Last July Italian video maker Gianluca Ricceri followed Jérome Clementz (2010 Megavalanche winner) and Rémy Absalon (2011 Megavalanche winner) during the whole week that eventually led to THE race of the year. Enjoy!

About the Megavalanche
The grueling Megavalanche in l'Alpe d'Huez is a legend in its own right, a mass start downhill marathon, starting from the Pic Blanc glacier 3.300 meters above sea level. About 2.000 riders take part each year in July in l'Alpe d'Huez . More than 30 nationalities are represented.

About Bluegrass
The origin of the legend of the Bluegrass Eagle has been lost in the passage of time. Possessing supernatural powers, it could transform its plumage into an impenetrable carapace. Its spirit, noble and free, has inspired our range of protective gear.

About the Bluegrass video production
The Bluegrass video production series tells an inspiring story about dedicated individuals and teams whom with passion and energy actively participate in the development of the Bluegrass products through the entire racing season. But it is not just about racing, it is about people and culture. In short it perfectly mirrors the soul of the Bluegrass Eagle.

Ive done the Mega for 3 years running and to be honest, it hasn't gotten any easier! In a way, its like a mile stone. You have to do it at least once to call yourself a Mountain Biker. The next step is the Mountain of Hell!

I rode the first mini trail in this video "blind" up to 2mins 20sec. I don't do drops and that 8ft drop at the end felt like something at Rampage!

If you haven't, GET TO THE MEGA!

Still can't believe dude won on a single speed hardtail 26er with a Suntour fork!
  • 7 1
Haha, that's what I have for a winter beater. It's not the bike that makes a winner!
  • 3 0
 who had it???
  • 4 0
Chris Akrigg did it with his fork locked out once and finished 7th. What a beast.

 @mkul7r4
You are talking about Frank Schneider.
He won the Masters Challenger in 58mn 50sec (he is master 30, 30 years old and +), not the actual Mega (won by Remy Absalon in 41mn 19sec).
He was on a singlespeed hardtail (www.bikemag.com/news/guy-wins-megavalanche-division-on-singlespeed-hardtail)

Any idea why Jerome would have a gripshift on his left hand grip!? I believe he was running XX1, so what did he use it for!!?
  • 2 0
I believe he uses it instead of the standard lever to switch the travel on his rear shock.
  • 1 0
Got to that conclusion also after looking a bit closer at all of the cables! Just thought it was a bit strange..!

I'm on the other side of the would so the mega is just a fantasy for me. Whistler, then france, then the mega. Now that's a holiday.

  • 1 0
 Now that's a pile up!
  • 1 0
 Music anyone?
  • 1 2
Sorry to moan, but that video was really dull. The Mega is actually very exciting - honestly!
  • 1 0
 what are you talking about
  • 2 1
Yeah. My thoughts too. For one of the most incredible races in the world this was a dull video. Too much wib wub, ultra slow mo of nothing, eating breakfast, more wib wubs, french, and sunglasses inside a full face helmet (so wrong!)...

sunglasses dont fog up as easily as goggles.. i saw a lot of them this year running shades.. my goggles fogged up on the climbs.. really annoying..
  • 1 1
Pull all the foam "filters" or whatever they are out of the bottom/sides of the goggles. BOOM! Fogging problem solved AND you can continue looking like a boss instead of having sore temples and looking like a dork Razz
  • 2 0
sir i do not aggree with you.. for one .. i am not ruining my goggles.. seconds.. are you a part of the anti-shade movement.. ?
