Mark first told me about a line he was building some 18 months ago; jumbo-sized, dirt jump style hits through a forest of cedar and ferns. I came out for a couple build days every few months and was amazed every time by what he had managed to accomplish, largely by himself. Local guys would come out and put in an afternoon here and there but Mark was out rain or shine putting in work. Almost nightly photo updates kept me anxious to see the finished product in person and with Summer sunshine creeping up on us we needed to pull the trigger and get some shooting underway. Stars aligned and just two weeks ago we started collecting our first shots. 3 more days shooting, mostly early mornings and we were finally piecing together the last bits of each line. It's bittersweet finishing a project like this; 18 months culminating in 1 week of shooting. It's almost anti-climactic, but it's also one of the best parts of finishing; the need to create something bigger and better next time. After all, you reap what you sow.

A couple cable cam setups were used to get some unique perspectives for the video. Here's Aaron double checking the angle.

To see jumps like that, largely built by just him, that is a definition of the word dedication.

If Aaron LaRocque shat out a full length DVD I just might die a little, hopefully not too much dying will happen so I can still watch it. I'd say this video is TITS but there really needs to be a new word to define LaRoque videos....

"A lot of work and digging" on that trail is an under statement, my doubles aren't that huge and it's taken forever to pile. Mad props! Love the video and trail!

Funny how when I saw the Aaron LaRocque logo at the end I was like: "Oh, that explains why that was so good." HAHA! And the rider is nuts! That blind stepdown must take some balls.

the filming was amazing, nice work, the trail must have took alot of work some of those jumps were big!
[Reply]
  • + 3
that was so sweet. I wanna see it in 3D, avatar style...the depth of the forest would look so good .
  • + 2
...actually, without using two cams, the "dolly" shots and the "cable cam" shots create pseudo-3D images ... It takes a while to learn to see it, but I was expecting to see some landspeeders pop into the shots!!

I think that might be the greatest trail EVER!!
[Reply]
  • + 1
how do they get the dirt there? do they haul it in or dig it or what?
  • + 1
Same question that came to my mind. Notice the side of the lip, you will notice a trench on the video (2:17), that would be the source of the dirt.
  • + 6
I got it from the ground. Lots of wheel barrow loads were involved and bucket loads of dirt. It was a slow going process. I also dug down in places and changed the landscape of the forest pretty extensively in a couple spots to make stuff work.. all hand dug (no machines). There was also lots of pockets of nice dirt in that forest...I got lucky! - Mark Matthews

Cool man. It's not luck man, you are one hardworking, dedicate dude (and a great rider, I might add) building that up.
