I work for Halfords and we recently did a event where if people traded in their old bike they'd get 10% off a new one bought in store, then all the bikes we got brought in second hand were then sent off to Africa for those less fortunate. It's good to know you can make a small difference that to someone that really needs it!
Once in a while WE should take a moment and watch these kind of videos, so WE can reset our minds and be thankfull for all we have at our reach. And what WE have at our reach are powerful tools like internet to put our 2 cents to make this big ball a more equitative place.
Just makes me realise that i am really lucky to be able to enjoy bike riding. I think we need to stop being consumed in this never ending pit of upgrading and spending (in all aspects really) and just get out and enjoy it all whilst being thankful for what we have. Thank you Pedal Born Pictures for putting it all in perspective.
One of the most rewarding feelings I have experienced in my lifetime was donating to this program. It's amazing how $138 can change someone's life so dramatically. Good on you Pinkbike for posting this!
This is pretty cool, but what we really need to help Africa with is to teach them how to keep a sustainable economy and maybe this will help. I like the idea more of us teaching them to fend for themselves rather than fending for them. This seems like a cool project!
If you take a look att the history of sweden, you can clearly see that the bike lead to an end of inbreeding, deficiency diseases and more. The bicycle definitely opens lots of doors and can make a big difrense to poor communities and states, just take a look att your history............
Problem...... i dont have the time to fix afrika, it get in the way of
riding my dh rig and being a dick on PB
I figure every cyclist should get involved with some kind of bike related charity. whether its sending bikes to africa or like local bike co-ops, donations or hands on volunteer work, we should be doin lots more.
Not to undermine the effort... but in the greater scheme of things, maybe the banks should move over there instead, so that when they feel the effects of compound interest on the middle belt countries of Africa, they will hopefully stop... hopefully, probably not, most likely will not.
I don't get Africans, why there is no abundance of old bikes about, like india or china, or old cars like cuba.... there's no little workshops/garages in Africa to keep vehicles of any kind going.... like a whole missing industry to pay for homes, water, school, etc.... I dont get it.
Good project with bad presentation. The chicken farmer will rise the businesses - this is again exporting our mentality and a way of life to another continent.
But yes bikes are good and it's great that bikes can help.
Bikes are truly amazing tools. They can create money and give better education all the way to putting a smile on a 4 year olds face... Best invention yet..
