The Pan-American Champs DH in Colombia are just getting rolling and here is a quick look at the track and what some of the riders are sayin..
The UCI commissaries did the usual track check and they were very satisfied with track conditions and terrain that is being used for this important race. They also said that the 4X is amazing, it looks like a World Cup Course.
It's a long and very hard racetrack, divided in tree sections. First, up in the hill a very fast section with lots of short jumps, roots, very steep terrain and pretty awesome turns inside a beautiful forest full of South American Vegetation.
At the middle a very flat and hard pedaling section. All riders suffer and pedal like crazy to get to each jump that comes one after another.
The last section is very difficult, right after the pedaling the tired riders will find more jumps, this time a little bigger than the first ones, the track has a couple of wood bridges, woops, natural drops, rock gardens, more roots, and a big truck ramp receiver from a big last jump located just at the end of the track.
The DH track was built by the famous TACKY BROSS from the town Zipaquira (Oscar and Alejandro Rodriguez). Two brothers who built the tracks for the local competitions by hand, and now they had the opportunity to show everything they know, and they didn't disappoint anybody. Tobias Lozano helped them with the design, and Built the 4X that we can see in the pictures.
Some impressions about the DH course
Pretty amazing track, very long, steep and fast. The woods turns are fantastic and after that, killer pedaling the drops and rock gardens make it a huge track. - Juan Pedro Illiescas (Peru) Junior
Well it's a very nice track, very fast and has a big jumps a lots of pedaling. I like it a lot. I hope to do a nice race because is very fun. - Javier Medina (Guatemala) Pro
Track is quite physical, not that steep and technical, but at the end it is really fun and has some sick sections. - Camilo Sanchez (Colombia) Pro
Sick track, very fast and physical, it's the kind of track you really enjoy when you ride it, thanks to the Tacky Bross, and all the Colombians, very nice people. - Ethan Quehl (USA) Pro
Kyle Thomas is hooking me up with 15 keys of powder while he's down there. If anyone's interested, it's prime white delicious. I'll post in the Buy and Sell under Lifestyle.
Looks like South Americans incorporate a lot more freeride into their DH. Consider the urban dh from a few weeks ago. It's not totally freeride focused, but it had a lot of big drops compared to what I'm used to seeing in North America.
Go Markolf!!!!!!!!!!!
