It's like the designer went "I have a old octane swing arm and my simple cousin/brother made me a front end. He really likes the GT Fury and it shows, but I think it shows how simple he is more lol.."

I have a new term for this kind of design.. Retrotard.

Mountain Cycle is ripping off so many bike companies. It looks like an old Norco Drop and Flatline mixed together. The paint job looks like a Flatline and even there company name Mountain Cycle seems a lot like Rocky Mountain. I know Rocky Mountain may be one of the best bike companies around but you just don't go around copying people like that.

 Mountain Cycle's Design Process:

Hey! Lets design a bike!
Ok! well first, lets make it sound like it's sold in supermarkets, coz loads of people shop there!
Sure! Well next, lets make it as bulky as possible so nobody can miss it!
Sweet! Well now, we just need a finishing touch....
Hmm... I know! Lets use another bottom bracket 'standard' so shimano gets extra business when everyone has to buy new parts to fit!
Awesome! Let's sell it!

 Speshialiced Design Process:

Hey guys so I written up few guidelines for new Dh bikes design
1.must be expensive
2.must bring lots of returns to compensate Sam Hills salary.
3.Must look expensive but be cheap in production.
4.Must be lighter
5.Must be even lighter! Call Rockshox if we can use their new paintjob technology, it's a brilliant price booster idea.
6.1cm lower standover (ok, let's go for 1,5)
7.oh yes Rob new shock mount would be great, Johny's gonna write a marketing essay about new pivot placement.
8.yes Darcy? aa lower the production cost yes
9. John? aa yes let's change 6061 aluminium name from M5 to "M77x ore multiprocessed, 3d forged, no 4D forged!
10. Andy last word is yours: I think that looks like a great bullshit, let's go for it.
11. Sorry Roger I have last thing to say, we can try to talk to MerGida to lower the salaries and increase working hours, same old bullshit you know - we have a crisis and our costs go up. Let's see if emplyoees can accept that. even if they go for that for 1 month, we're up some money. We can also scare them a bit and tell them that if they don't agree we move the production to Nigeria where we get work force for free. And we can start doing stuff from Titanium mines in Kongo and Sierra Leone.

I want to like the Mountain Cycle brand, because back in the day EVERYONE wanted a Mountain Cycle San Andreas. They more or less started off the long travel full suspension bike thing.
But like I said back in the day.

There is nothing in this frame or company to like any more, they have not evolved over the years.

They might have made a decent frame 20 years ago but not today, sorry.

mountain biking doesnt need another pointless 'industry standard'!!!
  • + 2
flag spaced (Apr 15, 2011 at 4:45)
In most cases mountain bikign doesn't need any standard. We need to lower the amount of standard. The only new standards I like is the 142 syntance rear as it stiffens the back end even if your hub mfg is an idiot and the 15mm axle that should kill that silly 9mm idea. The rest of new stanards that became popular in the last 2 years can go to hell.
  • + 3
flag WAKIdesigns (Apr 15, 2011 at 7:02)
ugh... 15mm axle man?! I'd never expect U to say that Big Grin It saves less than 30g over 20mm. Who really needs that apart from Fox and Shimano? On the other hand with a good 9mm hub and light skewers you save round 100g - For an XC fork up to 120 with 160 rotor, 9mm is more than fine. - so who's to go? Smile

I can burn 15mm axles in a pile and sing national songs going around it anytime Big Grin heileee heilouuu heiliii heilooou and then the trumpets go!

  • + 2
flag WAKIdesigns (Apr 15, 2011 at 23:10)
Revelation 20m is 20g heavier than 15mm. Fox went for 15 because they had only 9mm XC/am forks. I'm pretty sure it came originally from Shimano.

 Hey guys...
Here is the scoop on our Praxis M35 BB. It's NOT a new standard....we made this bottom bracket to simply fit in both the BB30 and PF30 frames. The jump to 35mm is more rigid for sure, but for future designs and not just a "we're 5mm more" kind of thing. 35mm happens to be what we feel is the magic size that more manufacturing friendly when it comes to making future spindles out of Ti and Carbon fiber. Also by, putting the bearings outboard the frame, we get more rigidity, don't have to deal with frame/circlip tolerance issues, keep bearings perfectly aligned, and also keeps us on a Shimano spec should someone want to adapt a 24mm Shimano crank if they change cranks down the line.
Have a read. We hope you like it as we're riders like you and just want make great components!

I did try and warn them, they were getting left behind.I wrote on there facebook site a few years ago, saying they cant just live off the MC brand which made them famous all those years ago.Robert Reisinger replied he couldnt have put it better himself. The San Andreas was revolutionary, thats what Robert Reisinger the designer of that bike, brought to the world of downhill mountainbiking,Revolution. He done a good job on the previous shockwaves that were about then to,compared to the halfords looking trek vrx that was about back then. You cant blame MC for trying to keep an important brand alive, they just got caught sleeping in the downhill world. Its a shame cause it should have been them that brought out the GT fury.

I was just talking with a friend last night about mtn cycle. I am wondering why they didn't put a bump stop on this like they did on the old 9.5? Seriously though, its like the took the old linkage and stuff off the old school (and even uglier shockwave) and put it on the front section from an Old KHS Dominatrax, repainted it and are trying to sell it as awesome. Monocoque frames were kind of cool back in the day, but with the advent of hydroformed tubing and CNC benders its kind of yesterdays tech. Not to mention those big hollow spaces resonate like a mofo. Tiny creaks are deafening. I guess the design is dried and true, but innovative and new it is not.
