The 4X main event started at 9PM in almost completely dark conditions, there were lights on the course, but not nearly enough, and riders really struggled to see in a few places. Combine that with all the photographers flashes going off and I'm amazed that everyone made it down the course. I decided to test out the high iso capabilities of the Nikon D3s and shot the entire race with available light. No flash, in the dark, ISO 25600 or higher. Here's how it turned out...

i totally agree, personally i would love to see more DH bike oriented courses though, or atleast courses like last night where you could ride it on either, if everyone can do it on a hardtail i might as well watch a BMX race.

Graves lost a lot of speed braking for the inner side of the rock garden (was using the new xtr race brakes instead of the old ones...) it was a killer overtake dough, a fast and clean line.

yeah he didn't want to get passed on the inside, decided to protect it, and I don't think he even considered he would be passed on the outside through the rock garden...

Hey Ian , I saw you taking pictures and I was wondering how your pictures would look since you were almost the only one without a flash. Turns out not bad considering ISO 25600 !!

Yeah, moving around with flashes is a lot more work, and most of the riders were having a hard time seeing in the dark even before everyone started popping flashes in their faces, I just decided to see what the camera could do...
