondering about the Ghost equivalent to the Nomad. Just wondering if anyone has ridden the ghost AM. And by ridden i mean ridden like an AM is supposed to be ridden.
  • 1 0
Currently building a Ghost DH (2011) with Fox40, RC4 and all other goodies. This video just gave me the extra boost to slap all the missing components on the credit card so I can ride this spring.

MEC is a SOLID store. Ghost bikes are a great addition to their line up. Have not seen DH models yet. Some models seem to be overpriced and reviews are ghostly. Designs remind me of Kona and Norco combined together.
  • 4 0
MEC's actually going to sell dh bikes now? Sweeeeeeeeeet.
  • 1 0
If they are its because the membership demand was there for them to do it. But they're not as of yet listed on the website (though the 650B Cagua is) as being an offered models. Ghost has two appropriate models, the Northshore with a long travel singlecrown and the DH 9000 is what is featured in the video it looks like. The thing with corporate made/sponsored advertising videos like this though is often you'll see bikes that your local ghost dealers won't actually be carrying.
  • 3 0
If anyone wants a bike from Ghost that MEC doesn't carry just give the MEC Service Center a call at 1.888.847.0770. They can hook you up with any ghost bike and the pricing is very reasonable. It is a lot better then ordering a ghost from the UK and paying duties and shipping!
  • 1 0
Will the response really be different if I call? I am probably going to get a DH bike at the start of the next season so I will keep their number handy.

"Thank you for contacting MEC regarding Ghost bikes.

At this time, we are unable to special order any bikes from Ghost. The only bikes we carry are what are showing available on MEC.ca. I apologize for the inconvenience.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask."

If the price is right I want the DH 7000.

I wanna see videos of guys who suck in BC. Any links of wanna-be's?
  • 9 0
 I could probably provide something.

You guys should go through my profile and please comment on everything! I post all this stuff and get views, but I want feedback. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks!
  • 5 0
Agreed...We need some pro videos of people sucking on bikes, so I can feel better about my riding Sadly, I'm not kidding
  • 3 0
Braaap, bra! Awesome shredding as usual, Stephen. One thing though, before you went riding, what you make for breakfast?
  • 3 0
I've seen these Ghost bikes at MEC and they look really good. The quality is amazing and the price is very fair.

 Song name, please?
  • 1 0
 it was blue angus stone
  • 6 0
Angus Stone almost covering 'I wanna be your Dog"...

Stephen Matthews is made of rubber,,,
  • 2 0
 That song rocked!
  • 1 0
What I was thinking the whole time
  • 2 0
Ja, take out the Dylan-on-acid vocals and you basically have an ambient "I....Dog" (the ultimate post-ride track)
  • 1 0
That looks like one fun trail. Those damn loggers better stop where they're at and stay away from it.
  • 1 0
This was logged years ago,and loggers left the green belt for the most part. Think they worked actively with the local Mountainbike community, and much of the trails were spared from complete destruction....loggers have to make a living too.alot of trails here are built on woodlots...so just a matter of time.
