While on our way up to Darren Berrecloth's event in Mount Washington, Mike Montgomery's Banshee Legend DH bike and Banshee Rampant Slope Bike were stolen out of the back of his truck. The truck was parked in a hotel parking lot full of lights and security cameras. The bikes were also locked to the truck and to the other bikes. Also stolen was a Saracen Myst DH bike on loan from Saracen Designer Ryan Carroll. The funny thing is that Mike's Banshee Amp is still on the empty rack. I guess the people responsible can tell when a bike has been beaten and left it for dead.
If you see any of these one of a kind bikes contact Nanaimo Police or the lovely people at Pinkbike.

The bikes are pretty similar to the pictures but have had several custom things done to them. They should be easy to spot, so if you see any of these bikes give the Nanaimo Police a call or message me on Pinkbike.

This situation really sucks, and even more that these were custom bikes, that also probably took the guys at Banshee awhile to decal up. I hope you get them back. But, like said, from now on, bring your bikes in the hotel room. It's not that much of a PITA to do so (yea, maybe after a suicical long day of driving it is... but still).
Good luck boys. Keep your eyes peeled. Might want to get the bike bounty hunter cammy on this one =].
But.
He is most probably going to get all the kit replaced for free by his sponsor with just a couple of phone calls. There are thousands of bikes stolen every year and most of them are stolen from people who had to pay for them, often saving up for months in order to afford them. Certainly if my bike was stolen it would take at least a year for me to save enough money to replace it like for like and I bet most people reading this are in the same boat.
Furthermore
We only seem to get informed about thefts on Pinkbike when the bikes belong to pros or large corporations. Where's the stories about the little guys? You don't see stories about ordinary people whose bikes have been stolen on the front page here do you??
On the other hand, the thief in the movie looked like a pussy. He actually looked a little retarded with the helmet and his facial expressions. Some good punches and kicks and he won't do it again...
There's a large amount of Nanaimo's population - many of them Native Canadians - that live below the poverty line and/or are involved in drug abuse and crime. Chances are the thieves don't really care about who's bikes they were or if they're one of a kind.
I've had numerous bikes stollen from me over the years... I know how much it sucks. So I tend to be a bit paranoid about these things.... Hindsight is 20-20, but I would have brought the bikes inside.
Also... really sucks about the bike that was dedicated to cancer survivors. I would guess the thieves don't care much about that either, sadly.
And to the original OP, I wish I saw your post, as I basically posted the same thing above in the first comment string.
Lets just hope the bikes get returned, in ungutted form. And lets hope that they all learn their lesson from leaving shit locked to the truck.
So karma came back to me.... even though after the first stolen bike, the other three were legit.
I remember going to BCIT and coming out of classes for the day, dreaming about getting out of the city riding up grouse to get my peace of mind... only to find my bike stolen from the campus. Two locks, also gone (they do it clean...). I was devastated. That was the third ride I had stolen in 2 years. I also had my apartment broken in while I was at classes, but thanks to some nice neighbors, all my stuff including my damn futon, was saved but sitting in the alley when I got home.
and ja its a bummer his rides got stolen, but someone said it very well - he'll get all the bikes replaced, for free.
So a couple of thing were learned. dont stay over night at nanamio, pick hotels that are more bike fridntly, and get better locks.
but i have to say the mother fu%^@# who stole the bikes are complete a#$ h%$#@. ( dont want to get suspended from pb. )
But i hop the bikes get found soon and the bike burgular is punished and im invited to the celebration...
PS: I love my Banshee Scythe
I am in Nanaimo and will keep an eye out for the bikes - they should be pretty easy to spot if anyone is using them.
Gary.
They're dumbasses for leaving the bikes outside. If they couldn't bring them in their hotel room, they could've said that the bikes are worth alot and they don't want them to get stolen, then the hotel manager would've put them in a safe room.
Smarten the f*ck up, people.
Legit, bud. If you seriously think security cameras and a lock are going to stop theives with a determined attitude to steal bikes, you're a f*cking clown.
People need to stop thinking that they're god. No, you cannot leave your bike outside locked to a truck ANYWHERE, because it WILL get stolen.
I sit here and read about bikes getting stolen 24/7 in Nanaimo. I've caught a kid on a stolen bike in Nanaimo just this summer while I was there for a training camp. Do not sit here and tell me I am a dumbass for speaking my mind against these idiots that think a simple little lock will stop these moron bike theifs.
/Rant.
This is not arguing. This is me saying use some god damn logic, and carterwills being a complete asshat and not using any common sense. But, oh well. I'm gonna go leave my bike un-attended in Nanaimo, probably one of the most notorious places for theives, a bike lock will stop a theif no problem at all.
And what do you think your doing, Filip ? Your instigating me to make me argue against you. Good job, dude. I applaud people like you.
My statement here is that Mike is a complete idiot for leaving his bikes outside, unatended. No matter who you are, Gee Atherton or joe blow on the street. If you leave your bike un-attended and think a stupid little bike lock with stop people, you deserve to get your bikes stolen. If the Hotel wouldn't let the bikes in, you go to a different hotel that will - Oh look, common sense. Someone actually used it.
End of story.
Gary.
I cannot count how many times all pros at cworx walk away from their bikes. If i was a theif i vould have stolen several.
Either way really sad. Best of luck to u mike
On another note there are certain 'organised' gangs of theives/scammers there that do tarket big ticket items and re-sell. Those attacks have been well planned. Many businesses there have been on the ass end of that stick.
On a positive note the riding is very good, albeit underrated....
But seriously, hope they are found soon.
This looks pretty effective.
Oh, wait...
