Blick's OC Dirt Report-Those Fires were Close!

Nov 1, 2007

The smoke and ashes have finally settled…..this time last week, it was sketchy …but now it back to normal.

Our Dirt lab out back…AKA Whiting Ranch & the Luge are toast…they both look like they had a massive haircut. The good news is that everyone I know is ok and have their homes and families intact. I rode Laguna on Monday and it is good to go.

I was riding this evening and ran into the Park Rangers over at Whiting Ranch and they say there are still some active fires within the park and if all goes well the park will be back open in around 3 weeks.

One thing to keep in mind.... as much as it sounds good, EVERYONE needs to stay ONLY on existing OPEN trails. Rangers have clearance to shoot to kill [or at the very least give anyone a ticket with heavy fines].

Whiting does NOT need anymore trails, the existing ones are fine and just need to be cleaned up. In the future, there will be some trail cleanup days to buff the park back out to what it once was.

Hopefully we will have another under average rainfall at least for the near future to avoid any mudslide activity.

Keep it fun!

Neither Steve nor Oakley owns Whiting Ranch but he is doing his best to keep other riders from entering the park during the next several weeks. I for one appreciate his effort in spreading the word and keeping your fellow riders safe.

I heard today on the Daily Show that "there are reports of Al-Qaeda planning to attack the US, by setting fires" also fox news reports...."this is just another demonstration how global warming is effecting us". Man they need some better News reporting in the states. I

People, Pleeeeeezzzzzz, when they open Whiting back up stay on the existing trails and don't get us locked out cuz the Rangers will kik us all if everyone isn't cool. And that goes mainly for hikerz cuz they are off trail (photoing and such) more than bikers.
