Safety Recall: Norco Bicycle Frames. Please read!

Norco Bikes has issued a safety recall for a number of their down hill and free ride mountain bike frames from 2007-2009, due to a cracking issue at the headtube. Read on to see if your Norco bike is affected, and what to do about it.Norco has been in the bike business for many years. Recently, Norco has issued a recall of some of the front triangles on their full suspension frames. The recall affects about 3,700 bikes in the U..S alone.

If any of you guys and girls are riding a frame affected by the recall, take it in to your shop and Norco will replace it. I'd hate to see any fellow rider get seriously hurt by this.

Here's the word strait from Norco.

[Quoten]WHY YOU ARE RECEIVING THIS NOTICE:

Norco Performance Bikes, in conjunction with the United States Consumer Products Safety Commission, is conducting a voluntary safety campaign of the above identified bicycle frames. Even though these frames have exceeded the requirements of the world’s most stringent testing standards, Norco has received reports that the head tube areas of these frames can develop cracks in abusive riding conditions. These cracks could cause the head tube to separate from the remainder of the frame, resulting in a fall from the bicycle, an accident and personal injury.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

Immediately check your frame in the areas shown in the photograph above. If you see any evidence of a crack, do not ride your bicycle. Bring your bicycle to Norco dealer to make arrangements for your continued riding. If your frame shows no signs of any cracking, you may continue riding your bicycle. However, you may not perform any jumps or drops greater than 5 feet (1.75 meters) in height. If you perform any jumps or drops, you must use proper riding form, and both wheels must land simultaneously on a transition or down ramp. In addition, you must inspect your frame before every ride to make sure that there is no evidence whatsoever of any crack. Contact your local Norco Dealer to schedule a free front triangle replacement upgrade, whether or not your frame shows any evidence of a crack.

If you have any questions, please contact your local Norco dealer or visit our website at www.norco.com

Thank you for your cooperation.

The recall affects all the sizes and colours of these models. It's important to note that the second production 2009 Atomiks with side and under down tube gussets are NOT affected by the recall. Also, if you have a redesigned frame and there is a “o” stamped after the serial number the frame is not involved in this recall either.

You can find more info on Norco's website. Like I said, take the frame in to your local shop. Even if your frame isn't cracked, I'd still recommend taking it in. We all know we'll get bored if we don't "perform any jumps or drops greater than 5 feet (1.75 meters) in height". We also know that we're not always smooth having both wheels "land simultaneously on a transition or down ramp". If you're riding one of the affected frames, take it in. Because nobody likes a snapped headtube.

Some of you out there might be whining, "Norco sucks, that's why they snap". The way I see it, Norco is doing a good thing by admitting there is a danger with some of their frames and recalling them. They are losing money to keep us riders safe instead of pretending there is no problem and watching us all eat a face full of dirt. For that, I give major props to Norco.

Ride safe.

Good thing my Norco is Old school, thanks for the tip Lettusdude. I didn't know about this until I read this. Hopefully word of mouth will work out for the best of it and keep these kids on their bikes and out of the Hospitals. You save lives Lettusdude, you save lives.

poor old norco, that aint gunna do any good for their sales
  • 9 2
alright so i have a 2007 norco team dh, which is one of the bikes that was listed that MAY have problems. but is it only bikes with the serial #'s listed above that have defaults. or what should i do, take it to my bike shop for them to tell me its fine?
  • 7 0
no, contact your local norco dealer, they would have more info about it, im pressuming that you tell them youve got a bike with the serial number listed above, and vuaalaa, shiny new front triangle
  • 2 0
so if my bike doesnt have a serial number listed above (which it doesnt) i should be fine?
  • 2 0
yes, but id double check with your lbs first as they will have a lot more info than what i do, and if their is a problem they can sort it
  • 9 1
Thanks Norco for looking out for me. I have one of these recalled. Nothing wrong with it but I would not want to take the risk. In my mind this is great. I get a brand new frame! You have to be supper happy about that!
  • 11 1
indeed props to norco for their admission and giving owners a brand new bike, so why would anyone complain!!! lol, nice one norco Smile
  • 30 2
I think KONA could learn from NORCO doing the right thing kona should step up and start recalling all there frames props to norco for steping up and doing this recall Thanks NORCO
  • 2 0
ben- its not a brand new bike, but a new front triangle, is it just if you have a crack, or every single one that falls into the serial number as my mates 08 atomik does, so does he just ring the local dealer and they sort it ?
  • 6 0
good info for buying a used Norco!
  • 4 0
Prop's to norco for doing this. love their bikes.
  • 10 1
So whens the recall coming on Konas?
  • 5 1
All bikes can be broken. No question. Saying norcos are shit isn't anything. 90% of people riding freeride bikesa arent good enough to really care a WHOLe lot about their frame, besides size and looks. I have seen my fair share of broken konas. It has nothing to do with their market share. Other than here in B.C., Kona does NOT have a 10-1 market share. They have spent more money on marketing than quality (not that itd poor). ALL companies are making quality products, and im sure that if you contacted your local dealer of whatever company it is, if the frame or parts broke within the time of the warranty, theyll likely fix it.

Happy riding

go to your local norco dealer and ask to repleace it with specialized or giant Big Grin your troubles will end Razz
  • 1 1
what if you bought a norco second hand and do not have the receipt? do they still honor the replacement?
  • 1 1
As far as I know, yes. Just bring it into a Norco dealer and they'll sort it all out.
  • 2 0
Yes they will. The shop might argue it but just e-mail Norco. I did and they said no problem. With a recall you don't need the receipt. They are protecting themselves from future lawsuits and will not get picky. If you ride one and it breaks you could sue Norco and not need a receipt to do it.
  • 2 0
akozz rofl spesh have had many similar problems before as have rockshox and they act with professionalism and recall there products aswell. why the e-hatred of companies that have the consumers best interests at heart (and sales figures in mind like any company would) when alot of companies do sweet f.a.
  • 1 3
yeah yeah good for Norco blah blah blah

they only pay for the first hour of labour for transfering over parts Thats great...I pay an extra hour worth of labour (at least probably) because they f*cked up. My 2009 Aline has a cracked triangle, so its not just the bikes they have listed.....pretty disappointed in Norco right now, I won't ever but another Norco because they cheap out on the labour after their mistake.
  • 1 1
lol your getting a new frame, and your bitching about an hour of labour you gotta pay out of everything els!!!
  • 1 0
....bike person, I spend $3700 and the thing breaks after 9 days of riding? thats really awesome that I hafta spend more on it, and more upsetting I don't have a bike for an entire week...not to mention the rear dropout where the derailler attaches is stripped, a $90 part that should be a better design for $10.

And its not a new frame, just a front triangle
  • 0 0
I have done a few Norco front triangle swaps in my time and an hour is plenty of time for a skilled mechanic to due this work. If you are being charged for an extra hour on top of the hour paid by Norco you are being hosed, if your local dealer is a Norco shop they should know the build up on these frames inside and out by now because it hasn't really changed much over the years. You should clarify the extra expense to you with your shop.
  • 0 0
well who ever is paying for the extra hour of labour, our noroc dealer have said they will do any parts swaps etc. aqnd it will be copvered under the recall charges. so if their charging you, tell them to do one
  • 11 0
it's really not a big deal. norco frames stand up to some pretty harsh abuse. they're just saying that the frames MAY crack if you abuse the shit out of them over and over and over again. good for them for addressing the issue. every bike cracks and breaks at some point.
  • 8 0
Why all hate? It clearly states in the write up that the frames have passed all safety standards, "Even though these frames have exceeded the requirements of the world’s most stringent testing standards". Yet they are still doing a recall doesn't that say something about Norco as a company?
  • 2 0
Yes, It shows Norco is a quality company. Some people just like shooting their mouths off.
  • 8 0
hit the nail on the head there AAAH. y dont ppl read what it says and not just read the first paragraph. i work in a bike shop and have only ever seen 1 failed norco frame and the guy admited he cased a huge jump, and norco still warrantyed it as a courtesy thing. we get far more other bikes snapping. endles amounts of Scott ransoms, plenty of Crackandfails oops i mean cannondales, konas, specialized and evan the odd orange and marin but only 1 norco, that says something to me. i know what bikes ime sticking to. n e way what are ppl complaining about you get a brand new front end, bike looks mint again.
  • 8 0
Ok, so here's the skinny. I work at a bike shop in Vancouver and I asked my distributor about the recall, the failures occured at the whistler bike park over last year and finishing this year. no other reports of failures in this area so far and all of the failures were on the rental fleet (hence the note on abusive behavior causing the cracks). Also, I talked to Norco today and They are going to start shipping the replacement triangles next week. They will also match in color, geometry, shape, and size. The reason seems to be the rigidity of the steer tube transfering stress to the downtube. The bottomline being that Norco bikes are built to last no matter how bad of a rider you are, but since the worst riders were causing cracks under the roughest riding conditions while being ridden non-stop for a season Norco has voluntarily decided to repair and prevent this from happening in the future. So we can all beat these bikes into the ground without getting hurt. I actually look forward to the new triangle since I ride the 08 A line PE and it'll be nice to know that my bike won't fail even under the absolute worst conditions no matter how bad I ride
  • 1 0
That's good to know cheers Smile and damn! I was hoping for a colour that wouldn't match.haha Razz
  • 1 1
I agree with Easy ... however Norco suggesting the frames failed due to "bad" riders is crazy. What's a bad rider, a guy who plops up on top of the tables too much? ... a rider who over shoots a tranny from time to time? Going too fast, too slow ... thats why we buy these big bikes, to ride the crap out of 'em. The frames are failing due to poor design most likely. Norco is doing the right thing and its all good for all involved. I saw a crash at Whistler last year when a down tube broke, not pretty. I rode a 2008 Park Ed. last year and had zero problems all year, Norco is know for building big tuff bikes and they do, but don't blame the rider.
  • 1 0
Yeah but can you IMAGINE how much abuse the RENTAL fleet went through over the course of the year?? Its no wonder they crack given the number of hours put on those bikes!! .. not to mention the overweight slobs riding them. I think a lot of bikes would have cracked under the same conditions.
  • 1 1
lol true but there are lots of old Kona stabs (stinkys really) still around from Whistler rentals, Rocky Cycle too (and others) no big recall.
Just got back from my bike shop and they say only original owners with receipt will be getting a new triangle ... lots of 2nd owners stuck, quite a mess .
I'm sure some frames will be fine but I would be wondering every time I left the ground.
  • 1 1
You don't need a receipt. The shop is mistaken.
  • 1 0
 well thats good
  • 0 1
I don't recall seeing anywhere where Norco said the frames were failing due to "bad riders".

The frames have a flaw not the riders.
  • 0 0
I think what he is saying is that if you had the capibility of hitting the transition purfectly every time there would be no issue.
  • 17 6
imagine if they hadnt done a recall, coulda become the new kona
  • 3 1
what happened with kona then?? ive just started mountain biking with a kona so please dont tell me it's anything bad??
  • 14 10
Some of them break, and whole bunch of raging retards think that kona sucks now ,because theirs a bunch pic's of them broken online people have to figure this out ALL BIKES BREAK AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER (Konas break more often because they simply because they out number any other bike in the industry 10-1(Besides wal-mart bikes))
  • 18 6
no offense, but I see more broken konas then walmart bikes Razz

Tell me please then, why the headtube on my Stab fell off after 7 months, why my friends Stab cracked too and many many more when other bikes are in one piece after few years. Poor fabrication, thats the reason, and lack of quality.
  • 5 5
Stab is made for racing only. Other than that, my friends multiple Konas have been nothing short of amazing bikes for the money. He goes big and even his coiler comes back begging for more. Sounds like some abused Stabs.

kona's fail end of story, they break so fast and in such lasgre numbers that it is still irelevent to how much they sell, in the pictures thier are OVER ten pages of broken kona's , and the next most is 4 i believe, so in the end kona= fail festSmile
rocky mountian bikes for life
  • 10 1
You just disproved yourself DJ-Fanatic. if Kona has a market share of 10-1 then look at what you just said: Ten or eleven pages of broken Kona's, 4 pages of something else. That to me looks like the others on average have a higher breaking rate if we are going by your standards. Kona's are perfectly fine. It's more likely the riders making any bike snap; and as we all know there are lots of stupid riders who treat their bikes like crap, and don't care enough to maintain them or notice when something isn't right. Stop being so ignorant about bike brands, most bikes are good bikes, its the rider that makes the difference.
  • 2 1
yes but most other bike companies crank, not snap in half , bend like an acordian ect,
  • 2 3
i have ridden my kona stinky 04 for 4 years ging big, my brother(95kg) now rides it ,and my 08 stinky has never failed me!! i have snapped specialized, wheeler, gaints, but never any of my konas or norcos!!
any bike will brake if you dont have the skills for a smooth landing!!
but yeah love rocky mountains!!

 all good mate, lol
  • 3 1
ive been going big on Konas for years and ive never snapped one. bikes snap because of abuse and poor maitenance. i can say this because i manage a bike store that sells kona. it comes down to the rider, if hes a noob and he doesnt know what the f*ck hes doing then hes gonna break shit, if your a competent rider with good skills then your not gonna have a problem. ive seen plenty of other snapped bikes that arent kona. yes there is more konas out there than any other brand, so you are gonna see more broken konas, but if konas are so shit how come there are more konas out there being sold and ridden than any other bike? if they werent a good bike people would not buy them and we'd have more specialized or treks on the trail. i dont hate on any other brand, i just love to ride, i hate all the bullshit that goes along with all this branding crap. who gives a f*ck what you ride, just have fun guys.
  • 1 0
and anyways this article is about snapped Norcos, go figure.
  • 2 2
mate... its about norco's... and kona is a kona... we know the facts from norco about why they are recalling the bikes.... We don't care how good he rider is... the fact is that the frame is going to snap, no matter who is the rider... so unless your going to add something to this convo.. why don't u just bugger off and ride you kona.
  • 2 1
i ride a norco too, but hey take your norco and shove it down under!!
  • 1 1
 that was dirrected at ragdoll...
  • 2 0
hey Larkey1 i wasnt the one who started the whole Kona convo, i just hate it when something like this comes up that doesnt even have anything to do with Kona and people still brand bash Kona. i was mearley putting myside of the arguement across. i say good on Norco for the recall, and the fact they found a fault and they are doing what they need to to fix their problem, good on them, fact of the matter is this article was about Norco not Kona, im just backing a brand that i sell and enjoy.
  • 2 0
ok, i see where your coming from.
  • 0 3
still, Konas and Norcos are shit like. period. and no experienced rider would buy em unless he has very good deal.
  • 1 0
so what bike do you ride then?
  • 0 2
 banshee
  • 6 0
norco have +1 on trek and their coke can session 88, still have to pay crash replacement when their paper bikes dent and bend. props to norco....saying that, a big company like this shouldn't be recalling frames due to a design fault- same thing could be sed about trek. No one is perfect i guess.
  • 5 0
Solid LIght frames.. I've witnessed 08 Shores casing big gaps and not breaking. Just needs a gusset in the affected area. The bike will still be light just stronger. Good on NORCO for fixing the problem. Hope I don't have to wait long to get my new frame. Is it coming by boat from Taiwan? If you have a Shore, I say ride it hard just check it out alot until you get a new one.
  • 6 1
"If your frame shows no signs of any cracking, you may continue riding your bicycle. However, you may not perform any jumps or drops greater than 5 feet (1.75 meters) in height.  Wow, this is gonna be expensive for them. Good thing I've got an 05, ha!

And yeah, props to them for taking care of the problem. Owning up to a mistake and taking care of the customer is the sign of a good company. Others (cough, zoke! cough) could learn a thing or two from Norco.
  • 4 1
Cough, Marzocchi has taken care of their issues at no cost to the customer, cough.
  • 2 1
They took me for $150 and never repaired a fork for me. Turns out it was a design flaw of the TST damper was what was causing my issue. They never acknowledged there was a problem with it and charged me for all the "work" aka taking the fork apart and putting it back together. They're doing better these days but I know many who had similar experiences. If they wanted to make things right with me they're gonna need to replace that fork with something that works. So far they have refused and it's a $600 paperweight...
  • 4 0
this is all good an d all, but i love my white team DH. I love the frame and im afraid with all the recalls will I get the white 07 or will i be forced to get an 08, or hell even a an 09 if all the old replacements have gone. Thats how I received my 07 team frame, I warrantied the 06, they sent me an 07. Props to Norco for the respect and helping us all get down the hill safely.

the new triangle will be the same style and color but with an addition to the steer tube to fix the problem

They said if you have one of the recalled frames on there but it shows no sign of cracking and you still want to ride before you get your frame recalled to only do stuff up to 5 ft... not just to jump 5 ft in general for all there bikes....
  • 4 1
i like norco's older designs like the 2006 bikes ive had an 06 aline since new its a great bike ive slowly replaced every part on it but the frame is still great. I ride it pretty hard putting 40 days a season up at whistler. Overall norco is a good company
  • 0 0
My buddy went through 2 of them, they cracked on the downtube by the shock.
  • 3 0
Haha, actually buddy you can send them in right now even if its been sitting brand new in a box and you'll get a new one pretty quick. The new ones are coming in very soon, and there won't be much of a waiting list theyve ordered alot of each one. So don't be so quick to pipe up till you actually know what youre talking about.
  • 2 2
pipe up? i was expressing an opinion, dick.
i didnt see anything in there that says there going to replace it even if its fine, sorry
  • 3 0
Didn;t they just recall a whole bunch of those same models for cracking at the shock mount as well? I guess the real issue is that bike companies are trying to make stuff lighter all the time and by definition things are getting weaker. I've read online that the Intense Socoms are meant to be raced for 1-2 seasons and then tossed because of frame failure. Is the the bike industry going the same way as the car industry? Are we all gonna be spending 5 grand every 2 years on a new bike because the old one blows up??
  • 0 0
I know the 2006's had an issue with that, my buddy went through 2 frames last year. They sent him one 06 replacement frame, then the second time they sent him an 09 aline. All free of charge. Norco stands behind their frames still, and i'm pretty sure even if it was 5 years old they would replace it of give you a very good discount on a new frame. Make friends with a local dealer and you'll be amazed at what type of strings they can pull.
  • 0 0
Ya, I almost bought a used Team DH here, but decided not to when I saw all the posts about the poor shock mounts. I'm not so sure Norco would warrantee a second hand frame?? In the end I decided to stick with my Chumba F4, it's got a tripple gusseted head tube!!
  • 0 0
They should honor the warranty, it's really up to the bike shop if they will help you or not. I know for any of my customers they do not have their names or addresses for bikes that they purchased. If your riding a Norco and come to my shop, I'm going to help you get what you need to get back on the trail. Pretty sure Norco feels that way to, because regardless if you paid someone else for that Norco, your giving them alot of advertisement everytime you ride.
  • 2 0
I have a 2008 norco A-LINE touch by this recall and norco will remplace my front triangle for a brand new one. It will be a other norco a-line, the same one that I have but just improve. I think is a good reason to buy norco because if something goes wrong, they spend money to be sure that you are in security.
  • 12 8
at least they are manning up to it. thats good to see. but thats why its better to buy handmade bikes. they are may better quality. still props to norco
  • 6 3
Thats a load of crap. Handmade does NOT equal superior.

flag hobbez182 (May 20, 2009 at 22:16) (Below Threshold)
All frames are handmade by someone... And it has nothing to do with human OR machine error!
  • 8 0
If Handmade is better... explain to me how my rear caliper mount broke off my Intense.. and tell me why the guys at On The Edge wont warranty it, when Intense USA said it was a warranty.. sigh.. I'd rather have a Norco than my Intense right now. Least I wouldnt have to deal with the french.
  • 1 0
i have never seen a handmade bike have over 3700 recalls. and thats your bike shops fault for no warranting it. not intense.
  • 0 0
( actually.. On The Edge is the CDN distributor for Intense ) So yes.. it is Intense's fault.. but ur only 19 so I forgive you.
  • 0 0
actually. if intense usa said its a warranty then it should be anywhere. therefore its the bike shop being cheap and lazy
  • 1 0
pushingbroom - did you buy your bike from a cdn dealer? if so then it sucks ote is giving you the runaround. if, however, you bought your bike used or from a US dealer then you're SOL. mailorder or US purchases = no cdn warranty. in that case you'll have to deal w/ the US retailer that sold the bike.
  • 5 0
Anybody can make a mistake, but it is a good thing some people will still admit to it regardless. Well done Norco.
  • 3 0
you may crib about quality but they are doing something about it !, however do you really want to be taking a risk when buying a new bike if your not confident it will last, especialey when shelling out all that money.

I don't own a Norco, nor am I a great fan of Norco but this is excellent customer service. Most companies will not cover abusive riding in the fine print of their warranties. Having worked in a shop, years ago, this is a retailer's dream come true and will garner more brand loyalty. Might have to rethink owning a Norco in the future. Good on ya Norco!

 Well said.

Norco sent this out to all of thier dealers so now we get to contact everyone that bought one of those models
  • 2 1
the old solid weld was better and have your suspension set right for how you ride thats probably not helping if yo have a loose as fuck fork hitting big drops and bottoming out hardcore and if your fork is too stiff riding dh the vibration is going to put some wear on your bike and dont put a super monster t on a small frame with only 7 inches on the rear

Anyone hear anything on the replacement frames? My bike shop told me they haven't been produced yet, and also watch your 2009 Norco Alines, my buddy Randy cracked his in the excact place where the 2009 Atomiks are cracking. He's a bit upset because he had issues with two 2006 aline frames cracking at the shock mounts and now on the warranty frame the 2009 aline cracked on him.

hi, there i own a norco a line park edition 08 and the front triangle needs to be replaced. I just want to know what how much will it cost me because i heard that the parts are free but i is it true that i need to pay for the labour? thanks

The recall program in Ukraine isn`t going anywhere for almost a year. Placed a notice in the local dealers shop last summer (Norco A-Line 2008 ), and since then no progress at all.
Dealers are doing nothing to replace bad frames, and can`t give information on when and how the replace will be accomplished even after the whole year passed since the request.
I`m not alone in this. All Norco users in Ukraine can not replace their frames (with many of them already cracked in places shown in recall documents).

Mailed to Norco about 2 month ago...no answer...
Bravo, NORCO! Keep up the great work!
When my frame cracks, just throw it away like garbage, and by a new one from more relaible brand. Maybe Giant or Specialized.
  • 1 0
Apparently the problem is that the headtube area is too stiff and is transferring the energy to the tubing just past the welds. Unfortunately, that is not where the stress is supposed to be focused. Props to Norco for manning up and taking the heat, I'm glad I didn't find out the hard way. Also, they are just going to replace the front triangle not the whole bike.
  • 2 1
I just got my replacement frame. Not bad considering it's Friday and the recall was only issued on Tuesday. My total down time was about 2 hours, and I got a brand new front triangle out of it.

To all those who are ragging on Norco... When was the last time you got this type of service from any company, in any industry?

There is a severe lack of common sense and basic understanding on these boards. Saying BUY AMERICAN...or...BRAND X DOESN'T HAVE RECALLS makes me realize how many people are talking out their a** on here.

wait I have norco 250 '08 and since I got it it always had a cracking noise somewhere near the headset, I've never checked it properly where the rack sound comes from but the fork+bar has always been a little loose in... I know it's not a full suspension bike but should I check my bike at the nearest dealer?
  • 1 0

  • 1 0
 gleymdi að svara Razz

Þeir þyrftu að gefa þér nýtt stell, þetta gæti verið á hjólum frá 07 sem eru fallin úr ábyrgð og þeir láta þau hjól fá ný stell þannig það hlýtur að vera.

HAHAHA that JUST happened to my atomik, the exact 08 atomik. But im stoked about getting a new frame
  • 1 1
see the thing is norco's frames are being lighter but also risking strength in there fames too. they removed some of the joints and created more stress upwards into the steer tube on the newer models. i could have told you this a year ago when i saw them. there not greatly disigned. there is much better bikes out there that get the better bang for your buck. start looking at veriety.

Should i contact my norco dealer?
  • 5 0
i would. better safe than sorry
No doubt this will start of a trend of little kids on here saying 'norco is shit!'
Its a shame as they have had a good reputation (until they brought out some funky looing new colour ways and curvy tubes imo lol)
  • 0 0
Definitely take it in, it may not be part of the recall but something like that is still warranty and will be replaced.
  • 2 0
agreed with smeckma ^^ its a good thing norco admitted to this rather than puttin there customers at risk. again, nice one norco
  • 1 0
I received the new frame but am I supposed to pay for the other broken parts that broke when the frame broke in 2 pieces under me while I was riding down at full f***ing speed ??
  • 0 0
no, just the front triangle. they wont replace a whole frame due to a recall. this thing makes no sense to me though. we were all confused when we got the notice at the shop.
  • 1 0
Thanks for clarifying - how is that fixed? wouldn't that involve removing the VPS, shocks and everything else and then switching it all over - wow hats off to the shop staff - sounds like a lot of work ahead of them

tell them your grandma bought it for your birthday and she has the receipt, sadly she passed away this winter. start crying, and tell them to fix it.

This is pathetic, NS Bikes did that first, with the Fundamentals for 09 and it was ok, just one bath of rigid forks, but now, bikes made for FREERIDING that cannot be used in a proper way, so sad.
  • 3 0
No, They are saying that because they need to be returned because of a problem, thats whey they have a recall.
  • 2 1
but orange ! hand built in Halifax England, with a life time warrenty ! even though i own a scott that has a big made in Taiwan sticker underneath it so you know it's good !
  • 1 1
What exactly is meant be "free front triangle replacement" - sorry if this is obvious but I'm still new to biking - they don't mean a whole new frame do they?
  • 1 0
the problem is only on the solid front part of the frame... so they just disconnect your rear linkages and connect them to a brand new problem free front section.... norco's website says they will do this for you. basically their only replacing the part that could potentially be a problem no need for a new frame.
  • 2 0
so anything before 07 is good?

CAN SOMEONE ASNWER MY QUESTION PLEASE!!!

so does "Serial#:A70300042 ~ A70300306" mean A70300042 TO A70300306 ?

man, you will have a new triangle what up ???
  • 0 1
yup. Pretty sure. I'm in the same boat.

What the fk? How long will this take to send in and fix? Will it be fixed right away or is it a waiting process (i.e. 1 week to a month)of no bike?
  • 0 1
 ya, how long?
  • 1 2
Go to your local shop right away and get them to register your serial # with Norco. Norco will release the new front triangles to your shop as soon as possible.

First come first serve so the longer you wait the more people will be in front of you.
  • 1 0
Hi, i have 08 Norco A line Park edition on which part of the frame is the serial number? thanks
  • 3 3
Thats a hell of a lot of models o be recalling. I feel sorry for norco, for a smallish company this is not going to do their sales any good.
  • 5 0
 small?...righttt

over here they own half the market. they also are the dist. for MANY parts and supplys
  • 2 0
agreed with sammo norco is in pretty much every city that sells bikes, any one that has a bike from a lbs knows of or has heard of norco, not to mention that have been out for 30ish years
  • 1 0
yes I know what your saying, I didnt mean small in a demeaning way, I meant as in not as big as say specialized or kona. I admire norco for doing this, rather than trying to cover it up like kona did.
  • 1 0
oh ok well i understand you now, but i must disagree on the kona being bigger then norco, kona only sells to one bike store in every city, unlike norco there are 3 or 4 norco dealers in edmonton alone, but will all that said norco gets a lot of my respect because not many companys would do something like this
  • 1 0
ah sorry my bad. Still its very good of norco to do this, it is a lot of models to be recalling and it shows they are being very thorough about this problem, rather than leaving anything un checked.
  • 0 0
 fully agreed
  • 2 4
This seems more than lame to me. Great that's it's a voluntary recall and all that, but I guess they have to otherwise there would be a forced recall anyway with not so great PR. The LAME part is knowing there is a problem and only replacing the frame when a crack has actually started. It is rediculous to limit the drop size to 5ft on bikes like that. If they know there is a manufacturing issue which means the product can not be used as intended then they should replace them all. It isn't acceptable to wait for someone to snap their frame at risk to themselves before the thing actually gets replaced! Irresponsible
  • 1 1
You don't have to wait until a crack shows up to have it replaced. Norco is saying that you can continue to ride your bike if there are no cracks until your replacement triangle arrives at your dealer, just be aware and don't do anything stupid on your bike for now.

Get into your dealer right away whether your frame is cracked or not and get your serial # registered with Norco for a replacement.

Seems pretty simple to me.

My bad, misread it! Thought it was pretty crazy Smile

 BUY AMERICAN. MADE IN TAIWAN.
  • 1 0
Intense is "Hand Made" in Temecula California just a short 3,000 miles from Taiwan. Try the M6 I think you would like it, there are no current recalls.

Good day and happy riding
  • 1 1
Great! Demos are Taiwan, Santa Cruz is Taiwan....Brand X is taiwan. Its not like Intense is dominating the world due to being made in the US. US made bikes mean nothing to me anymore. The M6 is no better than anything else made today in its realm. Sam Hill competes on a Demo at a world cup level. Fionn Griffiths competes at a world cup level on a Norco(taiwan). Sabrina Jonnier wins World Cup races on a Flatine (taiwan). Stop drinking the purple cool aid.

  • 1 1
Transition is just another bike being welded in Taiwan.
  • 1 1
thats funny because , mine was made in washington state buddy
  • 1 1
Really well maybe you check out the website. Production Begins Next we send the file to one of our factories in Taiwan for prototyping or production. We are proud of the fact that all our frames and components are handmade in Taiwan. We visit all of our factories every year to check up on our production and to personally evaluate every factory we use for quality. All the factories use highly skilled labor exactly like the US. There are no sweat shops here and no robot controlled welding. Everything is done to the highest quality standards by hand. So get it right buddy your bike was designed in Washington but made in Taiwan. Don't believe me check the website out yourself. Buddy.
  • 1 2
no mine is a 2005 before their production and growth rate exploded, and you really think a small group of guys can make enough frames for how many people demand/buy a transition frame nowadays they would have to be making just about a frame every 5 seconds i know nobody that can do that. . . i dont know about you, but i dont think i like you.

all your major companys frames are made out of the u.s for the reason being what i just said. dumbass!
  • 1 1
I don't have a problem with Transition or that they are MADE in Taiwan. I actually looked into picking up Transition as a line in my bike shop, but wasn't sure how they rode at the time. Also the reason Transition will not do a recall is because they wont let it out to the general public that they are having an issue with a frame. There is only a one year warranty on the frame, so if you crack it say after two years of riding hard they will say that it was due to abuse and offer you a crash replacement for a discounted price. Norco on the other hand with a 5 year warranty found a problem only with their frames being ridden at whistler and took the precaution of recalling all the frames so their riders will have a safe ride. They know if you buy a Norco you are going big, they are standing behind their name. On other note did you say that yours was a 2005 before they started getting their frames welded in Taiwan, no you didn't. Did I just post a fact that they are welded in Taiwan, yep. So how can you call me a dumbass. Pretty sure you just found out after I posted that they are welded in Taiwan. Good try kid. I'm sure that a lot of other riders will stand behind me when I say there are a bunch of much better frame makers than Transition Bikes out there. Plus if you riding a Transition why the hell are you posting in here. Do you feel speacial or something. See I posted in here because I'm a Norco Dealer, and have owned 4 Norcos.

thats for the pictures... then below that. it states every model affected, plus serials.
  • 1 3
i dont understand what is causing this. is it the weld? or the frame?
  • 1 0
the earliest year on the recall they didnt have a full weld on the headtube they put that triangular shape in there
  • 0 0
I remember I was one of the first to get on the list right about the time of Interbike, and it was postponed because when it was overseas they forgot to weld gussets onto the bikes. I wonder if the Taiwanese forgot something else.
  • 5 1
What do you get, good customer service, a company who cares about its riders enough to admit a mistake and try to help them out free of charge.
